| 52:1 | | By the Mount [Sinai] |
| 52:2 | | by the Book inscribe |
| 52:3 | | on an unrolled parchment |
| 52:4 | | by the House greatly frequented |
| 52:5 | | by the vault raised high |
| 52:6 | | by the surging sea |
| 52:7 | | indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely befall |
| 52:8 | | There is none who can avert it |
| 52:9 | | On the day when the sky whirls violently |
| 52:10 | | and the mountains move with an awful motion |
| 52:11 | | woe to the deniers on that da |
| 52:12 | | —those who play around in vain talk |
| 52:13 | | the day when they will be shoved toward the fire of hell forcibly |
| 52:14 | | [and told:] ‘This is the Fire which you used to deny!&rsquo |
| 52:15 | | Is this then magic, or is it you who do not perceive |
| 52:16 | | ‘Enter it, and whether you are patient or impatient it will be the same for you. You are only being requited for what you used to do.&rsquo |
| 52:17 | | Indeed the Godwary will be amid gardens and bliss |
| 52:18 | | rejoicing because of what their Lord has given them, and that their Lord has saved them from the punishment of hell |
| 52:19 | | [They will be told:] ‘Enjoy your food and drink, [as a reward] for what you used to do.&rsquo |
| 52:20 | | They will be reclining on arrayed couches, and We will wed them to big-eyed houris |
| 52:21 | | The faithful and their descendants who followed them in faith —We will make their descendants join them, and We will not stint anything from [the reward of] their deeds. Every man is a hostage to what he has earned |
| 52:22 | | We will provide them with fruits and meat, such as they desire |
| 52:23 | | There they will pass from hand to hand a cup wherein there will be neither any vain talk nor sinful speech |
| 52:24 | | They will be waited upon by youths, their own, as if they were guarded pearls |
| 52:25 | | They will turn to one another, questioning each other |
| 52:26 | | They will say, ‘Indeed, aforetime, we used to be apprehensive about our families |
| 52:27 | | But Allah showed us favour and He saved us from the punishment of the [infernal] miasma |
| 52:28 | | indeed we used to supplicate Him aforetime. Indeed He is the All-benign, the All-merciful.&rsquo |
| 52:29 | | So admonish. By your Lord’s blessing, you are not a soothsayer, nor mad |
| 52:30 | | Do they say, ‘[He is] a poet, for whom we await a fatal accident’ |
| 52:31 | | Say, ‘Wait! I too am waiting along with you.&rsquo |
| 52:32 | | Is it their intellect which prompts them to [say] this, or are they a rebellious lot |
| 52:33 | | Do they say, ‘He has improvised it [himself]?’ Rather they have no faith |
| 52:34 | | Let them bring a discourse like it, if they are truthful |
| 52:35 | | Were they created from nothing? Or are they [their own] creators |
| 52:36 | | Did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather they have no certainty |
| 52:37 | | Do they possess the treasuries of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of their dispensation] |
| 52:38 | | Do they have a ladder [leading up to heaven] whereby they eavesdrop? If so let their eavesdropper produce a manifest authority |
| 52:39 | | Does He have daughters while you have sons |
| 52:40 | | Do you ask them for a reward, so that they are weighed down with debt |
| 52:41 | | Do they have [access to] the Unseen, which they write down |
| 52:42 | | Do they seek to outmaneuver [Allah]? But it is the faithless who are the outmaneuvered ones |
| 52:43 | | Do they have any god other than Allah? Clear is Allah of any partners that they may ascribe [to Him] |
| 52:44 | | Were they to see a fragment falling from the sky, they would say, ‘A cumulous cloud.&rsquo |
| 52:45 | | So leave them until they encounter their day on which they will be thunderstruck |
| 52:46 | | the day when their guile will not avail them in any way, nor will they be helped |
| 52:47 | | Indeed for those who do wrong, there is a punishment besides that, but most of them do not know |
| 52:48 | | So submit patiently to the judgement of your Lord, for indeed you fare before Our eyes. And celebrate the praise of your Lord when you rise [at dawn] |
| 52:49 | | and also glorify Him during the night and at the receding of the stars |
