40:1  Haa. Me’im.
40:2  The Revelation Knowledge of this book- (Qur’ān)- is from Allâh, the Almighty, the All-Knowing,
40:3  Who is Merciful toward the iniquities, and accepts repentance, whose punishment is stern and bounty limitless. There is no other god beside Him. To Him is the journeying.
40:4  No one will (venture to) dispute over the Qur'ānic Verses except for those who willfully refuse to yield to the Truth. Now, therefore, do not let their successful movement throughout the land delude you.
40:5  The people of Noah and the confederates after them denied (their Messengers) before them -(the Pagan Arabs). And every nation purposed to persecute their Messenger and disputed by all means of falsehood to rebut therewith the Truth. So I seized them- How dreadful was My requital!
40:6  And so the decree of your Lord has been proven true against those who willfully refuse to yield to the Truth: That truly they are the Denizens of Hell.
40:7  Those (Angels) who bear the (Glorious) Throne (of their Lord) and all those around it celebrate the praise of their Lord, affirming their Faith in Him, asking forgiveness for those who live by Faith, (saying), “Our Lord! You encompass all things in Mercy and knowledge. Forgive those who repent and follow Your path. (Let the omnipotence of Your Mercy) shield them from the punishment of Hellfire.
40:8  Admit them, Our Lord, to the Gardens of Eden which You have promised them, along with the righteous among their fathers, spouses, and offspring. Most certainly, You are the Almighty, the All-Wise.
40:9  And (Let the omnipotence of Your Mercy) shield them from evil deeds. Whomever You shield from the evil deeds this day will surely earn Your Mercy. This is most ultimate success and the supreme one.”
40:10  Those who willfully refuse to yield to the Truth will be told (after they are thrown in hell): “Certainly, Allâh’s passionate hatred of you when you were invited to come to Faith (in the worldly life) and you refused to yield to the Truth is much greater than your own hatred of yourselves (today).”
40:11  They will say: “Our Lord, You have caused us to die twice. And You have given us life twice. So we confess our iniquitous deeds. Is there then any way out of this?”
40:12  (They will be told): “This is (your plight) because whenever Allâh Alone was called upon, you refused to yield to the Truth.. But if others were associated with Him, you would affirm it as true. So the verdict belongs to Allâh, the Most High, the Most Great."
40:13  He is the One Who shows you His Signs (of power & glory) and sends down for you livelihood from the heavens. No one takes close heed except for the one who turns to Allâh in repentance.
40:14  Now, therefore, worship Allâh in the way He wants us to worship Him. No matter how detestable is to those who have no tendency to live by Faith.
40:15  (Allâh is the) Possessor of the highest ranks, Lord of the (Glorious) Throne. He places the inspiration of His Command upon whom He wills of His servants to warn (them) of the day of meeting (Him).
40:16  The day when they appear before Allâh, nothing about them will be hidden from Allâh concerning them. To Whom belongs the (absolute) sovereignty of this day? To Allâh, the One True God, the Omnipotent!
40:17  On that day, every human person will be remunerated (fairly) for what he earned. There will be no injustice on that day. Most certainly Allâh is extremely Swift in taking account..
40:18  Now, therefore, warn them against an imminent day when the hearts will rise up to the throats, grieving inwardly. As for those who have voluntarily and consciously abandoned the Full Knowledge of the Truth in favour of their own whims, they will have neither an intimate friend, nor an intercessor whose intercession might be accepted (by the Lord).
40:19  He already knows perfectly well what beguiles the eyes and what is stored up in the hearts.
40:20  And Allâh judges with the Truth, whereas those to whom they cry besides Him cannot judge aught. Most certainly, Allâh is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer.
40:21  Have they -(the Pagan Arabs)- not travelled through the land and seen what was the dreadful fate of those who were before them? They were more powerful than them in strength and in leaving behind their traces on earth. But Allâh destroyed them for their iniquitous deeds. They had none to defend them or to save them from the retribution of Allâh.
40:22  That was because there came to them their Messengers with Irrefutable Signs, but they persistently refused to yield to the Truth. So Allâh seized them. Most certainly, He is All-Strong and Severe in punishment.
40:23  Surely We sent Moses with Our Sings and decisive argument
40:24  To Pharaoh, Hāmān and Korah, but they said: ”A lying sorcerer!”
40:25  Then, when he brought to them the Truth from Us, they said: “Kill the sons of those who adhere to Monotheism, and spare their women." But the guile of those who persistently refuse to yield to the Truth ended in naught but deception.
40:26  Pharaoh said: "Allow me to kill Moses, and let him call upon his Lord. I truly fear that he may change your traditions or cause corruption to appear throughout the land."
40:27  Moses said: "Most surely I seek earnestly refuge in my Lord and your Lord from every arrogant who has no faith in the Day of Judgment.”
