Today's Ayat for Monday, 2018-03-12 / 24 Jumada al-thani 1439

ALLURING unto man is the enjoyment of worldly desires through women, and children, and heaped-up treasures of gold and silver, and horses of high mark, and cattle, and lands. All this may be enjoyed in the life of this world - but the most beauteous of all goals is with God.
--
Wealth and children are an adornment of this, world's life: but good deeds, the fruit whereof endures forever, are of far greater merit in thy Sustainer's sight, and a far better source of hope.

  -- al-Imran 3:14 and al-Kahf 18:46 as rendered by Muhammad Asad

This is today's comment:

This is a simple and oft-repeated message:  Be careful of the illusions of this life, they are not what we carry forward.

This is an OPINION.
We must always read the verse(s) for ourselves!

Today's Ayat for Monday, 2018-03-05 / 17 Jumada al-thani 1439

If you have suffered injuries ˹at Uḥud˺, they suffered similarly ˹at Badr˺. We alternate these days ˹of victory and defeat˺ among people so that Allah may reveal the ˹true˺ believers, choose martyrs from among you—and Allah does not like the wrongdoers—

-- al-Imran 3:140 as rendered in  The Clear Quran, by Dr. Mustafa Khattab

IslamAwakened has been asked to add commentary to our Today's Ayat
This is today's comment:

We are reminded often in the Qur'an that we are here to be tested.
This verse, while referring to historical events, also applies to all of us today. As individuals, or as groups and teams, we will have progress and setbacks. We should not see such setbacks as punishments but as both tests and as lessons. Serious self-examination will show us much of the foundations of our "defeats".  We also need to remember that even a success can be a test!
Takeaway: "Good days" and "bad days" are guaranteed; it is on us to learn from them.

This is an OPINION.
We must always read the verse(s) for ourselves!

Today's Ayat for Sunday, 2018-03-04 / 16 Jumada al-thani 1439

Say to them: "Act. God will see your conduct, and so will His Apostle and the faithful; for you will in the end go back to Him, who knows the unknown and the known, who will tell you of what you were doing."
--
Who created death and life in order to try you to see who of you are best of deed. He is all-mighty and forgiving,

  -- at-Taubah 9:105 and al-Mulk 67:2 as rendered by Ahmed Ali

IslamAwakened has been asked to add commentary to our Today's Ayat
This is today's comment:

Many, many passages in the Qur'an warn us that we will be judged on our intentions (see al-Baqarah 2:173, al-Baqarah 2:225, al-Ma`idah 5:89, al-An`am 6:152, etc.); but this does NOT mean that "sending thoughts and prayers" are all that we will be judged on when we come to the Last Day.
Even in the time of the Prophet(sallallahu alaihi wa salaam) - at-Taubah 9:105 -
and now, and for the rest of worldly time - al-Mulk 67:2 -
it is the DEEDS we do that measure us.
Good intentions must generate good actions.

This is an OPINION.

We must always read the verse(s) for ourselves!

Today's Ayat for Saturday, 2018-03-03 / 15 Jumada al-thani 1439

Believers, be mindful of God. And let every soul consider what it has put forth for tomorrow, and be mindful of God, for God is well aware of what you do.
--
And it will be said, "Read your book. Today you are a witness against yourself."

  -- al-Hashr 59:18 and al-Isra` 17:14 as rendered by Safi Kaskas

IslamAwakened has been asked to add commentary to our Today's Ayat
This is today's comment:

These two ayat serve as "before" and "after" perspectives on the same important theme.
While we live - "before" - 59:18 reminds us to invest in our future fate, living and beyond.
When the Last Day comes - "after" - 17:14 tells us that our investments will be our record.
The theme:  We must not waste our days.

This is an OPINION.

We must always read the verse(s) for ourselves!

Today's Ayah for Friday, 2018-03-02 / 14 Jumada al-thani 1439

Will they not, then, try to understand this Qur’an? Had it issued from any but God, they would surely have found in it many an inner contradiction!

-- an-Nisa` 4:82 as rendered by Muhammad Asad

This is today's comment:

an-Nisa` 4:82 speaks to both those who believe and serves as an admonition to those who disbelieve or who doubt.
For those of us who believe, we are being simple reminded to read the Qur'an often and consider its full meaning(s).
As for those with doubts - Allah tells them to TEST His book.  No human could have written it.
(See also   al-Baqarah 2:23Yunus 10:38, and  Hud 11:13)

This is an OPINION.

We must always read the verse(s) for ourselves!
