37:1  By those aligned, lined up in ranks.
37:2  Then by the propellers propelling firmly.
37:3  Then by the readers of a Reminder—
37:4  indeed, yourpl God is surely One,
37:5  Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, and Lord of the Easts.
37:6  Indeed, We have adorned the lowest heaven with an adornment, the planets,
37:7  and as a protection against every defiant devil.
37:8  They cannot eavesdrop on the Higher Assembly, for they get bombarded from every side—
37:9  repelled, and they will have an unremitting punishment,
37:10  except for one who snatched a fragment and was then pursued by a piercing meteor.
37:11  So inquiresg of them, “Are they more difficult to create, or the others We created?” Indeed, We created them from sticky clay.
37:12  Rather, yousg were amazed, while they ridicule.
37:13  And when reminded, they remember not.
37:14  And when they see a sign, they exaggerate in ridiculing
37:15  and say, “This is nothing but evident sorcery.
37:16  Can it be that when we have died and become dust and bones, can it be that we will really be resurrected?
37:17  And our ancient forefathers?”
37:18  Saysg, “Yes indeed, and you will be totally subdued.”
37:19  It is but a single nudge, and there they are looking on (in bewilderment)!
37:20  And they said, “Woe to us! This is the Day of Recompense.”
37:21  “This is the Day of Decision which youpl used to deny.
37:22  Herdpl those who were unjust and their spouses, and what they used to worship
37:23  apart from Allah, and guide them to the path to purgatory.
37:24  And stop them—indeed, they are to be questioned.”
37:25  “What is the matter with youpl that you do not help one another?”
37:26  Rather, on this day, they are submissive.
37:27  And they came to one another, asking one another.
37:28  They said, “Indeed, youpl used to come at us from the right”
37:29  They said, “Rather, youpl yourselves were not believers,
37:30  and we had no authority over you; rather, you yourselves were a people who exceeded all limits.
37:31  And therefore we deserved our Lord’s decree on us. Most surely we will all get a taste,
37:32  for we deluded youpl; indeed, we were deluded.”
37:33  So on that day, they are indeed partners in the punishment.
37:34  This is what We do with the criminals.
37:35  Indeed, when it was said to them, “There is no god except Allah,” they would act arrogantly
37:36  and say, “Are we really to abandon our gods for a mad poet?”
37:37  In fact, he came with the truth, and he confirmed the emissaries.
37:38  Most surely, youpl will taste the painful punishment,
37:39  and in no way will you be repaid except for what you used to do,
37:40  except for Allah’s sincere chosen servants.
37:41  For those, there is a known provision:
37:42  fruits, and they are honored
37:43  in the Gardens of Bliss,
37:44  on couches facing one another.
37:45  A drink is passed round among them from a flowing spring:
37:46  white, a delight to those who drink,
37:47  no headiness in it, nor by it are they drained.
37:48  And with them are bashful maidens with lovely eyes,
37:49  as if they were closely guarded eggs.
37:50  So they came to one another, asking one another.
37:51  One of them said, “Indeed, I did have a comrade
37:52  who would say, ‘Can it be that yousg are really of those who believe?
37:53  Can it be that when we have died and become dust and bones, can it be that we will really be called to account?’ ”
37:54  He said (to his companions in Paradise), “Can youpl view (him)?”
37:55  Then he viewed (him) and saw him in the midst of purgatory.
37:56  He said, “(I swear) by Allah, yousg almost ruined me.
37:57  And were it not for the blessing of my Lord, I would have been of the arraigned.”
37:58  “Are we (then) not to die
37:59  except for our first death? And are we never to be punished?”
37:60  It is most surely this which is the great triumph.
37:61  For the like of this let the workers work.
37:62  Is this a better hospitality or the Tree of Zaqqum?
37:63  Indeed, We have made it a means of trial for the unjust.
37:64  Indeed, it is a tree that comes out from the very origin of purgatory.
37:65  Its yield is as if it were devils’ heads.
37:66  So they are sure to eat from it and fill their bellies with it.
37:67  Then, on top of it, they will have a brew of scalding water.
37:68  Then their return is sure to be to purgatory.
37:69  Indeed, they found their forefathers astray,
37:70  so they rush along in their footsteps.
37:71  And certainly, most of the ancients before them went astray.
37:72  And certainly, We sent among them forewarners.
37:73  So looksg at what the outcome was for those who were warned,
37:74  except for Allah's sincere chosen servants.
37:75  And certainly, Noah called out to Us, so the very excellent of responders are We!
37:76  Thus We delivered him and his family from the great calamity,
37:77  and We made his offspring the sole survivors,
37:78  and We left him thus to be remembered among later generations.
37:79  Peace be upon Noah among (all creatures of) all realms.
37:80  Indeed, thus do We repay those who excel in doing good.
37:81  Indeed, he is one of Our believing servants.
37:82  Then We drowned the others.
37:83  And, indeed, of his kind is Abraham.
37:84  Recall when he came to his Lord with a sound heart.
37:85  He said to his father and his people, “What are you worshiping?
37:86  Is it false gods, instead of Allah, that youpl want?
37:87  So what is yourpl opinion about the Lord of all realms?”
37:88  Then he took one look at the stars
37:89  and said, “I am sick.”
37:90  So they turned away from him, fleeing,
37:91  whereupon he turned to their gods and said, “Will youpl not eat?
