7:1  Alif. La’am. Meem. Sa’ad.
7:2  A (Glorious) ‘Book’ has been sent down to you. Therefore, let there be no perplexity in your heart concerning it, that you may forewarn thereby, and that it may be an admonition to the ‘Monotheistic Believers’.
7:3  Follow what has been sent down to you by your Lord, and follow no guardians other than Him. How seldom do you keep this in mind!
7:4  How many cities have We destroyed, and Our chastisement came upon them (unexpectedly) by night, or while they were reposing themselves at noon-day.
7:5  Their exclamation, when Our chastisement came upon them, was no other than that they said, "Surely, we have been grossly unfair and morally wrong.”
7:6  We shall definitely question those to whom (Our) ‘Messengers’ were sent ( to guide them into all the truth), and We shall question the ‘Messengers’, (too).
7:7  We shall definitely narrate to them their actions with knowledge, for we have never been absent.
7:8  On that day, the weighing will be true, ( complete & accurate). So as for those whose scale (of good deeds) will be heavy are the ones who ultimately achieve a blissful life/ or gain eternal salvation.
7:9  On the other hand, those whose scales (of good deeds) will be light, They are the ones who are doomed to eternal perdition because they used to act wrongfully towards Our ‘Revelations’.
7:10  Verily, We have established you on the earth; and We have made for you therein livelihoods. So Little you express your gratitude (to Allâh for His endless blessings).
7:11  We have created you, and afterwards formed you; and then said unto the ‘Angels’: "Prostrate yourselves before ‘Adam’!" So they did prostrate except ‘Iblīs’ (Satan). He was not among those who prostrated themselves.
7:12  (The Lord) said: "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?" ‘Iblīs’ (‘Satan’) said: "I am better than him. You have created me of fire while You have created him of clay.”
7:13  (The Lord) said: "Get down from here. You have no right to display an arrogant attitude (towards man) here. Get out! You are indeed of those who are degraded."
7:14  (‘Iblīs’) said, "Grant me a respite til the day when they are raised.”
7:15  (The Lord) said, “Surely, you are of those who are given a respite."
7:16  (Iblīs) said: "Since You have let me go astray, I shall certainly lay wait for men in Your straight path.
7:17  Then I shall definitely come upon them from before and behind, from their right and left. You will find the greater part of them ungrateful.”
7:18  (The Lord) said, "Get out of here, disgraced and expelled! Whoever of them follows you, I will definitely fill Gehenna with you altogether.”
7:19  (The Lord added), “As for you, ‘Adam’, dwell with your wife in ‘Al- Jannah’ and eat from whence you will, but don't you dare to come near this tree lest you both will be of those who are grossly unfair and morally wrong.”
7:20  But the devil, (Iblīs), whispered lies into them in order to make manifest to them that which was concealed from them of their private parts. He said, "Your Lord has forbidden you (to eat from) this tree except that you both become two ‘Angels’ or that you may obtain eternal life.”
7:21  He swore to them (saying): “Surely I am of the sincere advisers to you.”
7:22  So he caused them to fall into temptation. As soon as they tasted of the tree, their private parts became visible to them, and they both began to cover themselves with the leaves of the garden. Their Lord called out to them, “Did I not forbid you ( to eat ) from that tree and tell you that ‘Satan’ is a perspicuous foe to you?"
7:23  They said: "Our Lord, we have wronged our own selves, and if You do not forgive and show clemency toward us, we will definitely be of those who are doomed to eternal perdition."
7:24  (The Lord) said, "Get down, one of you an enemy to the other! You will have a dwelling place on the earth and provision for a while.”
7:25  He added, "Therein you will live, and therein you will die, and thence will you be raised to life.”
7:26  O’ children of ‘Adam’, We have sent down to you raiment to cover your nakedness, and as an adornment. But the raiment of the ‘Unfeigned Piety’ is far better. This is one of the signs of Allâh's (power & glory), that they may be admonished.
7:27  O’ children of ‘Adam’, let not ‘Satan’ tempt you, as he expelled your parents out of ‘Al-Jannah’, stripping them of their clothing, and showing them their nakedness. Certainly, he sees you; he and his tribe, from where you see them not. We have made the devils allies to those who lack faith (in Your Lord).
7:28  When they commit a gross sin , they say, "We found our fathers doing it and Allâh commanded us to do it." (O’ Muhammad say), “Indeed, Allâh would never advocate sin. Do you say against Allâh that which you have no knowledge of it?"
7:29  (O’ Muhammad) say, “My Lord has commanded me to maintain justice.” Therefore, set your faces to pray at every place of worship, and call upon Him (alone), dedicating yourselves to the to the worship and service of almighty Allâh. Just as He originated you in the beginning, so will you return (unto Him).
7:30  Some He has guided: others have been justly led into error, because they have taken the devils for their guardians, besides Allâh, and presume that they they attain spiritual insight.
