47:1  Those who disbelieved and hindered from the way of Allah, He caused their deeds to go amiss.
47:2  And those who believed and worked righteous deeds and believed in that which has been sent down unto Muhammad, which is the truth from their Lord, He absolved them from their evils and set their hearts right.
47:3  That is because those who disbelieved followed the falsehood and those who believed followed the truth from their Lord. Thus Allah sets forth for the mankind their similitudes.
47:4  Therefore when you meet [in war] those who disbelieved, then smiting of the necks until when you have fully gained the upper hand over them, then bind them fast and after that either you show them grace [through pardon] or you take ransom until such a time when the war will lay down its burdens [arms]. Nonetheless, had Allah so pleased, He would have himself taken victory over them but in this way He tries you one by the others. And those who were killed in the way of Allah, He will never cause their deeds to go amiss.
47:5  He will soon guide them and will set their hearts right.
47:6  And He will make them enter the garden which He has marked out for them.
47:7  O you who believe! If you help Allah, He will help you and He will make your feet firmly established.
47:8  But as for those who disbelieved, distress will be for them and He will cause their deeds to go amiss.
47:9  That is because they hated that which Allah had sent down so He caused their deeds to come to naught.
47:10  Have they not travelled in the earth so that they see how was the ending of those who were before them. Allah brought utter devastation on them and the like of it will be for the disbelievers.
47:11  That is so because Allah is the master of those who believe and that the disbelievers have no master.
47:12  Truly Allah will make enter those who believed and worked righteous deeds into gardens beneath which the rivers flow. As for those who disbelieved, they enjoy [this life] and eat in the manner in which the cattle eat and the fire will be their dwelling place.
47:13  And how many a township which were mightier in power than your town [Mecca], which has expelled you [O Muhammad], We destroyed them and there was no helper for them.
47:14  Is one who is on a clear proof from his Lord like one to whom the evilness of his deeds have been made seemly and so they followed their vain desires.
47:15  The similitude of the garden which has been promised to those who safeguard their own souls [is this]; in it are rivers of water which never stale and rivers of milk the taste of which never changes and rivers of wine delightful for the drinkers and rivers of honey of refined purity. And for them will be there in all kinds of fruits and a forgiveness from their Lord. Can such a one be similar to one who abides forever in the fire and they are given to drink boiling water so that it cuts their bowels into pieces?
47:16  And among them are those who listen to you until when they go out from your presence they say to those who are given the knowledge, “What is it that he just said?” Those are the ones on whose hearts Allah has put a seal so that they follow their vain desires.
47:17  And as for those who found guidance, He increased them in guidance and He granted them their self-guard.
47:18  Are they waiting except for the hour that it should come upon them all of a sudden? and its preconditions have already come. Where then will they find their remembrance once it has come upon them?
47:19  Therefore know that there is no god except Allah and seek forgiveness for your sins and for the believing men and women. For Allah knows all your places of movement and all your places of rest.
47:20  And those who believe say, “If only a surah [chapter] was revealed” but when a surah was revealed with a definite purport and the fighting is mentioned therein, you see those who have a sickness in their hearts look at you with a look of the one which has been assailed by the death. So woe unto them.
47:21  Obedience and a word of kindness and when the matter becomes resolved if only they are truthful to Allah, it would have been best for them.
47:22  What then is expected of you should you turn away but that you will spread corruption in the land and that you will cut asunder your ties of kinship.
47:23  Those are the ones whom Allah has cursed so He caused them to be deaf and caused their sights to go blind.
47:24  Do they not receive the Quran [as it came down from Allah] or is it that hearts have their locks on them?
47:25  Truly those who have turned away on their backs after that the guidance has been made evident to them, it is Satan who has made [their turning away] seemly to them and has given them a long leash.
47:26  That is so because they said unto those who hate what Allah has sent down, “We will obey you in some of the matter.” and Allah knows their secrets.
47:27  So how then it will be when the angels take their souls and beat their faces and their backs.
47:28  That is so because they followed that which caused Allah’s wrath and they hated His pleasure so He caused their deeds to come to naught.
47:29  Or do those in whose hearts is a sickness think that Allah will never bring out their diseases of hearts.
47:30  And had We so pleased, We would have shown them to you so that you would have recognized them by their marks but you will surely recognize them by the tone of the speech. And Allah knows all your deeds.
47:31  And We will surely try you until We mark out those who struggle [in the way] among you and those who are patient and We shall try [you in] your affairs.
47:32  Truly those who disbelieved and hindered from the way of Allah and obstinately opposed the messenger after that the guidance had been made evident for them, they will never hurt Allah in the least and He shall in time bring their deeds to come to naught.
47:33  O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the messenger and do not cause your deeds to go in vain.
47:34  Truly those who disbelieved and hindered from the way of Allah and then died while they were disbelievers, Allah will never grant forgiveness to them.
47:35  So do not be feeble and then call unto the peace while you are uppermost and Allah is with you and He will never take anything away from your deeds.
47:36  The life of this world is nothing but sport and idleness but if you believe and safeguard your own souls, He will give you your reward and He will not ask you for anything from your property.
47:37  If He were to ask you from it [your property] and He were to press you hard for it, you will become stingy and thus He will bring out diseases of your hearts.
47:38  Here you are, you are called to spend in the way of Allah but there are some among you who will be stingy and whoever is stingy he is only stingy against his own soul and Allah is The All-self-sufficient while you are the needy ones and if you turn away, He will replace with a people other than you and then they will not be like you.
