| 56:1 | | When the event befalls, |
| 56:2 | | there is no falsehood in its befalling, |
| 56:3 | | (it will) bring down (some and) exalt (others). |
| 56:4 | | When the earth will be shaken (with) a shaking |
| 56:5 | | and the mountains will be crumbled (with) a crumbling, |
| 56:6 | | so that they will become as scattered dust. |
| 56:7 | | And you will become three kinds: |
| 56:8 | | So the companions of the right hand. How will the companions of the right hand be? |
| 56:9 | | And the companions of the left hand. How will the companions of the left hand be? |
| 56:10 | | And the foremost are the foremost. |
| 56:11 | | Those are the persons who will be brought near |
| 56:12 | | in gardens of bliss, |
| 56:13 | | numerous from among the ancients |
| 56:14 | | and less from among the later, |
| 56:15 | | (they will be) on couches encrusted (with gold and precious stones), |
| 56:16 | | reclining on them facing one another. |
| 56:17 | | Youths always staying (in attendance) will go around them |
| 56:18 | | with bowls and beakers and cups (filled with drinks) from a spring. |
| 56:19 | | They will not have headache from it nor will they be intoxicated. |
| 56:20 | | And (they will have) fruits from what they choose |
| 56:21 | | and flesh of birds from that which they desire, |
| 56:22 | | and fair ones with wide beautiful eyes |
| 56:23 | | resembling in likeness, hidden pearls, |
| 56:24 | | a reward for that which they used to do. |
| 56:25 | | They will hear therein nothing vain or sinful |
| 56:26 | | but the statement, “Peace! Peace!” |
| 56:27 | | And the companions of the right hand. How will the companions of the right hand be? |
| 56:28 | | (They will be) among thorn less lote trees, |
| 56:29 | | and clustered plantains, |
| 56:30 | | and extending shade, |
| 56:31 | | and water flowing continuously, |
| 56:32 | | and fruits in plenty, |
| 56:33 | | neither to be cut off nor forbidden, |
| 56:34 | | and raised beds. |
| 56:35 | | We have produced them (females, and they are such) creation |
| 56:36 | | that We have made them virgins, |
| 56:37 | | loving, equals in age |
| 56:38 | | for the companions of the right hand. |
| 56:39 | | Numerous from among the ancients, |
| 56:40 | | and numerous from among the later. |
| 56:41 | | And the companions of the left hand. How will the companions of the left hand be? |
| 56:42 | | (They will be) in hot wind and boiling water, |
| 56:43 | | and shadows of black smoke, |
| 56:44 | | neither cool nor beneficial. |
| 56:45 | | Before that (i.e. in the worldly life) they were well-off |
| 56:46 | | and they used to persist in great sin, |
| 56:47 | | and they used to say, “What! when we are dead and become (part of the) soil and bones, shall we indeed be raised (to life again), |
| 56:48 | | and our forefathers (too)?” |
| 56:49 | | Say, “Certainly, the ancients and the later, |
| 56:50 | | all will be gathered at the appointed time on the known day.” |
| 56:51 | | Then all of you ! O you who err and deny, |
| 56:52 | | you will eat from the tree of Zaqqum |
| 56:53 | | and fill your stomachs with it, |
| 56:54 | | then over it you will drink from boiling water |
| 56:55 | | and you will drink (as) a thirsty camel drinks. |
| 56:56 | | This will be their entertainment on the day of judgment. |
| 56:57 | | We have created you, then why do you not accept the truth? |
| 56:58 | | Have you seen (the sperm) which you emit? |
| 56:59 | | Is it you who have created it or are We the Creators? |
| 56:60 | | We have destined death among you, and We are not to be overcome |
| 56:61 | | in changing your likeness and producing you in (a state), the knowledge of which you do not have. |
| 56:62 | | And you indeed know the first creation, so why are you not mindful? |
| 56:63 | | Have you seen that which you sow? |
| 56:64 | | Is it you who grow (the plants through) it or are We the Growers? |
| 56:65 | | Had We willed, We could have made it broken pieces, then you would start wondering, |
| 56:66 | | “We are (involved) in a lasting difficulty, |
| 56:67 | | no, we are deprived.” |
| 56:68 | | Have you seen the water which you drink? |
| 56:69 | | Is it you who send it down from the cloud or are We those Who send it down? |
| 56:70 | | Had We willed We could have made it bitter, so why are you not grateful? |
| 56:71 | | Have you seen the fire which you kindle? |
| 56:72 | | Is it you who produce the tree for it or are We the Producers? |
| 56:73 | | We have made it a reminder (probably of hell fire) and a provision for the needy (wayfarer). |
| 56:74 | | So glorify the name of your Great Fosterer. |
| 56:75 | | So I do swear by the places of existence of the stars, |
| 56:76 | | and that certainly is a great oath, if you only knew. |
| 56:77 | | It is certainly an honoured Quran, |
| 56:78 | | in a book that is protected, |
| 56:79 | | none touch it except those who are clean, |
| 56:80 | | sent down from the Fosterer of the worlds. |
| 56:81 | | Then is it this statement which (is so important), that you take easy? |
| 56:82 | | And you make it your livelihood, that you (go on) denying it! |
| 56:83 | | So why is it not that when the (soul) reaches the throat, |
| 56:84 | | and you are at that time looking on (waiting), |
| 56:85 | | and We are nearer to the (dying person) than you, but not visible to you, |
| 56:86 | | so why is it not, if you are not bound by any law, |
| 56:87 | | (that you) bring the (soul) back, if you are truthful? |
| 56:88 | | Then if he is from among those near (to Allah), |
| 56:89 | | then (he will have) happiness and fragrance and the garden of bliss. |
| 56:90 | | And if he is from among the companions of the right hand, |
| 56:91 | | then (it will be said), “Peace for you, from those of the right hand.” |
| 56:92 | | And if he is from among the deniers who are in error, |
| 56:93 | | then the entertainment (for him) will be of boiling water |
| 56:94 | | and entry in hell. |
| 56:95 | | This indeed is the certain truth. |
| 56:96 | | So glorify the name of your Great Fosterer. |