7:31  O’ children of ‘Adam’, take your adornment whenever you go to the mosque, eat and drink, but avoid extravagance. Indeed, Allâh demonstrates not his own love for the prodigals.
7:32  (O’ Muhammad) say, “Who has forbidden the adornment of Allâh which He has produced for his servants, and the good wholesome food?” Say: "These things are for the benefit and enjoyment of the ‘Monotheistic Believers’ in this ‘worldly life’, but they will be only for them on the ‘Day of Resurrection’.” This is how We distinctly explain Our ‘Revelations’ for a people who have spiritual gift of knowledge.
7:33  (O’ Muhammad) say, “Verily, my Lord has forbidden obscene actions, whether apparent or hidden, sins, and unjust aggression; and that you associate with Allâh anything for which He has given no authority, and utter things about Allâh of which you have no knowledge of it."
7:34  Every nation has a term; so when its term comes, they will not retard it an hour, neither will they advance it.
7:35  O’ children of ‘Adam’, verily ‘Messengers’ from among you will come to you, who will recite to you My ‘Revelations’. Therefore, whosoever acts piously and mends his way, there will come no fear upon them, neither will they ever grieve.
7:36  On the other hand, those who refuse to give credence to our ‘Revelations’ and display an arrogant attitude towards them, will be the companions of inferno where they will abide therein.
7:37  Who can be more grossly unfair than one who keeps on inventing lies concerning Allâh, or refuses to give credence to His ‘Revelations’? To these will be given their portion of worldly pleasures, according to what is written in the Book of Allâh's decrees, until Our Messengers, (the ‘Angel of death’ & his assistants), come to them to take their souls; saying: "Where are those whom you used to call upon, besides Allâh." They will reply: "They have gone away from us. Thus, they will bear witness against their own selves that they refuse to believe in the existence of Allâh.
7:38  (The Lord) will say, “Enter you in the company of (the impious) nations which have preceded you, of jinn and mankind, into the inferno." Every time a nation will enter, it will curse its sister, until, they will all have successively entered therein. The last of them will say to the first of them "Our Lord , these are the ones who misled us, therefore, let them get a double dose of chastisement of Fire. He will say, "Everyone will have double dose but you have no knowledge of it."
7:39  Then, the first will say unto the last of them: "You have no preference over us, so taste the chastisement for that which you used to earn."
7:40  Indeed, those who give no credence to Our ‘Revelations’ and display an arrogant attitude towards them, the gates of heaven will not be opened to them, neither will they enter into ‘Al- Jannah’, until the thick rope goes through the eye of the needle. And this how We will requite the ungodly sinners.
7:41  Their cradle will be in Gehenna, and over them will be coverings of fire. And this how We will requite those who are grossly unfair and morally wrong.
7:42  But those who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, and do righteous acts ( in this ‘worldly life’), - We do not burden any ‘Human Self’ beyond its scope - are the ‘Denizens of ‘Al-Jannah’. And therein they will abide.
7:43  We will remove all grudges from their breasts. Rivers will flow beneath them. And they will say, “All the praises and gratitude belong to Allâh, who has guided us into this (eternal abode of ecstasy). It would have been impossible for us to obtain spiritual insight if Allâh had not guided us (into all the truth). Absolutely, the ‘Messengers’ of Our Lord came to us with the Truth." It will be proclaimed to them, "This is ‘Al- Jannah’ which you have been promised to inherit for what you used to do."
7:44  The ‘Denizens of Al-Jannah’. will call out unto the ‘Denizens of the Hell’, (saying), "We have found that which our Lord had promised us, to be true; Have you also found that which your Lord had promised you, to be true?" They will reply, "Yea, verily." Then a crier will proclaim between them, “The curse of Allâh will be abide in the ones who are grossly unfair and morally wrong.”
7:45  They averted people from the way of Allâh, and sought to render it crooked, while they, concerning the ‘Hereafter’, refuse to believe in its existence.
7:46  Between them shall be a (great) barrier. And on the Heights (between ‘Al- Jannah’ & Gehenna) are men who would know every one by his marks. They call unto the Denizens of Al-Jannah, (saying), "Peace be to you”: they have not entered yet although they earnestly hope to enter.
7:47  When their eyes are turned towards the Denizens of the Hell, they will say, “O Lord, do not place us among the iniquitous."
7:48  The men who stand upon the heights will call to certain men, whom they know by their marks, (saying): “Of no avail were to you, your extensive properties, and your arrogant attitude ( toward Faith).”
7:49  (Allâh will say unto the inhabitants of Gehenna), "Are these the ones whom you had sworn that Allâh would never show clemency? (O’ people of the heights), enter ‘Al- Jannah’, ( you have been delivered from the consequence of your sins). There will come no fear upon you, neither will you ever grieve.”
