29:1  Alif, Laam, Miim
29:2  Do the people think that they will be left alone by saying, “We believe,” and not be tested
29:3  We tested those before them, and God will certainly make known those who are truthful from those who are liars
29:4  Do those who do wrong think that they will get the better of Us? Poor is their judgment
29:5  For those whose hopes are in the meeting with God in the hereafter, let them strive, for the term appointed by God is surely coming and He hears and knows all things
29:6  And if any strive, they do so for their own souls, for God is free of all needs from all creation
29:7  Those who believe and do righteous deeds, from them We will remove all sin that may be in them, and We will reward them according to the best of their deeds
29:8  We have enjoined on humanity kindness to parents, but if either of them tries to force you to join in worship anything with Me of which you do not know, do not follow them. You all have to return to me, and I will tell you the truth of all that you did
29:9  And those who believe and work righteous deeds, We will admit them to the company of the righteous
29:10  Then there are some people who say, “We believe in God.” But when they suffer affliction in the cause of God, they perceive the human inflicted problem as if it were the punishment of God, and if help comes to you from your Lord, they are sure to say, “We were with you.” Does God not know best all that is in the heart of all creation
29:11  And God most certainly knows those who believe, and just as certainly, those who are hypocrites
29:12  And the unbelievers say to those who believe, “Follow our way, and we will bear the consequences of your faults.” Never in the least will they bear their consequences, in fact they are liars
29:13  They will however, bear their own burdens, and share the burdens of others, and on the Day of Accountability they will be called to account for their lies
29:14  Indeed We sent Noah to his people, and he stayed among them a thousand years less fifty, but the flood overwhelmed them while they persisted in harmful deeds
29:15  But We saved him and the companions of the Ark, and We made the Ark a sign for all people
29:16  And We also saved Abraham. Behold, he said to his people, “Serve God, and be conscious of Him. That will be best for you, if you understand
29:17  “For you worship idols besides God, and you create falsehood. The things that you worship besides God has no power to give you sustenance. So seek sustenance from God, serve Him, and be grateful to Him. To Him will be your return
29:18  “And if you reject the message, so did generations before you, and the duty of the messenger is only to preach publicly and clearly.
29:19  Do they not see how God originates creation then repeats it? Truly that is easy for God
29:20  Say, “Travel through the earth and see how God originated creation, as will God produce a later creation, for God has power over all things
29:21  “He punishes whom He pleases, and He grants mercy to whom He pleases, and toward Him are you turned
29:22  “Neither on earth nor in heaven will you be able to flee from, or sabotage his plan, nor have you besides God, any protector or helper.
29:23  Those who reject the signs of God and the meeting with Him in the hereafter, and those who despair of My mercy, they will suffer a most terrible penalty
29:24  So nothing was the answer of Abraham’s people except that they said, “Slay him, or burn him.” But God saved him from the fire. Indeed in this are signs for people who believe
29:25  And he said, “You have taken for worship idols besides God, out of mutual love and regard between yourselves in this life, but on the Day of Accountability you will disown and curse each other, and your abode will be the ?re, and you will have none to help you.
29:26  But Lot had faith in Him. He said, “I will leave home for the sake of my Lord, for He is Exalted in Might, and Wise.
29:27  And We gave him Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and ordained among his progeny the prophetic office and revelation, and We granted him his reward in this life, and he was in the hereafter of the company of the righteous
29:28  And Lot, when he said to his people, “You commit lewdness, such as no people in creation committed before you
29:29  “Do you indeed approach men, and cut off the lineage? And practice sin, even in your councils?” But his people gave no answer except this, “Bring us the punishment of God if you tell the truth.
29:30  He said, “O my Lord, help me against the people who do wrong.
29:31  When Our messengers came to Abraham with the good news they said, “We are indeed going to destroy the people of this township, for truly they are addicted to sin.
29:32  He said, “But Lot is there.” They said, “We know full well who is there. We will certainly save him and his following, except his wife, she is of those who lag behind.
29:33  And when Our messengers came to Lot, he was grieved on their account, and felt powerless to protect them, but they said, “Fear not, nor grieve, we are here to save you and your following, except your wife, she is of those who lag behind
29:34  “For we are going to bring down on the people of this township a punishment from heaven, because they have been totally rebellious.
29:35  And We have left of it an evident sign for any people who care to understand
29:36  To the Madyan people We sent their brother Shu’aib, then he said, “O my people, serve God, and anticipate the Last Day, nor do wrong on the earth, as those do who are corrupt.
