General Root Meaning
to sift, send down, snow, drizzle, cloud, select, pick out the best of. nakhal lahuu alnasiihaten - to give earnest advice.

He said, "You believe [to] him before [that] I gave permission to you. Indeed, he (is) your chief, the one who taught you the magic. So surely I will cut off your hands and your feet of opposite sides, and surely I will crucify you on (the) trunks (of) date-palms and surely you will know which of us (is) more severe (in) punishment and more lasting."

And He (is) the One Who sends down from the sky water, then We bring forth with it vegetation (of) every thing. Then We bring forth from it green plant, We bring forth from it grain - thick clustered. And from the date-palm, from its spathe clusters of dates hanging low. And gardens of grapes and the olives and the pomegranates resembling and not resembling. Look at its fruit when it bears fruit and its ripening. Indeed, in that (are) signs for a people (who) believe.

Then drove her the pains of childbirth to (the) trunk (of) the date-palm. She said, "O! I wish I (had) died before this and I was (in) oblivion, forgotten."

And shake towards you (the) trunk (of) the date-palm, it will drop upon you fresh dates ripe.

And from fruits the date-palm, and the grapes, you take from it intoxicant and a provision good. Indeed, in that (is) surely a Sign for a people who use reason.

And set forth to them the example of two men: We provided for one of them two gardens of grapes, and We bordered them with date-palms, and We placed between both of them crops.

Plucking out men as if they (were) trunks (of) date-palms uprooted.

Which He imposed upon them (for) seven nights and eight days (in) succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were trunks (of) date-palms hollow.

Would like any of you that it be for him a garden, of date-palms and grapevines flowing [from] underneath it the rivers, for him in it of all (kinds) (of) [the] fruits, and strikes him [the] old age and [for] his children (are) weak then falls on it whirlwind, in it (is) fire then it is burnt. Thus makes clear Allah for you (His) Signs so that you may ponder.

Or you have for you a garden of date-palms and grapes, you cause to gush forth the rivers within them abundantly.

Then We produced for you by it gardens (of) date-palms and grapevines, for you, in it (are) fruits abundant and from them you eat.

And We placed therein gardens of date-palms and grapevines, and We caused to gush forth in it of the springs,

And He (is) the One Who produced gardens trellised and other than trellised and the date-palm and the crops, diverse (are) its taste, and the olives and the pomegranates similar and other than similar. Eat of its fruit when it bears fruit, and give its due (on the) day (of) its harvest. And (do) not (be) extravagant. Indeed, He (does) not love the ones who are extravagant.

And the palms trees tall - for it (are) layers arranged.

Therein (is) fruit and date-palms having sheaths,

   wal-nakhīla   (1)

He causes to grow for you with it, the crops and the olives and the date-palms and the grapes and of every kind (of) fruits. Indeed, in that surely (is) a sign for a people who reflect.

   wanakhlun   (1)

In both of them (are) fruits and date-palms and pomegranates.

   wanakhlin   (1)

And cornfields and date-palms its spadix soft?

   wanakhlan   (1)

And olive and date-palms,

   wanakhīlun   (1)

And in the earth are tracks neighboring, and gardens of grapevines and crops and date-palms trees (growing) from a single and not trees (growing) from a single watered with water one; but We cause to exceed some of them over others in the fruit. Indeed, in that surely (are) Signs for a people who use reason.