40:28  A monotheistic believer from the clan of Pharaoh who hid his faith said: "Do you kill a man just because he says Allâh is my Lord? He has come to you with Irrefutable Signs from your Lord. However, if it happens that he is a liar, upon him will be his lie, and if he is truthful, there will befall you some of that which he threatens you with. Most surely Allâh holds back the light of His inspiration from the one who is a prodigal and liar.
40:29  O’ my people, today the sovereignty is yours, and you are supreme in the land. But who could protect us from the retribution of Allâh if it came to us?” Pharaoh said: "'I only let you see what I see; and I only lead you to the path of rectitude.
40:30  The monotheistic believer said: "O’ my people, indeed, I truly fear for you (a dreadful) day like that one of the Confederates.
40:31  (A calamity) like that of the people of Noah, ‘Ād, Thamūd, and those who came after them. And Allâh would never intend to be unfair to His Servants.
40:32  O’ my people, I truly fear for you the day of calling out.
40:33  The day when you will turn your backs and flee, having no protector from the (the tribulation) of Allâh. And whomever Allâh allows to fall away from the Truth has no one to lead him to the Truth.”
40:34  Verily Joseph came to you before with Irrefutable Signs, but you continued to harbour doubts about what he brought to you. Then, when he died, you said: "Allâh will not send any Messenger after him." This is how Allâh lets the one who is skeptical prodigal live in deception.
40:35  Those who dispute over the Signs of Allâh without a genuine reason: This act is greatly detestable in the sight of Allâh, as well as in the sight of those who adhere to absolute monotheism. This is how Allâh allows the one who is a prodigal and Spiritually blind to fall away from the Truth.
40:36  And Pharaoh said: "O’ Hāmān, construct for me a high tower that I can reach the pathways,
40:37  Pathways to heavens so that I can climb up to the Lord of Moses. I definitely think that Moses is lying." The evil deeds of Pharaoh was made appealing to him and so he was barred from the right path. And the guile of Pharaoh is no more than perdition.
40:38  The monotheistic believer said: “O’ my people, follow me! I only lead you to the path of rectitude.
40:39  O’ my people, indeed, this worldly life is no more than provisions of illusion, whereas the Hereafter is truly the eternal home.
40:40  And whoever does one evil deed will be requited only with the like of it. And whoever lives by Faith and strives to do righteous work- whether male or female- those are the ones who will be admitted into Al-Jannah wherein they will receive their sustenance without any measure.
40:41  O’ my people, how is it possible that I invite you to salvation and you are inviting me to Hellfire?
40:42  You invite me to abandon my Faith in Allâh and to associate with Him that of which I have no knowledge, whereas I am calling you to (affirm your Faith in) the One who is absolutely the Almighty and the Oft-Forgiving!
40:43  Unquestionably, what you invite me to do has no basis in this worldly life; neither in the Hereafter. Most surely our return will be to Allâh. Most surely the prodigals will be the Denizens of Hell.
40:44  Someday you will remember what I say to you. I confide my issue to Allâh. Most certainly Allâh is Well Aware of all His servants."
40:45  So Allâh saved him from the evil consequences of what they conspired, and the people of Pharaoh were encompassed by the worst punishment:
40:46  They are exposed to Fire (in their graves) morning and evening. And on the day when the Hour comes to pass, (the Angels will be commanded) to let the clan of Pharaoh enter the most severe punishment.
40:47  And (Mention) when they will quarrel in the Fire, the weak ones will say to those who used to act arrogantly and rudely: “Surely we yielded to your whims. Will you then avert from us a portion of the Fire?"
40:48  The ones who used to act arrogantly and rudely will say: “We are all in it. Verily Allâh has already judged between the servants!"
40:49  And those in the Fire will say to the guards of Gehenna: "Call upon your Lord to lighten for us the chastisement for a day."
40:50  They will say: “Did there not come to you your Messengers with the Irrefutable Signs?”. They will say: "Yea." The guards will then say: "You may supplicate (as much as you can), but the supplication of those who were Spiritually blind will be (totally) in vain (today)."
40:51  Verily, We will grant victory to Our Messengers and to those who adhere to the Absolute Monotheism in this worldly life, and on the day when the witnesses will stand forth-
40:52  The day when their excuses will not avail those who indulge in iniquitous deeds.. But they will only have the Curse and the home of anguish.
40:53  And verily We gave Moses the Revelation in Knowledge of Allâh. And We let the Children of Israel inherit the Scripture
40:54  As a True Source of enlightenment and a Spiritual Quotes for those who possess high intelligence and great illumination.
40:55  Now, therefore, cling to patience: the promise of Allâh is definitely true: Ask Forgiveness for your fault and celebrate the praise of your Lord and declare His glory in the evenings and in the early mornings.