37:92  What is it with youpl? Do you not speak?”
37:93  Then he turned on them, striking with his right hand.
37:94  So they came towards him, dashing.
37:95  He said, “Do you worship what you carve,
37:96  when Allah has created youpl and all that you do?”
37:97  They said, “Build a structure for him and throw him into purgatory.”
37:98  So they desired to plot against him, but We made them the lowest.
37:99  And then he said, “I am going to my Lord—He will guide me.”
37:100  “My Lord, give me one of the righteous.”
37:101  So We gave him glad tidings of a forbearing boy.
37:102  Then, when he was old enough to accompany him, he said, “O my child, I see in a dream that I am sacrificing you, so look—what do you see?” He said, “O my father, do as you are commanded; you will find me, Allah willing, of the patient ones.”
37:103  Then, when theydl had submitted and he laid him down on his forehead,
37:104  We then called out to him, “O Abraham!
37:105  Yousg have truly fulfilled the vision.” Thus indeed do We repay those who excel in doing good.
37:106  Indeed, this was certainly the evident test.
37:107  And We redeemed him with a great sacrifice,
37:108  and We left him thus to be remembered among later generations:
37:109  Peace be upon Abraham.
37:110  Thus We repay those who excel in doing good.
37:111  Indeed, he is one of Our believing servants.
37:112  And We gave him glad tidings of Isaac, a prophet, one of the righteous.
37:113  And We blessed him and Isaac. But of their offspring is one who excels in doing good and one who is evidently unjust to himself.
37:114  And We certainly conferred Our favor upon Moses and Aaron,
37:115  and We delivered themdl and their people from the great calamity.
37:116  And We supported thempl, so they were the overcomers.
37:117  And We gave themdl the evidential Scripture,
37:118  and We guided themdl upon the straight path.
37:119  And We left themdl thus to be remembered among later generations:
37:120  Peace be upon Moses and Aaron.
37:121  Thus do We repay those who excel in doing good.
37:122  Indeed, they are of Our believing servants.
37:123  And Elijah is indeed one of the emissaries.
37:124  Recall when he said to his people, “Will you not be mindful (of God)?
37:125  Do youpl call upon Baal and leave the best of creators—
37:126  Allah, your Lord and the Lord of your ancient fathers?”
37:127  But they disbelieved him, and thus they will certainly be arraigned,
37:128  except for Allah’s sincere chosen servants.
37:129  And We left him thus to be remembered among later generations:
37:130  Peace be upon Elijah.
37:131  Thus do We repay those who excel in doing good.
37:132  Indeed, he is one of Our believing servants.
37:133  And Lot is indeed one of the emissaries.
37:134  Recall when We delivered him and all of his family,
37:135  except for an old woman who lingered behind.
37:136  Then We annihilated the others.
37:137  And most surely youpl pass by them in the morning
37:138  and at night. Do you not reason?
37:139  And Jonah is indeed one of the emissaries.
37:140  Recall when he fled to the overloaded ship,
37:141  and he drew lots and was of those who lost.
37:142  Then the whale took him into its mouth, and he was to blame.
37:143  And had he not been one of those who highly exalt God,
37:144  he would have stayed in its belly until the day they are resurrected.
37:145  Then We threw him into the wilderness while he was sick,
37:146  and We germinated a gourd tree over him.
37:147  Then We sent him to a hundred thousand or more.
37:148  And they attained faith, so We gave them enjoyment for some time.
37:149  So inquiresg of them, “Are the daughters for yoursg Lord while for them are the sons?”
37:150  Or did We create the angels as females while they witnessed?”
37:151  Undoubtedly, it is out of their utter falsehood that they do indeed say,
37:152  “Allah has begotten.” But they are most surely liars.
37:153  Has He selected daughters over sons?
37:154  What is it with youpl? How do you judge?
37:155  Will you not remind yourselves?
37:156  Or do youpl have an evident manifestation?
37:157  Then bring yourpl scripture, if you have been truthful.
37:158  And they invented a relationship between Him and (the race of) unseen beings. And certainly, (the race of) unseen beings knew that they (who made the claims) would surely be arraigned—
37:159  Highly Exalted is Allah far above what they describe—
37:160  except for Allah’s sincere chosen servants.
37:161  Thus surely, youpl and what you worship
37:162  can never seduce (anyone) away from Him,
37:163  except for one who is to roast in purgatory.
37:164  “And there is not one of us but has an assigned position.
37:165  And we are indeed the aligned.
37:166  And we are indeed those who exalt God.”
37:167  Even though they used to say,
37:168  “Had we received a Reminder from the ancients,
37:169  we would have been Allah's sincere chosen servants.”
37:170  But they denied it, so they will find out.
37:171  And most surely Our Word has already gone out to our servant emissaries:
37:172  indeed, it is they who shall surely be supported,
37:173  and indeed it is Our soldiers who shall surely be the overcomers.
37:174  So turnsg away from them for some time,
37:175  and watch them—for they will soon see.
37:176  Do they seek to hasten Our punishment?
37:177  Yet, when it descends into their courtyard, miserable shall be the morning of those forewarned.
37:178  And turnsg away from them for a while,
37:179  and watch—they will soon see.
37:180  Highly Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of Might, far above what they describe.
37:181  And peace be upon the emissaries.
37:182  And all praise be to Allah, Lord of all realms.
