40:2
The revelation of the Book is from God, the Mighty, the Knowing,
40:3
The forgiver of sin, and the accepter of repentance, severe in punishment, the possessor of bounty. There is no god but He. To Him is the destination.
40:4
None dispute concerning the signs of God except those who disbelieved, so let not their going to and fro in the lands deceive you.
40:5
The people of Noah denied before them and the parties after them; and every nation purposed against their messenger, to seize him. And they disputed with falsehood to rebut the truth with it, then I seized them, and how was My punishment?
40:6
And thus the word of your Lord was due against those who disbelieved, that they are the fellows of the fire.
40:7
Those who bear the throne and who are around it glorify with the praise of their Lord, and they believe in Him, and they seek forgiveness for those who believed: 'Our Lord! You have included everything in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who have repented and followed Your way, and guard them from the punishment of Hellfire.
40:8
Our Lord! And make them enter gardens of Eden which You have promised them and whoever was righteous among their fathers and their spouses and their offspring; indeed You, You are the Mighty, the Wise.
40:9
And guard them from evil deeds, and whoever you guard from evil deeds on that day, then certainly, you have had compassion on him, and that, it is the great success.'
40:10
Indeed, those who disbelieved will be called to, 'Surely, the hatred of God is greater than your hatred of yourselves when you were called to the faith and you disbelieved.'
40:11
They will say, 'Our Lord! You have caused us to die twice, and you have given us life twice; and we have confessed our sins. Is there then a way to go out?'
40:12
That is because when God alone was called on, you disbelieved; and if partners were associated with Him, you believed; and the judgment is for God, the High, the Great.
40:13
He is the one who shows you His signs, and sends down provision to you from the heaven; and none remember except whoever repents;
40:14
So call on God, sincere to Him in the religion, even though the disbelievers are averse.
40:15
Exalted in degrees, the possessor of the throne. He throws the spirit of His command on whom He wills of His servants, to warn of the Day of Meeting.
40:16
On the day they come forth, nothing of them will be hidden from God. For whom is the kingdom today? For God, the One, the Subduer.
40:17
Today every soul will be recompensed for what it earned. No injustice today; indeed, God is swift in the reckoning.
40:18
And warn them of the Approaching Day, when the hearts are at the throats, repressed; for the wrongdoers there is no warm friend and no intercessor to be obeyed.
40:19
He knows the treachery of the eyes and what the breasts conceal.
40:20
And God decides with the truth; and those who they call on besides Him do not decide with anything; indeed, God, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
40:21
And did they not travel in the earth and see how the end of those who were before them was? They, they were stronger than them in strength and traces in the earth; and God seized them for their sins, and there was no guardian for them against God.
40:22
That is because their messengers used to come to them with the clear proofs, then they disbelieved, so God seized them; indeed, He is strong, severe in punishment.
40:23
And surely, certainly We sent Moses with Our signs, and clear authority,
40:24
To Pharaoh and Haman and Korah, then they said, 'A magician, a liar.'
40:25
And when he came to them with the truth from Us, they said, 'Kill the sons of those who believed with him, and let their women live.' And the plot of the disbelievers is not except in error.
40:26
And Pharaoh said, 'Leave me to kill Moses; and let him call on his Lord. Indeed I, I fear that he may change your religion or that he may make corruption appear in the earth.'
40:27
And Moses said, 'Indeed I, I seek refuge with my Lord and your Lord from every proud one who does not believe in the Day of Reckoning.'
40:28
And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh concealing his faith said, 'Will you kill a man that he says, "My Lord is God," and certainly he came to you with the clear proofs from your Lord? And if he is a liar, then upon him is his lie; and if he is truthful, there will befall you some of that which he threatens you with; indeed, God does not guide he who is an extravagant liar.
40:29
O my people! The kingdom is for you today, overcomers in the earth, and who will help us against the punishment of God, if it comes to us?' Pharaoh said, 'I show you not except what I see, and I guide you not except to the way of right direction.'
40:30
And the one who believed said, 'O my people! Indeed, I fear for you the like of the day of the parties,
40:31
The like of the case of the people of Noah and 'Ad and Thamud and those who were after them; and God does not desire injustice for the servants.
40:32
And O my people! Indeed I, I fear for you the Day of Calling Out,
40:33
A day you will turn back, retreating; there is no protector for you against God; and whoever God causes to go astray, then there is no guide for him.
40:34
And surely, certainly Joseph came to you before with the clear proofs, then you ceased not to be in doubt of what he came to you with, until when he died, you said, "God will not send a messenger after him;" Thus God causes he who is an extravagant doubter to go astray.'
40:35
Those who dispute concerning the signs of God without authority coming to them, it is greatly hateful with God and with those who believed; thus God sets a seal upon every heart of a proud tyrant.
40:36
And Pharaoh said, 'O Haman! Build for me a tower, perhaps I may reach the ropes,
40:37
The ropes of the heavens, so that I may look at the god of Moses; and indeed I, I surely think him a liar.' And thus the evil of his deed was beautified for Pharaoh, and he was hindered from the way; and the plot of Pharaoh was not except in ruin.
40:38
And the one who believed said, 'O my people! Follow me, I will guide you to the way of the right direction.
40:39
O my people! This, the worldly life, is only a provision, and indeed, the hereafter, it is the home of stability.
40:40
Whoever did evil, then he will not be recompensed except the like of it; and whoever did right, of male or female, and he is a believer, then those will enter the Garden; they will be provided for in it without reckoning.