7:50  The ‘Denizens of the Inferno’ will call out to the ‘Denizens of Al-Jannah’, (saying): "Pour some water upon us, or some of the sustenance (of ‘Al- Jannah’) of which Allâh has provided for you. They will say: "Surely, Allâh has forbidden both to those who refuse to knowledge (the Unity & Oneness of Allâh),
7:51  Who took their religion for an idle sport and pastime, and whom the ‘worldly life’ inveigled. So We are not concerned about them today as they were not concerned about the meeting of this ‘Day’ of theirs, and were acting impiously towards our ‘Revelations’.
7:52  Verily, We brought to them a ‘Book’, ( the ‘Qur’ān’), which We have distinctly explained with knowledge, a source of spiritual insight , and divine clemency for a people who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism.
7:53  Do they wait for any other than the interpretation thereof? On the day whereon the interpretation thereof will come, those who had neglected It before will say, "Verily, the ‘Messengers’ of Our Lord came to us with (ultimate) Truth: Shall we therefore have any intercessors, who will intercede on our behalf? Or could we be sent back to the ‘worldly life’, so that we may do other works different form what we used to do?” Verily, they have lost their own selves, and what they used to mythologize (as gods) has gone away from them.
7:54  Undeniably, your Lord is Allâh who created the heavens and earth in six days; and then ascended the Throne ( of the ultimate power & glory). He causes the night to cover the day, which it pursues constantly. He also created the sun, the moon and the stars, which are absolutely subservient to his command. Indeed, His is the creation and the command. Blessed be Allâh, the Lord of the worlds!
7:55  Call upon your Lord, humbly and in secret; surely, He demonstrates not his own love for those who who keep on trespassing (against the law of Allâh).
7:56  Do not spread corruption on earth after it has been perfectly adjusted. And call to Him with the apprehension (of His wrath), and with hope (of salvation). Surely, the clemency of Allâh is near to those who pursue righteousness.
7:57  He is the One who sends the winds as heralds of joyful news, going before His mercy (i.e. rain) ; until, when they bear a laden cloud, which We drive to a dead land, and We cause water to descend thereon, by which We bring forth all sorts of fruits. This is how We will bring forth the dead from their tombs, so that you may take heed.
7:58  From the good land will its fruit come forth abundantly by the permission of its Lord, but from that which is bad will bring forth nothing but little with greatest difficulty. This is how We distinctly explain the ‘Revelation’ to a people who express their gratitude (to Allâh for His endless blessings).
7:59  Verily, We previously sent ‘Noah’ (as Our Messenger) to his people. He said: "Worship ( & venerate) Allâh. You have no other God than Him. Indeed, I fear for you the doom of a great day!"
7:60  The chieftains of his people said, “We definitely see you in great delusion.”
7:61  He replied: “O’ my people, I do not have a delusional disorder; but I am a ‘Messenger’ from the Lord of all the worlds.
7:62  I convey (& preach) to you the Messages of my Lord, giving you good counsel. And I know from Allâh what you have no knowledge of it.”
7:63  Then do you wonder that an admonition has come to you from your Lord through a man from among you, in order to warn you, that you may act piously, and that you may be delivered from all the consequences of your sins?”
7:64  But they belied him, so We saved him and those who were with him in the ark. And We drowned those who refused to give credence to Our ‘Revelations’. They were definitely (spiritually) blind people.
7:65  To (the people of) ‘Ād' We sent their brother 'Hūd'. He said, "O’ my people worship ( & venerate) 'Hūd'. You have no other God than Him. Will you not act piously (towards Allâh)?”‘
7:66  The chieftains of his people, who excessively indulge in disbelief (in Allâh), said: “Indeed, we presume that you are guided by gross imbecility. And we definitely come to believe that you are of those who contrive lies.”
7:67  He replied: “O’ my people, I am not guided by such gross imbecility. But I am a ‘Messenger’ to you from the Lord of all the worlds.
7:68  I was sent (by Him) to convey (& preach) to you the ‘Messages’ of my Lord and I am a faithful counselor to you, (giving you good advice on how to obtain eternal salvation).
7:69  Then do you wonder that an admonition has come to you from your Lord through a man from among you in order to warn you? Remember when He has appointed you successors to the people of ‘Noah’, and increased you in stature extensively. So recall the blessings of Allâh so that you may achieve eternal salvation.”
7:70  They said, "Have you come to us that we should worship Allâh (Alone), and renounce that which our fathers worshiped? So bring us that wherewith you have threatened us, if you speak the truth.”
7:71  ('Hūd') replied, "Filth and exasperation have already fallen on you from your Lord. Do you dispute with me concerning the names which you have named, and your fathers? Allâh has not sent any authority for them. Therefore, wait, I shall be with you waiting."
7:72  Thus, We saved him, and those who were with him, by Our clemency. And We cut off the uttermost part of those who refused to give credence to Our ‘Revelations’ and to believe (in Allâh).