40:56  Those who dispute over the Signs of Allâh without a genuine reason, there is nothing else in their hearts but greed for dominance, which they will never be able to achieve. Now, therefore, seek refuge in Allâh. Most certainly He is the One Who is the All- Hearer, the All-Seer.
40:57  Verily, the creation of the heavens and the earth is greater than the creation of human beings. But most people do lack the knowledge (of this truth).
40:58  Not equal are the (spiritually) blind person and the enlightened one, neither are those who live by Faith and strive to do righteous deeds (equal with) the evil-doer. You take little heed.
40:59  The Hour is definitely coming, there is no doubt about it. But most of the people are Spiritually blind.
40:60  Your Lord says: "Pray to Me and I will answer your (prayer): but those who are too arrogant to worship Me will surely enter Gehenna, fully humbled.”
40:61  Allâh is the One Who has made for you the night to rest in it, and the day, to see. Most certainly Allâh is Benevolent towards the people. But most of the people are ungrateful.
40:62  This is Allâh, your Lord, the Creator of all things. There is no other god beside Him. So how can they be (easily) deceived into going away from the Truth?
40:63  This is how those who persistently refused to yield to the Signs of Allâh were deceived (into going away from the Truth).
40:64  Allâh is the One Who has made for you the earth a dwelling place and the heavens a structure. He fashioned you in the best form, providing you with pure and wholesome things. This is Allâh, your Lord.So Blessed Is Allâh, the Lord of all beings.
40:65  He is the Ever Living One. There is no other god beside Him. Now, therefore, call upon Him and worship Him in the way He wants us to worship Him. All praise is due to Allâh, the Lord of all the beings.
40:66  Say, "I have been forbidden to worship those whom you invoke besides Allâh after having received the Irrefutable Signs from my Lord. And I am commanded to submit my whole self to the Lord of all beings.
40:67  He is the One Who created you from dust, then from a semen-drop, then from a clinging substance; then He brings you forth as a child: then He lets you grow and reach maturity; then lets you become old,- though some among you die before - and lets you reach a predetermined age in order that you may achieve a higher level of consciousness.
40:68  He is the One Who gives life and causes death. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, "Be," and it is.
40:69  Have you not seen those who dispute over the Signs of Allâh? How are they turned away from Truth?!
40:70  Those who deny the Book -(the Qur’ān)- and that with which We have sent Our Messengers will come to know (the dire consequences of their persistent and purposeful denial of the Truth).
40:71  When the shackles and chains will be placed around their necks and be dragged
40:72  Into the scalding water, and then they will be burnt in the Fire.
40:73  Then it will be said to them: "Where are (the deities) which you used to associate
40:74  With Allâh?" They will say: “They have vanished away from us. Actually, we used to worship (& venerate) nothing.” This is how Allâh lets those who have no tendency to live by Faith be deceived (into going away from the Truth).
40:75  That was because you used to take delight on earth in things other than the Truth, and that you were inclined to act rudely.
40:76  Now, therefore, enter the gates of Gehenna and dwell therein forever. How dreadful is the abode of those who used to display an arrogant attitude (towards the Authority of Allâh).
40:77  Now, therefore, cling to patience: the promise of Allâh is definitely true: Whether We may allow you to see part of what We threaten them with, or We may cause you to die (before that) , still, to Us shall they be returned.
40:78  And most surely We have sent Messengers before you. Of them are those whom We have mentioned to you, and of them are those whom We have not mentioned to you. It is not possible for a Messenger to be able to produce any revelation knowledge without the Will of Allâh. And when the command of Allâh comes, the matter will be decided with truth. And there where the promoters of falsehood are doomed to face perdition.
40:79  It is Allâh Who appointed for you the cattle so that you may ride some and eat others.
40:80  And there are other benefits for you in them, and that by them you may satisfy any need that is in your hearts. And on them and on ships you are carried.
40:81  He shows you His Signs (of power & glory). Then, which of the Sings of your Lord do you seek to rebut?
40:82  Have they - (the Pagan Arabs)- not travelled through the land to see the (dreadful) fate of those who were before them? They were more powerful than them in strength, and in leaving behind their traces on earth, yet all that which they used to earn did not avail them .
40:83  Then, when their Messengers brought the Irrefutable Signs to them, they chose to take delight in whatever worldly knowledge they had. Thus, they were encompassed by what they used to mock.
40:84  Then, when they saw Our punishment, they said: “We now affirm our Faith in Allâh and renounce what we used to associate with Him."
40:85  But their Faith was of no avail to them when they saw Our punishment. This is the (divine) law of Allâh, which has been established to deal with His servants. And it is thence that those who had no tendency to live by Faith will be doomed to perdition.