40:41
And O my people! What ails me, I call you to salvation, and you call me to the fire?
40:42
You call me to disbelieve in God, and to associate what I have no knowledge of with Him; and I call you to the Mighty, the Very Forgiving.
40:43
No doubt that what you call me to, there is no call for it in the world nor in the hereafter, and that our return is to God, and that the extravagant, they are the fellows of the fire.
40:44
And soon you will remember what I say to you; and I entrust my affair to God, indeed, God sees the servants.'
40:45
So God guarded him from the evils of what they plotted, and the evil of punishment surrounded the people of Pharaoh.
40:46
The fire, they are exposed to it early morning and evening; and on the day the Hour will stand: 'Make the people of Pharaoh enter the most severe of the punishment.'
40:47
And when they argue with one another in the fire, then the weak will say to those who were proud, 'Indeed we, we were for you followers, so can you avert from us a portion of the fire?'
40:48
Those who were proud will say, 'Indeed, we are all in it; indeed, God certainly has judged between the servants.'
40:49
And those who are in the fire will say to the keepers of Hell, 'Call on your Lord to lighten for us a day of the punishment.'
40:50
They will say, 'And did your messengers not come to you with the clear proofs?' They will say, 'Yes.' They will say, 'Then call.' And the call of the disbelievers is not except in error.
40:51
Indeed We, We will surely help Our messengers and those who believed, in the worldly life and on the day the witnesses will stand;
40:52
On the day their excuse shall not profit the wrongdoers; and for them is the curse, and for them is the evil of the home.
40:53
And surely, certainly, We gave Moses the guidance; and We made the children of Israel inherit the Book,
40:54
Guidance and a reminder for possessors of understanding.
40:55
So be patient; indeed, the promise of God is true; and seek forgiveness for your sin, and glorify with the praise of your Lord in the evening and the early morning.
40:56
Indeed, those who dispute concerning the signs of God without authority coming to them, there is nothing in their breasts except pride; they will not attain it. So seek refuge with God, indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
40:57
Surely the creation of the heavens and the earth is greater than the creation of mankind, but most of mankind do not know.
40:58
And not equal is the blind and the seeing, and those who believed and did good works and the evildoer; little is what you remember.
40:59
Indeed, the Hour is surely coming; there is no doubt concerning it; but most of mankind do not believe.
40:60
And your Lord said, 'Call on Me, I will respond to you; indeed, those who are proud for My service will soon enter Hell, contemptible.'
40:61
God is the one who made the night for you that you may rest in it, and the day to see; indeed, God is surely a possessor of grace upon mankind, but most of mankind do not give thanks.
40:62
That is God, your Lord, the creator of everything, there is no god but He, so how are you turned away?
40:63
Thus those who used to deny the signs of God were turned away.
40:64
God is the one who made the earth a resting-place for you, and the heaven a building, and He fashioned you and He made good your forms; and He provided you of the good things. That is God, your Lord; then blessed is God, the Lord of the worlds.
40:65
He is the Living, there is no God but He; so call on Him, sincere to Him in the religion; praise be to God, the Lord of the worlds.
40:66
Say, 'Indeed I, I was forbidden that I serve those whom you call on besides God, when the clear proofs came to me from my Lord, and I was commanded that I submit to the Lord of the worlds.’
40:67
He is the one who created you from dust, then from a sperm, then from a clot, then He brings you forth a child; then that you may reach your strength; then that you may become old, and among you is he who is caused to die before, and that you may reach a named term, and perhaps you may become intelligent.
40:68
He is the one who gives life and causes death. And when He decides an affair, then He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is.
40:69
Did you not see those who dispute concerning the signs of God, how they are turned away?
40:70
Those who called the Book, and what We sent Our messengers with a lie; so soon they will know,
40:71
When the fetters are in their necks and the chains, they will be dragged
40:72
In the hot water, then in the fire they will be burned.
40:73
Then it will be said to them, 'Where is what you used to associate
40:74
Besides God?' They will say, 'They have gone astray from us; nay, we did not use to call on anything before.' Thus God causes the disbelievers to go astray.
40:75
That is because you used to exult in the earth without the right; and because you used to be exultant.
40:76
Enter the gates of Hell to dwell forever in it; and evil is the abode of the proud.
40:77
So be patient; indeed, the promise of God is true; and whether We definitely show you some of what We promise them, or We definitely cause you to die, then to us they will be returned.
40:78
And surely, certainly we sent messengers before you, among them are who We have narrated to you, and among them are who We did not narrate to you. And it was not for a messenger that he comes with a sign except with the permission of God; then when the command of God comes, it will be decided in truth, and there the vain-doers will lose.
40:79
God is the one who made the cattle for you, that you may ride of them; and of them you eat,
40:80
And for you in them are benefits; and that you may attain upon them a need in your breasts; and upon them and upon the ships you are carried.
40:81
And He shows you His signs; then which of the signs of God will you deny?
40:82
And did they not travel in the earth and see how the end of those who were before them was? They were more than them, and stronger in strength and traces in the earth; and what they used to earn availed them not.
40:83
And when their messengers came to them with the clear proofs, they rejoiced in what was with them of the knowledge; and what they used to mock at surrounded them.
40:84
And when they saw Our punishment they said, 'We have believed in God alone, and we have disbelieved in what we used to associate with Him.'
40:85
Then their faith did not profit them when they saw Our punishment, the course of God which certainly has passed away concerning His servants, and there the disbelievers lost.