7:73  To (the people of) Thamūd, We sent their brother ‘Sālih’. He said: "O’ my people worship (& venerate) Allâh (alone). You have no other God than Him. Verily, the full knowledge of the Truth has come to you from your Lord. This she-camel of Allâh is a sign (of His power & glory) to you: Therefore, leave it freely to graze in the land of Allâh ; and do not touch it with hurt, lest a painful doom would seize you.
7:74  Remember when He has appointed you successors to (the people of) ‘Ād', and has given you a habitation on earth. You make mansions on its plains and hew out houses in the mountains. So recall (the endless) blessings of Allâh, and spread not corruption on the earth.”
7:75  The chieftains of his people, who display an arrogant attitude, said unto those whom they scorned, unto those among them who became monotheistic believers: “Do you really know that ‘Sālih’ has been sent from his Lord?” They replied: “We certainly believe in that wherewith he has been sent.”
7:76  Those who display an arrogant attitude (towards the monotheistic believers) said: “Verily, we are not going to give credence to the belief which you adopt.”
7:77  Thus, they cruelly hamstrung the she-camel, and insolently transgressed the command of their Lord, and said: "O’ ‘Sālih’, bring us that with which you have threatened us if you are of the ‘Messengers’ of Allâh.”
7:78  Consequently, the earthquake seized them. Thus, they became motionless bodies at their homes.
7:79  And he turned away from them and said, "I conveyed to you, my people, the ‘Message’ of my Lord, and gave you good counsel. But you had no love for those who seek to give good counsel."
7:80  (Mention) Lot, when he said unto his people: ”Do you commit an obscenity which no one in this world dared to do before you?
7:81  Indeed, you approach lustfully to men instead of women. Nay, you are people going beyond the bounds of moral principles.
7:82  But the response of his people was naught except that they said: "Drive them out of our town. Certainly, they are people who would like to keep themselves pure and immaculate.”
7:83  Thus We saved him and his family, except for his (sinful) wife. She was one of those who stayed behind.
7:84  And We rained upon them a (terrifying) rain. Thus , behold, how (dreadful) was the outcome of the ungodly sinners.”
7:85  And, We sent, to (the people of) Midian their brother ‘Shu‘ayb’. He said, "O’ my people, worship (& venerate) Allâh (alone). You have no other God than Him. Verily, the the full knowledge of the Truth has come to you from your Lord. Give full measure, do not underestimate (the value of) the property of the people, neither do spread corruption on the earth after it has been perfectly adjusted. This will be far better for you, if you are willing to accept (Allâh into your life).
7:86  Lurk not on every road, threatening, averting from the way of Allâh, those who believe in Him, and seeking to make it crooked. Remember when you were few, and He multiplied you. Behold, how (dreadful) was the outcome of those who spread corruption.
7:87  "And if there is a party among you who believes in that wherewith I have been sent, and a party which does not believe, then persevere in patience and constancy until Allâh judges between us. He is the perfect judge."
7:88  The chieftains of his people who display an arrogant attitude said "We shall definitely drive you out, O Shuʿayb, and those who have adopted your belief, from our town, unless you will return to our creed." He said, “What! Even though we loathe it!
7:89  If it happens that we return to your creed after Allâh has saved us, then we will definitely confess that we have been fabricating a lie against Allâh. It is not incumbent on us to return thereto except that Allâh, our Lord, should so will. Our Lord comprehends all things in His Knowledge. We depend on Allâh with full trust. So, Our Lord, decide between us and our people with truth , for You are the best of those who make decision.”
7:90  The chieftains of his people who excessively indulge in disbelief (in Allâh) said unto their own people: “If it happens that you follow Shuʿayb, then you will indeed become of the losers."
7:91  Consequently, the earthquake seized them. Thus. they became motionless bodies at their homes.
7:92  Those who belied ‘Shu’ayb’ became as though they had never resided there. Those who belied ‘Shu’ayb’ were indeed the sons of eternal perdition.
7:93  And he turned away from them and said, "I conveyed to you, my people, the ‘Message’ of my Lord, and gave you good counsel. Why should I grieve over a people who had been excessively indulging in disbelief (in Allâh) ?”
7:94  Never did We send a ‘Prophet’ to any town but We did afflict its people with adversity and hardship so that they may humble themselves.
7:95  Then changed we the evil condition to good until they grew affluent and began to say, “Our fathers (too) had been touched by adversity and prosperity.” Thus, We seized them quickly and unexpectedly, while they were not aware of (the perils of arrogance & disbelief).
7:96  If only the people of those towns had believed in ( Unity and Oneness of Allâh) and acted piously, We would have definitely opened out for them (contentious) blessings from the heavens and earth. But they belied (the ‘Messengers’). Thus. We seized them for what they had earned.
7:97  Did the people of those towns feel secure from the coming of Our wrath by night while they were asleep?
