26:2
Those are the signs of the Evident Scripture.
26:3
Perhaps you
sg are going to destroy yourself with sorrow because they do not believe?
26:4
If We will, We can bestow upon them a sign from heaven, at which their necks would stay bent in humility.
26:5
But no fresh reminder comes to them from the All-Merciful but they disregard it.
26:6
Thus they have certainly disbelieved, but soon will come to them the tidings of what they used to ridicule.
26:7
Have they not seen the land— how many noble kinds of plants We have germinated therein?
26:8
Indeed, in that is a sign, and in no way were most of them believers.
26:9
And indeed, it is your
sg Lord who is surely the Almighty, the Bestower of mercy.
26:10
And recall when Your Lord called to Moses, “Go to the unjust people—
26:11
the people of Pharaoh. Will they never be mindful?”
26:12
He said, “My Lord, I fear that they will disbelieve me.
26:13
And my chest tightens and my tongue is not fluent, so send for Aaron
(too).
26:14
And they hold
(a charge of) a misdeed against me, so I fear they will kill me.”
26:15
He said, “By no means! So go
dl, with Our signs; We are with you
pl, listening.
26:16
So go
dl to Pharaoh and say, ‘We are indeed the Messenger of the Lord of all realms:
26:17
send the Children of Israel with us.’”
26:18
He said, “Did we not raise you
sg among us as a child, and you stayed among us for many years of your life?
26:19
And you
sg committed that base deed of yours that you committed while you were one of the deniers.”
26:20
He said, “I did it then while I was one of those astray.
26:21
And I fled from you
pl when I feared you, then my Lord gave me wise judgment and made me one of the emissaries.
26:22
And is that a favor you
sg remind me of: that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?”
26:23
Pharaoh said, “And what is the Lord of all realms?”
26:24
He said, “The Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, if you
pl (can ever) believe with certitude.”
26:25
He said to those around him, “Are you listening?”
26:26
He said, “Your
pl Lord and the Lord of your ancient fathers.”
26:27
He said, “This messenger of yours who has been sent to you is certainly a madman.”
26:28
He said, “The Lord of the east and the west and whatever is between them, if you
pl can
(ever) reason.”
26:29
He said, “If you
sg accept any god other than me, I will surely make you of the imprisoned.”
26:30
He said, “What if I bring you
sg something evident?”
26:31
He said, “Bring it, if you
sg are of the truthful.”
26:32
So he cast his staff and thereupon it was an evident serpent.
26:33
And he pulled his hand and thereupon it was white for the beholders.
26:34
He said to the chiefs around him, “This is indeed a knowledgeable sorcerer
26:35
who wants to evict you from your land with his sorcery, so what do you command?”
26:36
They said, “
Put him off, and his brother, and send summoners to the cities
26:37
to bring you
sg every knowledgeable magician.”
26:38
So the sorcerers were assembled for the appointment on a specified day.
26:39
And people were told, “Are you going to assemble,
26:40
that we may follow the sorcerers if they are the overcomers?”
26:41
So when the sorcerers arrived, they said to Pharaoh, “Is there a reward for us if we are the overcomers?”
26:42
He said, “Yes, and you will then most surely become of those brought near
(to me).”
26:43
Moses said to them, “Cast whatever you intend to cast.”
26:44
So they cast their ropes and their staffs and said, “By Pharaoh's might, we are most surely the overcomers.”
26:45
Then Moses threw his staff, and thereupon it swallowed what they had fabricated.
26:46
So the sorcerers fell down prostrating.
26:47
They said, “We have attained faith in the Lord of all realms,
26:48
the Lord of Moses and Aaron.”
26:49
He said, “Have you
pl believed in him before I have given you permission? He must be your leader who taught you sorcery. Well, you will certainly know soon; I will most surely cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, and I will most surely crucify you all.”
26:50
They said, “No problem; indeed, to our Lord we are returning.
26:51
We ardently hope our Lord will forgive us our offenses, as we were the first of the believers.”
26:52
And We revealed to Moses: “Journey with My servants by night; you
pl will indeed be followed.”
26:53
So Pharaoh sent summoners to the cities.
26:54
“Indeed, these are just a small gang,
26:55
and they certainly do enrage us.
26:56
But indeed, we are cautious.”
26:57
So We got them out from gardens and springs
26:58
and treasures and a noble domicile.
26:59
So it was. And We made the Children of Israel inherit them.
26:60
And they pursued them at sunrise.
26:61
And when the two groups sighted each other, the followers of Moses said, “We are indeed overtaken!”
26:62
He said, “By no means! My Lord is indeed with me; He will guide me.”
26:63
So We revealed to Moses: “Strike the sea with your staff,” whereupon it split, so that each part was like a great hill.
26:64
And thereupon, we brought the others near.
26:65
Then We saved Moses and those with him, all of them.
