athar means after, footstep/trace/mark/track/remnant/tradition/teaching, impression/influence, stamp/scar, remains, relics of knowledge transmitted, sunnah, vestige, print, memorial of antiquity. (i.e. that which is left behind from something)
   āthāri   (1)

So look at (the) effects (of the) Mercy (of) Allah, how He gives life (to) the earth after its death. Indeed, that surely He (will) give life (to) the dead. And He (is) on every thing All-Powerful.

   āthārihim   (1)

And We sent on their footsteps Isa, son (of) Maryam, confirming what (was) between his hands of the Taurat, and We gave him the Injeel, in it (was) Guidance and light and confirming what (was) between his hands of the Taurat and a Guidance and an admonition for the God conscious.

Then perhaps you would (be) the one who kills yourself over their footsteps, if not they believe in this [the] narration, (in) grief.

So they on their footsteps they hastened.

Nay, they say, "Indeed, we [we] found our forefathers upon a religion and indeed, we on their footsteps (are) guided."

And thus not We sent from before you in a town any warner except said (the) wealthy ones of it, "Indeed, we [we] found our forefathers on a religion, and indeed, we [on] their footsteps (are) following."

Then We sent on their footsteps Our Messengers and We followed with Isa, son (of) Maryam, and We gave him the Injeel. And We placed in (the) hearts (of) those who followed him compassion and mercy. But monasticism they innovated - not We prescribed it for them - only seeking (the) pleasure (of) Allah, but not they observed it (with) right observance. So We gave those who believed among them their reward, but most of them (are) defiantly disobediently.

   āthārihimā   (1)

He said, "That (is) what we were seeking." So they returned on their footprints, retracing.

   ātharaka   (1)

They said, "By Allah, certainly has preferred you Allah over us and indeed, we have been sinners."

   athāratin   (1)

Say, "Do you see what you call from besides Allah? Show me what they have created of the earth or for them (is) any share in the heavens? Bring me a book from before this or traces of knowledge, if you are truthful."

   athari   (2)

Muhammad (is the) Messenger (of) Allah. and those who (are) with him (are) firm against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating, seeking Bounty from Allah and pleasure. Their mark (is) on their faces from (the) trace (of) the prostration. That (is) their similitude in the Taurat And their similitude in the Injeel (is) like a seed (which) sends forth its shoot then strengthens it, then it becomes thick and it stands upon its stem delighting the sowers that He (may) enrage by them the disbelievers. has promised Allah those who believe and do righteous deeds among them, forgiveness and a reward great.

He said, "I perceived what not they perceive, in it, so I took a handful from (the) track (of) the Messenger then threw it, and thus suggested to me my soul."

   atharī   (1)

He said, "They (are) close upon my tracks, and I hastened to you my Lord, that You be pleased."

   tu'thirūna   (1)

Nay! You prefer the life (of) the world,

   nu'thiraka   (1)

They said, "Never we will prefer you over what has come to us of the clear proofs, and the One Who created us. So decree whatever you (are) decreeing. Only you can decree (for) this life (of) the world.

   waāthāran   (2)

Do not they travel in the earth and see how was (the) end (of) those who were before them? from They were [they] superior to them (in) strength and (in) impressions in the land, but seized them Allah for their sins, and not was for them against Allah any protector.

Do they not travel through the land and see how was (the) end (of) those who (were) from before them? They were more numerous than them and mightier (in) strength and impressions in the land, but not availed them what they used to earn.

   waāthārahum   (1)

Indeed, We [We] give life (to) the dead and We record what they have sent before and their footprints, and every thing We have enumerated it in a Register clear.

   waāthara   (1)

And preferred the life (of) the world,

   wayu'thirūna   (1)

And those who settled (in) the home and (accepted) faith from before them love (those) who emigrated to them, and not they find in their breasts any want of what they were given but prefer over themselves, even though was with them poverty. And whoever is saved (from) stinginess (of) his soul, then those [they] (are) the successful ones.

   yu'tharu   (1)

Then he said, "Not (is) this but magic imitated.