7:98  Or did the people of those towns feel secure from the coming of Our wrath in the forenoon while they play?
7:99  Did they think that they were secure from the plan of Allâh? No one is secure from the plan of Allâh except those who are doomed to perish.
7:100  Does it not lead those who have inherited the earth in succession to its former inhabitants to absorb that if We will, We can easily punish them (also) for their sins and seal up their hearts, so that they would not be able to hear?
7:101  These towns, We relate to you their tales, the ‘Messengers’ (of Allâh) came to them with the full knowledge of the truth, but they refused to believe in that which they had rejected before. Thus, does Allâh seal up the hearts of those who do lack faith in Him. .
7:102  We found not in most of them any observance of covenant; indeed, We found most of them to be sons of disobedience.
7:103  Then, after them, We sent ‘Moses’ (as Our ‘Messenger’) with Our Signs (of power & glory) to ‘Pharaoh’ and his chiefs, but they wrongfully rejected them. Behold, then, how (dreadful) was the outcome of those who spread corruption (on earth).
7:104  ‘Moses’ said: "O’ ‘Pharaoh’, I am indeed a ‘Messenger’ from the Lord of the all the worlds.
7:105  It is incumbent on me to say not about Allâh except the truth. I have come unto you with the full knowledge of the Truth from your Lord; therefore, let the ‘children of Israel’ go with me.”
7:106  ‘Pharaoh’ replied: "If you have indeed come with a (miraculous) sign (from the Lord), then produce it, if you are of the truthful."
7:107  Thus, he cast his staff; and suddenly it turned into veritable serpent.
7:108  And he drew forth his hand (from his armpit after placing it therein), it was glittering white in the eyes of the beholders.
7:109  The chiefs of ‘Pharaoh’ said: “Indeed! This (man) is certainly an expert magician.
7:110  He seeks to drive you out of your land (by his sorcery). Therefore, what do you suggest?"
7:111  They said: "Give him and his brother respite, and (in the meantime) send forth heralds to all cities,
7:112  To bring to your presence every expert magician.”
7:113  Thus, the magicians came to ‘Pharaoh’ and said: "We shall certainly obtain a (big) reward, if we become victors, shall we?"
7:114  He said, "Yes, indeed. You will then be among the closest senior advisors to me."
7:115  They said: “O’ ‘Moses’, either you throw first or we will be the first to throw!"
7:116  ‘Moses’ replied: “You can throw first.” When they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, struck them with awe and produced a mighty sorcery.
7:117  We revealed unto ‘Moses’: "Throw your staff!" At once it swallowed up all what they simulated.
7:118  Thus, the truth was established and whatever they did, proved vain.
7:119  They were vanquished on the spot, and completely humiliated.
7:120  Consequently, the magicians were impelled to fall down prostrate.
7:121  Saying: "We believe in the Lord of all the worlds.
7:122  The Lord of ‘Moses’ and ‘Aaron’.”
7:123  (‘Pharaoh’) said: “You have believed in him before I gave you the permission. Certainly, this is an evil plan which you have planned in the city in order to drive out its inhabitants, but you will soon come to know the consequences (of your evil plan).
7:124  I will most definitely have your hands and feet cut off alternately, and then I will definitely have you crucified all together."
7:125  They said: "No harm! Verily, we are bound to return unto our Lord.
7:126  You take vengeance on us only because we gave credence to the signs of our Lord, when they came to us. Our Lord, pour forth upon us patience and constancy, and cause us to die as the ones who submit (themselves completely to the authority of Allâh, the Lord of all the worlds)."
7:127  And the chiefs among the people of ‘Pharaoh’ said," "Will you, (O’ ‘Pharaoh’), leave ‘Moses’ and his people to cause corruption in the land, and renounce you and your gods?" He said: "We will kill their male children and preserve their females alive. Surely, we can (easily) overpower them."
7:128  ‘Moses’ said to his people: "Seek help from Allâh and persist in patience and constancy. Indeed, the earth belongs unto Allâh. He gives it as a heritage to whomsoever He wills of His servants. And the (happy) outcome is in the favor of the ‘Pious’ (who guard themselves against falling into temptation or sin) .”
7:129  They said: “We were persecuted before you came to us and even after you came to us.” He said: "It may be that your Lord will cause your enemy to perish and make you successors on the earth, so that He may see how you will act."
7:130  We afflicted the clan of ‘Pharaoh’ with years of draught and scarcity of fruits, that they may be mindful.
7:131  But whenever good befell them, they said: "This is due to us." If evil afflicted them, they would attribute it to evil augury of ‘Moses’ and those with him. Now, surely, the cause of their misfortune was with Allâh. But most of them do lack the knowledge ( of Allâh’s power & glory).
7:132  They said to ‘Moses’, "No matter what kind of a (miraculous) sign you may show us in order to cast a spell on us and gain control over us by magic, we are not inclined to believe in you.