29:37  But they rejected him, then the mighty blast seized them, and they lay prostrate in their homes
29:38  Remember also the ‘Ad and the Thamud people. Clearly there, their fate will appear to you from the traces of their buildings. Satan made their deeds alluring to them, and kept them back from the path, though they were gifted with intelligence and skill
29:39  Remember also Qarun, Pharaoh, and Haman. There came to them Moses with clear signs, but they behaved with insolence on the earth, yet they could not overreach Us
29:40  Each one of them We seized for their sin. Against some of them, We sent a violent tornado with showers of stones, some were caught by a mighty blast, some We caused the earth to swallow up, and some We drowned in the waters. It was not God Who wronged them, they wronged their own souls
29:41  The parable of those who take protectors other than God, is that of the spider who builds for itself a house, but truly the flimsiest of houses is the spider’s house, if they only knew
29:42  Indeed God knows of anything whatsoever they call upon besides Him, and He is Exalted in Power, the Wise
29:43  And these are the parables We set forth for humanity, but only those with knowledge understand them
29:44  God created the heavens and the earth in true proportions, indeed in that is a sign for those who believe. 44 (End of Part 20
29:45  Recite what is sent of the Book by inspiration to you, and establish prayer, for prayer restrains from shameful and harmful deeds, and remembering God is the greatest thing, and God knows the deeds that you do
29:46  And do not dispute with the people of the Book, except with what is best, unless it is with those of them who inflict wrong. Instead say, “We believe in the revelation which has come down to us, and in that which came down to you. Our God and your God is one, and it is to Him we bow.
29:47  And We have sent down the Book to you. And those we gave the Book believe in it, as do some of these, and none but unbelievers reject our signs
29:48  And you were not able to recite a book before this, nor are you able to transcribe it with your right hand. In that case indeed, they would have doubted
29:49  No, here are signs self-evident in the hearts of those endowed with knowledge, and none but the unjust reject Our signs
29:50  And they say, “Why are not signs sent down to him from his Lord?” Say, “The signs are indeed with God, and I am indeed a clear warner.
29:51  And is it not enough for them that we have sent down to you the Book that is rehearsed to them? Indeed, in it is a mercy and a reminder to those who believe
29:52  Say, “Enough is God for a witness between you and me. He knows what is in the heavens and on earth, and it is those who believe in vanities and reject God who will perish
29:53  They ask you to hasten the punishment for them. Had it not been for a term of respite appointed, the punishment would certainly have come to them, and it will certainly reach them all of a sudden, when they least expect it
29:54  They ask you to hasten on the punishment, but indeed hell will encompass the rejecters of faith
29:55  On the day that the punishment will cover them from above them and from below them, and a voice will say, “Taste the fruits of your deeds.
29:56  O My servants who believe, truly spacious is My earth, therefore serve Me
29:57  Every soul will have a taste of death. In the end, to Us will you all be brought back
29:58  But those who believe and do deeds of righteousness, to them We will give a home in heaven, lofty mansions beneath which rivers flow, to dwell therein forever. An excellent reward for the workers
29:59  Those who persevere in patience, and put their trust in their Lord
29:60  How many are the creatures that do not carry their own sustenance? It is God who feeds them and you, for He hears and He knows
29:61  If indeed you ask them who has created the heavens and the earth, and ordered the Sun and the Moon, they will certainly reply, “God.” How are they then deluded
29:62  God increases the sustenance of whichever of His servants He pleases, and He saves for him, for God has full knowledge of all things
29:63  And if indeed you ask them who it is that sends down rain from the sky, and gives life with it to the earth after its death, they will certainly reply, “God.” Say, “Praise belongs to God.” But most of them do not understand
29:64  What is the life of the present but entertainment and play? But indeed the home in the hereafter, that is life indeed, if they only knew
29:65  Now, if they embark on a vessel, they call on God, making their devotion sincerely and exclusively to Him, but once He has delivered them safely to land behold, they give a share of their worship to others
29:66  Denying what We have given them, but let them enjoy it, because soon they will know
29:67  Do they not then see that We have made a secure sanctuary, and that people are being snatched away from all around them? Then, do they believe in falsehood, and reject God
29:68  And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie against God or rejects the truth when it reaches him? Is there not a home in hell for those who do not believe
29:69  And those who strive in Our cause, We will certainly guide them to our paths, for indeed God is with those who do right
