54:1  The Hour has drawn near, and the moon was split

54:2  Whereas if they see a sign, they dismissively turn away, saying, “Persistent sorcery.”

54:3  And they have belied the Truth and followed their whims. While every matter is ever firmly set.

54:4  And the accounts [concerning the past beliers] have already come to them. What is therein, is a cautionary warning—

54:5  relevant wisdom. So then, the warnings avail not.

54:6  So, turn you away from them. On a day, the caller will call to an ineffable thing.

54:7  Their sights lowered, they will emerge from their repositories, as if they were locusts on the loose,

54:8  rushing towards the caller. The disbelievers will say, “This is a hard day.”

54:9  Before them, the people of Noah denied the truth— they denied OUR servant and had said, “A man possessed,” and he was deterred.

54:10  So, he called upon his Rabb, “I have been overcome, do then YOU vindicate.”

54:11  So, WE opened the gates of the sky to cascading water

54:12  While WE caused the earth to burst with gushing water. Thus, met the waters, in compliance to a command, predetermined.

54:13  And WE carried him on a composition of planks and fasteners

54:14  It took its course under OUR sight— a requital for one who was rejected.

54:15  And WE have left it to be a sign. So, is there anyone taking note?

54:16  So then how was MY punishment and MY warnings?

54:17  WE have indeed made the Quran easy for the remembrance [of God]. So then is anyone taking note?

54:18  The Aad denied the Truth. So then how was MY punishment and MY warnings?

54:19  Surely, WE sent upon them a cold howling gale in a day of unrelenting calamity,

54:20  swooping off men as if they were trunks of uprooted date palms.

54:21  So then, how was MY punishment and MY warnings?

54:22  WE have indeed made the Quran easy for the remembrance [of God]. So then is anyone taking note?

54:23  The Thamūd denied the warnings,

54:24  So [in denial] they had said, “One single mortal from amongst us— are we to follow him? If we were to do so, we indeed would end up deep in error and a mad firestorm.

54:25  Has the divine message been cast upon him, from amongst all of us? Nay he is an exuberant liar.”

54:26  [It was said], “Tomorrow they shall know, who is the exuberant liar.

54:27  WE are the she-camel’s Sender— a trial for them. So, watch them and persevere.

54:28  And inform them that the water is an allocation between them— every drinking turn, an accorded access.”

54:29  But they summoned one of them, he took charge and hamstrung [her].

54:30  So then how was MY punishment and MY warnings?

54:31  Surely, WE sent upon them a single blast and they became like the left-over wood shavings of the fence maker.

54:32  WE have indeed made the Quran easy for the remembrance [of God]. So then is anyone taking note?

54:33  The people of Lot [also] denied the warnings.

54:34  WE sent upon them a deadly storm— excepting the lineage of Lot; WE saved them before the day broke—

54:35  A blessing from US. Thus, do WE compensate one who has been grateful.

54:36  And he did warn them of OUR mighty reach— but they were skeptical of the warning.

54:37  They did accost him to yield his guests. In return, WE wiped out their sights. So [with your un-availed vision now taken away], taste MY punishment and [the truth in] MY warnings.

54:38  And indeed, come morning— start of day, an in-place entombing punishment came upon them.

54:39  So [their time had come]: taste MY punishment and [the truth in] MY warnings.

54:40  WE have indeed made the Quran easy for the remembrance [of God]. So then is anyone taking note?

54:41  We did indeed send the warnings to the ilk of Pharaoh.

54:42  They rejected all of OUR signs. So, WE seized them— a seizing of One almighty, assignor of all fates.

54:43  Are the disbelievers of you better than those [earlier ones]? Or do you have absolution in the scriptures?

54:44  Or do they say, “We are a self-sustaining collective”?

54:45  The collective will soon be routed, and they will flee showing their backs.

54:46  Rather, the Hour is their appointed time, and the Hour will be most calamitous and most bitter.

54:47  Surely, the flouters of divine guidance are deep in error and a mad firestorm.

54:48  On a day they will be dragged into the fire upon their faces: Partake the scrub of Saqar.

54:49  Of certain, WE have created everything in a precise measure.

54:50  And OUR command is not but singularly one— like the split-moment with the sight.

54:51  WE have destroyed your kind before. So then is anyone taking note?

54:52  And each thing which they have done is in the scriptures [containing the accounts of the former peoples].

54:53  And everything small and big is a record by item.

54:54  Verily, the God-conscious will be amidst gardens and flowing water,

54:55  in the seat of truth, in the presence of a Sovereign Who destines all things and their measure.