7:133  Then We sent upon them the cataclysm, the locust, the lice, the frogs and the blood. All of these were prominent signs (of Allâh's power & glory). But they continued to display an arrogant attitude (towards Allâh"s authority). They were a folk of ungodly sinners.
7:134  Every time the requital fell upon them, they said: "O' ‘Moses’! Implore and pray for us to your Lord due to that which He has promised to you. If it happens that He removes from us this filth, we will definitely believe you, and will definitely permit the ‘Children of Israel’ to go with you.”
7:135  But Every time We removed the filth from them for a term which they should attain, lo! They broke their promise.
7:136  Thus, We executed great vengeance upon them and drowned them in the sea, because they refused to give credence to our ‘Revelations’, not paying close attention to the warning signs.
7:137  We caused the people who were considered weak to inherit the eastern parts of the land and the western parts thereof, which We blessed. The honorable word of your Lord was fulfilled for the ‘Children of Israel’ because of that which they patiently endured. We completely destroyed what ‘Pharaoh’ and his people had wrought and what they had built.
7:138  We brought the ‘Children of Israel’ across the sea, and they came upon a people who were devoted to their idols. They said: "O’ Moses, make for us a god just as they have gods." He said: “Indeed, you are a people who do lack knowledge of (Allâh) !"
7:139  (‘Moses added’): “Certainly, all that these people are engaged in will be destroyed, and all that they do will be in vain."
7:140  He said: "Shall I seek for you a god, other than Allâh, when He has preferred you above the worlds?”
7:141  (Remember) when We delivered you from the clan of ‘Pharaoh’ who afflicted you with dreadful torment, slaughtering your sons and sparing your women. Therein was a great trial for you from your Lord.
7:142  We appointed for ‘Moses’ thirty nights, and supplemented them with ten. Thus, he completed the whole time appointed by his Lord of forty nights. ‘Moses’ said to his brother, ‘Aaron’: "Take my place among my people in my absence, seek to reconcile between them and do not follow the way of those who indulge in corruption.
7:143  And when ‘Moses’ came (to Mount Sinai) at the set time that We appointed, and his Lord spoke unto him, he said: “My Lord, show Yourself to me so that I may look at You.” Allâh replied: "You will not be able to see Me. But look at the mountain! If it happens that it remains firm in its place, then you will see Me." When His Lord manifested Himself on the mountain, He made it crumble and ‘Moses’ fell down unconscious. When he recovered, he said: "Glory be to You; I turn unto You in repentance. And I am the first of those who believe (in the Unity & Oneness of Allâh, the Lord of all the worlds)."
7:144  Allâh said: "O’ ‘Moses’, I have chosen you above the people by My Messages and by My Word. So take firm hold of that which I have given you and be of the grateful."
7:145  We wrote for him upon the ‘Tablets’ about everything an admonition, and an explanation of all things. So hold them fast and enjoin your people to take the better therein. I shall show you the abode of the sons of disobedience.
7:146  I shall cause those who display an arrogant attitude (towards Allâh’s authority) without reason on the earth to turn away from My Signs, even if they see all the Signs ( of Allâh's power & glory), they will not believe in them. And if they see the path of integrity, they will not adopt it as their way. But if they see the path of error, they will adopt it as their way. That is because they refuse to give credence to Our ‘Revelations’, not paying close attention to the warnings.
7:147  Those who denied Our ‘Revelations’ and the meeting of the ‘Hereafter’, their deeds are in vain. Do they expect to be requited with anything except for what they used to do?
7:148  After (‘Moses’ had left them to meet with his Lord), his people made of their ornaments the image of calf (for worship), which gave a mooing sound. Did they not see that it could neither speak to them nor guide them to the (right) path? They took it for worship; and they were grossly unfair and morally wrong.
7:149  However, when they repented, and saw that they had erred, they said: “If it should happen that our Lord did not show clemency toward us and deliver us from all the consequences of our sins, then we would be definitely be of those who are doomed to eternal perdition.”
7:150  When Moses returned to his people, furious and disappointed, he said: “Evil is that which you did in my place in my absence. Did you hasten on the judgment of your Lord?" He cast down the ‘Tablets’, and seized his brother by the head, dragging him towards himself. ‘Aaron’ said: “O’ son of my mother, the people surely reckoned me weak; and they were about to kill me. Therefore, let not the enemies rejoice over my misery and place me not with the iniquitous people.”
7:151  ‘Moses’ said: “My Lord, forgive me and my brother, and admit us into Your (divine) Clemency, for you are the Most Merciful of those who show mercy."
7:152  Indeed, those who took the calf (for worship) will obtain wrath from their Lord and humiliation in this ‘worldly life’. This is how We requite those who contrive lies.
