1:1  Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,
1:2  to the saints and faithful brothers in Christ at Colossae: Grace to you and peace from God our Father.
1:3  We always thank · God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,
1:4  for we have heard of · your faith in Christ Jesus and the love that you have for all the saints.
1:5  Both spring from the hope · laid up for you in · heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of truth, the gospel,
1:6  which has come to you. Just as · in the entire world it is bearing fruit and growing, so also is it among you from the day you heard it and understood the grace of God in truth;
1:7  just as you learned it from Epaphras · our beloved fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf
1:8  · and has told us of your love in the Spirit.
1:9  For this reason, · from the day we heard about you, we have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,
1:10  that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God,
1:11  being strengthened with all power according to · his glorious might, · for the display of all endurance and patience; while joyfully
1:12  giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to · share in the inheritance of the saints in the light.
1:13  He has rescued us from the tyranny of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved Son, ·
1:14  in whom we have · redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
1:15  He is the image of the invisible God, · the firstborn over all creation;
1:16  for in him all things were created, in · heaven and on · earth, things visible and · invisible, whether thrones or dominions, whether principalities or powers—all things have been created through him and for him.
1:17  And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
1:18  And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, in order that he might be preeminent in everything.
1:19  For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,
1:20  and through him to reconcile · all things to himself, · whether · on · earth or · in · heaven, by making peace through his blood shed on the cross.
1:21  And you who were at one time alienated and hostile in mind, doing · · evil deeds,
1:22  he has now · reconciled in Christ’s physical · body · through his death, in order to present you holy, · without blemish and beyond reproach in his sight—
1:23  if indeed you continue in the faith, stable and steadfast, · not shifting from the hope of the gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed to every creature · under · heaven, and of which I, Paul, became a minister.
1:24  I am now rejoicing in my sufferings on your behalf, and in my flesh am completing what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ · for the sake of · his body, which is the church,
1:25  of which I became a minister according to the stewardship from God that was given to me for your benefit, to make the word of God fully known,
1:26  the mystery that has been hidden for · ages and · generations, but has now been revealed to his saints.
1:27  To them God chose · to make known how great among the Gentiles are the glorious riches · of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
1:28  He is the one we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ.
1:29  To this end · I labor, striving according to · his power that works powerfully in me.