26:66
Then We drowned the others.
26:67
Most surely in that is a sign, and in no way were most of them believers.
26:68
And most surely, your
sg Lord is the Almighty, the Bestower of mercy.
26:69
And relate to them the tiding of Abraham,
26:70
when he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?”
26:71
They said, “We worship human-shaped idols and we remain consecrating ourselves to them.”
26:72
He said, “Can they hear you
pl when you call?
26:73
Or can they benefit you, or can they do harm?”
26:74
They said, “Rather, we found our forefathers doing so.”
26:75
He said, “Have you seen what you have been worshiping,
26:76
you and your ancient fathers?
26:77
They are enemies to me, except for the Lord of all realms,
26:78
Who created me and therefore He guides me;
26:79
and Who feeds me and gives me to drink;
26:80
and when I get sick, He heals me;
26:81
and Who makes me die and then revives me;
26:82
and Whom I ardently hope will forgive me my offense on the Day of Recompense.”
26:83
“My Lord, grant me wise judgment and include me with the righteous,
26:84
and make me a reputation of truth among later generations,
26:85
and make me of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss,
26:86
and forgive my father—he was indeed one of those astray,
26:87
and do not disgrace me on the day they are resurrected:
26:88
the day when neither wealth nor children are of help—
26:89
except for one who has come to Allah with a sound heart.”
26:90
And the Garden
(of Paradise) was brought near for those who had been mindful,
26:91
while purgatory was displayed to the deluded ones.
26:92
And they were told, “Where is what you used to worship
26:93
apart from Allah? Can they support you or get support for themselves?”
26:94
Then they were toppled into it, together with the deluded ones
26:95
and the troops of Iblis, all of them.
26:96
They said, as they disputed about it,
26:97
“(We swear) by Allah, we were surely in evident misguidance
26:98
for equating you
pl with the Lord of all realms.
26:99
But no one misguided us except the criminals.
26:100
And now we neither have intercessors
26:101
nor any intimate friend.
26:102
So if only we could have another chance, we would be of the believers.”
26:103
Most surely in that is a sign, and in no way were most of them believers.
26:104
And most surely, your
sg Lord is the Almighty, the Bestower of mercy.
26:105
The people of Noah disbelieved the emissaries
26:106
when their brother Noah said to them, “Will you never be mindful?
26:107
Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.
26:108
So be mindful of Allah and obey me.
26:109
And I ask of you no reward for this, for my reward is only from the Lord of all realms.
26:110
So be mindful of Allah and obey me.”
26:111
They said, “Shall we believe in you, when
(only) the lowliest have followed you?”
26:112
He said, “What do I know about what they used to do?
26:113
Their reckoning rests only with my Lord, if only you were aware.
26:114
And in no way would I expel the believers;
26:115
I am only an evident warner.”
26:116
They said, “If you do not refrain, O Noah, you will most surely be of those stoned.”
26:117
He said, “My Lord, my people have disbelieved me.
26:118
So legislate between me and them decisively, and deliver me and those who are with me of the believers.
26:119
So We saved him and those with him in the laden ship.
26:120
Then We drowned the rest.
26:121
Most surely in that is a sign, and in no way were most of them believers.
26:122
And most surely, your
sg Lord is the Almighty, the Bestower of mercy.
26:123
Ād disbelieved the emissaries
26:124
when their brother Hûd said to them, “Will you never be mindful?
26:125
Indeed, I am to you
pl a trustworthy messenger.
26:126
So be mindful of Allah and obey me.
26:127
And I ask of you no reward for this, for my reward is only from the Lord of all realms.
26:128
Do you build a sign on every height for vanity's sake?
26:129
And you set up fortresses, hoping to live eternally?
26:130
And when you
pl strike, you strike mercilessly?
26:131
So be mindful of Allah and obey me.
26:132
And be mindful of the One who supplied you with whatever you know.
26:133
He supplied you with livestock and children
26:134
and gardens and springs.
26:135
Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a great day.”
26:136
They said, "It is equal to us, whether you admonish or be not of those who admonish.
26:137
This is nothing but the character of the ancients,
26:138
and we will never be punished.”
26:139
So they disbelieved him; thus We annihilated them. Most surely in that is a sign, and in no way were most of them believers.
26:140
And most surely, Your
sg Lord is the Almighty, the Bestower of mercy.
26:141
Thamûd disbelieved the emissaries
26:142
when their brother Salih said to them, “Will you never be mindful?
26:143
Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.
26:144
So be mindful of Allah and obey me.
26:145
And I ask of you no reward for this, for my reward is only from the Lord of all realms.
26:146
Will you
(always) be left secure in whatever is here?
26:148
and
vegetation (s), and palm-trees with tender yield?
26:149
And you carve houses in the mountains, with skill?
26:150
So be mindful of Allah and obey me.