7:153  And those who committed evil deeds and afterward repented and believed- your Lord after all that is indeed Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
7:154  When the anger of ‘Moses’ subsided, he took up the ‘Tablets’, and in their inscription was a source of spiritual insight and clemency for those who showed honor and reverence for their Lord.
7:155  ‘Moses’ chose of his people seventy men for Our Appointment. So when the earthquake overtook them, he said: "My Lord, if it had been Your will, You could have destroyed, long before, them and me. Will you destroy us for that which the spiritual blind among us have done? It is only Your trial by which You lead astray whom You will, and guide whom You will. Thus, redeem us from our sins, and show clemency toward us, for You are the Best of those who forgive.
7:156  Ordain for us (that which is) good in this ‘worldly life’, and in the ‘Hereafter’. Indeed, we have turned unto you with repentance." (The Lord replied): “I will inflict My chastisement on whom I will; but My clemency encompasses all things. Thus, I will ordain it for those who act piously, and give (willingly) the Zakāt (i.e. the prescribed purifying alms), and for those who give credence to Our ‘Revelations’.
7:157  Those who follow the ‘Messenger’, the ‘Unlettered Prophet’, whom they find mentioned in the ‘Torah’ and the ‘Gospel’ which are with them. He enjoins upon them what is good and forbids them what is wrong, makes lawful for them the good wholesome things, prohibits for them the evil and removes from them their burdens and shackles that were upon them. So those who believe in him, honor and support him, and follow the light which has been sent down with him, such are the ones who will ultimately achieve a blissful life/ or gain eternal salvation.
7:158  (O’ Muhammad) say: “O’ mankind, indeed, I am a ‘Messenger’ to all of you from Allâh unto whom belongs the (absolute) sovereignty of the heavens and of the earth. There is no god but Him. He gives life and He causes death.” Therefore, believe in Allâh and His ( Blessed) Messenger, the ‘Unlettered Prophet’ who believes in Allâh and His words. Thus, (O’ mankind), follow him so that you may be rightly guided (into all the truth).
7:159  Of the people of ‘Moses’, there was a community which guides by truth, and establishes justice by it.
7:160  We divided them into twelve tribes, distinct nations. And We revealed unto ‘Moses’ when his people asked him for water, saying, "Strike the rock with your staff”; and from it there gushed forth twelve springs. Each tribe knew their drinking place. We caused the clouds to overshadow them, sent down for them manna and quails, and said, "Eat of the good wholesome things We have provided for you." They wronged Us not, but it was their own selves that they wronged.
7:161  (Mention) when it was said unto them: "Dwell in this town and eat from it wherever you desire , and say: “O Allâh, lighten our burden”, and enter the gate in humility. We shall forgive you your sins; and surely We shall give increase to those who pursue righteousness.
7:162  But those who were grossly unfair and morally wrong among them changed it for a word other than that which was said unto them. Thus, We sent upon them a plague from heaven, for their persistent in sin.
7:163  Ask them (O’ Muhammad) about the town which stood by the sea: how its people were violating the ‘Sabbath’ when their fish came to them on their ‘Sabbath’ day appearing on the surface of the water, but on the day when they did not keep the ‘Sabbath’, they did not came to them. Thus, did We try them because of that which they intentionally disobey.
7:164  When a group among them said unto another group: "Why do you admonish people whom Allâh is about to destroy or chastise with a severe chastisement?" They replied: “In order to be absolved from blame before your Lord and that they may act piously.”
7:165  When they forgot all that with which they had been admonished, we rescued those who forbade evil, and We seized those who were grossly unfair and morally wrong with very distressing torment because of that which they intentionally disobey.
7:166  When they insolently rebelled against that which they had been forbidden, We said to them: “Be you despicable apes."
7:167  And (remember) when your Lord declared that He would certainly rise against them, to the ‘Day of Resurrection’, those who would afflict them with an agonizing punishment. Surely, your Lord is swift in retribution and surely He is also Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful
7:168  We broke them up into different parties on this earth. There are among them some that are righteous, and some that are opposite. We tried them with good and bad things so that they might revert to righteousness.
7:169  Then there came after them an (evil) posterity who inherited the ‘Scripture’. They take the paltry goods of this ‘wordily life’, saying: "It will be forgiven us." But if there came to them similar goods again, they would take them. Did they not make a covenant to uphold the ‘Scripture’, that they would not say of Allâh anything but the truth? Did they not study the ‘Scripture’? The abode of the ‘Hereafter’ is better for those who act piously. Do you they not possess self- awareness (that allows you to understand)?
7:170  As for those who hold fast to the ‘Book’ and establish the regular Prayer, certainly, We shall never let the reward of the reformers go to waste.
7:171  (Remember the time) when We shook the mountain over them as though it were a canopy and they thought it was going to fall on them. We said: "Hold firmly to that which We have given you and remember what is therein so that you may act piously.
