Linda “iLHam” Barto rendition of Surah The Prostration, Worship, Adoration, The Adoration(as-Sajdah)
---
32:1 Alif. Lam. Meem.
32:2 [This is] the revelation of the Book in which there is no doubt. [It is] from the Lord of the Worlds.
32:3 Or do they say, “He has forged it”? No, it is the truth from your Lord so you may admonish a people to whom no warner had come before you. [It is given] so they may receive guidance.
32:4 It was Allah who created the skies and the earth and all among them in six days, and then He established Himself on the throne [of ultimate power]. Besides Him, you have no one who can protect or intercede. Won’t you remember?
32:5 He rules matters from Heaven to Earth. Ultimately, all matters will be referred to Him on a day consisting of a thousand years by your perspective.
32:6 Such is He, the All-knowing of all things, secret and exposed, the Victorious, the Most Merciful.
32:7 He has made everything created in excellence. He began the creation of humanity with clay.
32:8 He made the descendants from an extract of a repulsive liquid.
32:9 He fashioned him/her, and then breathed into him/her from His Spirit. He gave you your senses of hearing, sight, and feeling. Little thanks you give!
32:10 They say, “What? When we are lost to the ground, are we to be a new creation?” No, they do not believe in the meeting with their Lord.
32:11 Say, “The Angel of Death, in charge of you, will take your souls. You will then return to your Lord.”
32:12 If only you could see how the guilty ones will hang down their heads before their Lord! “Our Lord,” [they will plead], “We have seen, and we have heard. Now return us [to the earthly dwelling], and we will live righteously, for now we do believe.”
32:13 If We had willed, We could certainly have brought every soul its guidance. But the Word from Me will come true. I will fill Hell with spirit-beings and with people all together.
32:14 “Taste then because you forgot the meeting of this day of yours. Indeed, We too will forget you. Taste the penalty of eternity for your deeds.”
32:15 The only ones who believe in Our signs are those who fall down in prostration when the signs are recited to them. They celebrate the praises of their Lord. They do not have arrogant pride.
32:16 They forsake [lying on] their sides in their beds while they call on their Lord in fear and hope. They invest out of the sustenance that We have bestowed on them.
32:17 No person knows what delights of the eyes are kept hidden for them as a reward for their deeds.
32:18 Is the person who believes no better than the person who is rebellious? They are not equal.
32:19 For those who believe and live righteously are gardens as hospitable homes in exchange for their deeds.
32:20 As for those who are rebellious, their abode will be the fire. Every time they want to get away from it, they will be forced into it, and it will be said to them, “Taste the penalty of the fire that you rejected as false.”
32:21 We will indeed make them taste the penalty of this worldly life prior to the supreme penalty so that they may repent.
32:22 Who is more wrong than one to whom are recited the verses from his/her Lord and then rejects them? Truly, We will take payment from the sinners.
32:23 Before this, We did indeed give the Book to Moses. Do not doubt then that it has come. We made it a guide to the Children of Israel.
32:24 We appointed leaders from among them, giving guidance under Our command. [We guided them] as long as they were patient and had faith in Our signs.
32:25 Truly, your Lord will judge among them on the Day of Resurrection concerning the matters about which they differ.
32:26 Have they not learned a lesson from how many generations We destroyed before them? They visit the dwellings (of the destroyed generations). Truly, in that are signs. Will they not listen?
32:27 Do they not see that We drive rain to a parched earth and, with it, produce crops providing food for their cattle and themselves? Will they not see?
32:28 They ask, “When will this decision be, if you are telling the truth?”
32:29 Say, “On the Day of Decision, no profit will belief be then to the unbelievers, and they will not be granted a respite.”
32:30 Turn away from them and wait. They too are waiting [whether or not they realize it].
