48:1  Indeed We have granted you a manifest victory
48:2  That God may forgive you the faults of your past and those to follow, fulfill His favor on you, and guide you on the straight way
48:3  And that God may help you with powerful help
48:4  It is He Who sent down tranquility to the hearts of the believers, that they may add faith to their faith, because to God belong the forces of the heavens and the earth, and God is Full of Knowledge and Wisdom
48:5  And that He may admit the men and women who believe, into gardens with rivers flowing through them, to dwell therein forever, and remove their sins from them, and that is in the sight of God, the highest achievement
48:6  And that He may punish the hypocrites, men and women, and the polytheist’s men and women, who have a terrible opinion of God. On them is a round of harm. The punishment of God is on them. He has cursed them and has hell ready for them, and terrible is it for a destination
48:7  For to God belong the forces of the heavens and the earth, and God is Exalted in Power, Full of Wisdom
48:8  We have truly sent you as a witness, as a bringer of hope, and as one who warns
48:9  In order that you may believe in God and His messenger, that you may assist and honor Him, and praise Him morning and evening
48:10  Indeed those who pledge their allegiance to you, do no less than pledge their allegiance to God. The hand of God is over their hands. Then anyone who violates his pledge does so to the detriment of his own soul, and anyone who fulfills what he has covenanted with God, God will soon grant him a great reward
48:11  The desert Arabs who lagged behind will say to you, “We were engaged in looking after our flocks and herds, and our families. Can you then ask forgiveness for us?” They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Say, “Who then has any power to intervene on your behalf with God, if His will is to give you some loss or to give you some profit? No, for God is well acquainted with all that you do
48:12  “No, you thought that the messenger and the believers would never return to their families, this seemed pleasing in your hearts, and you had terrible thoughts, for you are a lost people.
48:13  And if any do not believe in God and His messenger, We have prepared for those who reject God, a blazing fire
48:14  To God belongs the control of the heavens and the earth. He forgives whom He wills, and He punishes whom He wills, but God is Oft-Forgiving, Mercifully Redeeming
48:15  Those who lagged behind will say when you are free to march and take spoils of war, “Permit us to follow you.” They wish to change God's decree. Say, “You cannot follow us, God has already declared this beforehand.” Then they will say, “No, you are jealous of us.” No, but little do they understand
48:16  Say to the desert Arabs who lagged behind, “You will be summoned to fight against a people who possess great military might. You will fight, or they will submit. Then if you show obedience, God will grant you an excellent reward, but if you turn back as you did before, He will punish you with a terrible penalty.
48:17  No blame is there on the blind, nor is there blame on those with other disabilities, nor on one who is ill, if they do not join the war. But those who follow God and his messenger, God will admit him to gardens with rivers flowing through them, and he who turns back, God will punish him with a terrible penalty
48:18  God's grace was on the believers when they pledged allegiance to you under the tree. He knew what was in their hearts, and He sent down tranquility to them, and He rewarded them with a speedy victory
48:19  And many gains will they acquire, and God is Exalted in Power, Full of Wisdom
48:20  God has promised that you will acquire many gains, much that He has given you beforehand, and He has restrained the hands of human beings from you, that it may be a sign for the believers, and that He may guide you to a straight path
48:21  And other gains that were not within your power, but which God has comprehended, and God has power over all things
48:22  If the unbelievers fought you, they would certainly turn their backs, and then they would find neither protector nor helper
48:23  Such was the Sunnah of God in the past, and no change will you find in the Sunnah of God
48:24  And it is He Who has restrained their hands from you and your hands from them in Mecca, after He gave you the victory over them, and God sees well all that you do
48:25  They are the ones who denied revelation and hindered you from the Sacred Masjid and the sacrificial animals which they kept from reaching their place of sacrifice. Had there not been believing men and believing women whom you did not know you were trampling, and on whose account a crime would have come to you without your knowledge, God would have allowed you to force your way. But He held back your hands, so that He may admit to His mercy those whom He wills. If they had been apart, We would certainly have punished the unbelievers among them with a terrible punishment
48:26  While the unbelievers had in their hearts distain, distain of ignorance, God sent down His tranquility to His messenger and to the believers, and made them adhere to the command of self-restraint, and they were well entitled to it and worthy of it, and God has full knowledge of all things
48:27  Truly God fulfilled this vision for His messenger, you will enter the Sacred Masjid, if God wills, with minds secure, heads shaved or cut, and without fear. And He knew what you did not, and He granted in addition to this, a speedy victory
48:28  It is He Who has sent His messenger with guidance and a true way of life, to proclaim over all other ways of life, and enough is God for a witness
48:29  Muhammad is the messenger of God, and those who are with him are strong against unbelievers and compassionate among each other. You will see them bow and prostrate themselves, seeking grace from God, and His favor. On their faces are their marks, and are the traces of their prostration. Their similitude in the Torah, and their similitude in the gospel, is a seed that puts forth its shoot, then is made strong, then becomes thick, then stands on its own, filling those who planted it with wonder and pleasure. Meanwhile, it fills the unbelievers with rage. But God has promised those among them who believe and do righteous deeds, forgiveness and a great reward