26:151
And do not obey the command of the extremists:
26:152
those who spread corruption in the land and do not reform.”
26:153
They said, “You are surely one of the bewitched;
26:154
you are nothing but a human being like us, so bring us a sign if you are of the truthful.”
26:155
He said, “This is a she-camel; she has her turn to drink, and you have your turn to drink on a well-known day.
26:156
And do not touch her with any harm, lest the punishment of a great day seize you.”
26:157
But they hamstrung her, then became remorseful.
26:158
So the punishment seized them. Most surely in that is a sign, and in no way were most of them believers.
26:159
And most surely, your
sg Lord is the Almighty, the Bestower of mercy.
26:160
The people of Lot disbelieved the emissaries
26:161
when their brother Lot said to them, “Will you never be mindful?
26:162
Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.
26:163
So be mindful of Allah and obey me.
26:164
And I ask of you no reward for this, for my reward is only from the Lord of all realms.
26:165
Of all the creatures in all realms, do you
pl approach males?
26:166
And you leave what your Lord has created for you of spouses? Rather, you are a people who have transgressed.”
26:167
They said, “Unless you refrain, O Lot, you will most surely be of those evicted.”
26:168
He said, “I am certainly one of those who abhor your practice.”
26:169
“My Lord, deliver me and my family from what they practice.”
26:170
So We delivered him and his family, all of them,
26:171
except for an old woman among those who lingered behind.
26:172
Then We destroyed the others.
26:173
And We rained down upon them a rain, so how bad was the rain of those forewarned!
26:174
Most surely in that is a sign, and in no way were most of them believers.
26:175
And most surely, your
sg Lord is the Almighty, the Bestower of mercy.
26:176
The Fellows of the Thicket disbelieved the emissaries
26:177
when Shu’aib said to them, “Will you never be mindful?
26:178
Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger.
26:179
So be mindful of Allah and obey me.
26:180
And I ask of you no reward for this, for my reward is only from the Lord of all realms.
26:181
Give full measure and do not be of the cheaters,
26:182
and weigh with accurate scales
26:183
and do not defraud people of their belongings, and do not go wickedly about the land, corrupting it.
26:184
And be mindful of the One Who created you
pl and the masses of old.”
26:185
They said, “You are surely one of the bewitched.
26:186
And you are nothing but a human being like us, and we think that you are surely of the liars.
26:187
So make pieces from heaven fall on us, if you are of the truthful.”
26:188
He said, “My Lord knows better what you do.”
26:189
But they disbelieved him, so the punishment of the Day of Gloom seized them; it was indeed the punishment of a great day.
26:190
Most surely in that is a sign, and in no way were most of them believers.
26:191
And most surely, your
sg Lord is the Almighty, the Bestower of mercy.
26:192
And most surely, it is a bestowal from on high from the Lord of all realms.
26:193
The Trustworthy Spirit came down with it
26:194
upon your
sg heart, that you may be of the forewarners,
26:195
in an evident Arabic tongue.
26:196
And it is in the books of the ancients.
26:197
Is it not a sign for them that the scholars of the Children of Israel recognized it?
26:198
And had We bestowed it from on high upon some non-Arabs
26:199
and he had recited it to them, they would still not have believed in it.
26:200
Thus We inserted it into the hearts of the criminals.
26:201
They will not believe in it until they witness the painful punishment
26:202
which will come to them suddenly while they are unaware.
26:203
Then they will say, “Will we be reprieved?”
26:204
So do they seek to hasten Our punishment?
26:205
So have you
sg seen if We let them enjoy
(life) for
(many) years,
26:206
then there comes to them what they were promised,
26:207
of what avail to them will their past enjoyments be?
26:208
And never did We destroy a town but it had forewarners—
26:209
a reminding, and in no way have We been unjust.
26:210
And in no way have the devils been descending with it,
26:211
for it neither suits them nor is it in their power.
26:212
They are indeed barred from hearing
(it).
26:213
So do not call upon any other god with Allah, lest you
sg be of those punished.
26:214
And warn your
sg kinsfolk,
26:215
and lower your wing for those of the believers who have followed you.
26:216
But if they disobey you, say, “I am indeed innocent of what you do.”
26:217
And place your trust in the Almighty, the Bestower of mercy,
26:218
Who sees you when you rise,
26:219
as well as your movement among those who prostrate;
26:220
indeed, He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
26:221
Shall I inform you
pl upon whom the devils keep descending?
26:222
They keep descending upon every sinful fabricator.
26:223
They give ear, and most of them are liars.
26:224
And as for the poets—the deluded ones follow them.
26:225
Have you
sg not seen that they aimlessly roam in every valley?
26:226
And that they say what they do not do?
26:227
Except for those who attained faith and did righteous deeds and remembered Allah frequently and defended themselves after they had been dealt with unjustly. And those who have been unjust will know the place of return to which they are bound to return.