7:172  (Remember) when your Lord brought forth from the ‘Children of Adam’- out of their loins- their offspring and made them to bear witness against their own selves saying: "Yea, we do testify." Thus, He did lest you should say on the ‘Day of Resurrection’, “Surely we were not aware of this."
7:173  Or lest you should say: “It was only our fathers who associated co-partners with Allâh in the past and we were merely descendants after them. Will you then chastise us for what those who denied the truth did?”
7:174  This is how We distinctly explain Our ‘Revelations’ so that they may revert to righteousness.
7:175  Recite, (O’ Muhammad), to them the anecdote of one (among the ‘Children of Israel’) to whom We vouchsafed Our Signs, but he endeavored to detach them. Thus, ‘Satan’ followed him up and he became of those who go astray.
7:176  Had We willed, We would definitely have exalted him thereby; but he clung to the earth and took in his self-deceived beliefs for the epistemic. His case, therefore, is like the case of a thirsty dog; if you drive him away, it hangs out its tongue and if you leave it, still it hangs out his tongue. Such is the case of the people who refuse to give credence to Our ‘Revelations’. Thus, relate to them the tales so that they may ruminate (on this Glorious ‘Qur’ān’).
7:177  Evil is the likeness of the people who refuse to give credence to Our ‘Revelations’; for it is against their own selves that they deliberately keep on sinning.
7:178  Whomsoever Allâh guides is the guided one. Whomsoever He sends astray, such are the sons of eternal perdition.
7:179  Verily, We have allocated many men and jinn for Gehenna. They have hearts wherewith they don’t understand (neither do they distinguish the truth from falsehood), they have eyes wherewith they see not, and they have ears wherewith they hear not. They are like cattle; nay, they are even more astray. They are the ones who are spiritually blind.
7:180  Unto Allâh belong the most ‘Honorable Names’. Thus, call on Him by these ‘Honorable Names’. Leave alone those who act impiously towards his ‘Honorable Names’. They will be chastised for what they used to do.
7:181  Of those We have created, there is a community that seeks to guide others with truth and with it they are persistent in their pursuit of justice.
7:182  Those who refuse to give credence to Our ‘Revelations’, We will lead them step by step into ruin, whence they cannot expect;
7:183  And I will give respite (them). Indeed, My stratagem will prove effectual.
7:184  Do they not reflect? There is nothing of insanity about their companion. He is not more than a perspicuous warner.
7:185  Do they not look into the sovereignty of the heavens and earth, and into all things that Allâh has created? (Do they not consider ) that it may well be that their appointed time has already drawn near? Then in what proclamation after this will they come to profess a belief (in Allâh)?
7:186  Whomsoever Allâh sends astray, none can guide him. He leaves them alone in their contumacy, blindly wandering on.
7:187  They ask you, (O’ Muhammad), about the ‘Inevitable Hour’: "When it will come to pass?" Say: "The knowledge thereof is only with my Lord. No one can manifest its time but He. Heavy is its burden through the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except all of a sudden." They ask you as if you were well-acquainted therewith. Say: "The knowledge thereof is only with Allâh. But most people know not.”
7:188  (O’ Muhammad), say: “I possess no power of benefit or harm to myself except as Allâh wills. If I had the knowledge of the unseen, I should have abundance of wealth, and adversity would not have touched me. I am only a warner a Herald to a people who are willing to profess a belief (in Allâh).”
7:189  He is the one who created you from a single ’Human Self’ (‘Adan’) and made from it its mate (‘Eve’) , in order that he might find comfort in her. When he covers her, she bears a light burden, and then moves about with it. When she grows heavy, they both implore and pray to Allâh, their Lord, saying: “If it happens that you vouchsafe us a righteous child, we will be among the grateful.”
7:190  But when He vouchsafes them a righteous child, they set up with Him associates in that which He has given them. Allâh is Highly Exalted far above what they associate with Him.
7:191  Do they associate with Him partners those who create nothing, and are themselves created?
7:192  Neither can they help them, nor can they help themselves.
7:193  If it happens that you provide a means for them to receive spiritual insight, they will not follow you. It is all the same for you whether you provide a means for them or you remain silent.
7:194  Those whom you call upon, besides Allâh, are creatures like you. Then call upon them and let them respond to you, if you are truthful.
7:195  Do they have feet wherewith they walk, or have they hands wherewith they hold, or have they eyes wherewith they see, or have they ears wherewith they hear? Say: “Call upon your associate-gods and then plot against me and give me no respite.
7:196  Indeed, my Guardian is Allâh who has revealed the ‘Book’ (the Glorious ‘Qur’ān’). He protects the righteous.
7:197  And those whom you call upon besides Him cannot help you, nor can they help themselves.”
7:198  If it happens that you provide a means for them to receive spiritual insight, they are not willing to listen to you. You could see them looking towards you, but they do not see.
7:199  Show forgiveness, enjoin kindness, and shun the ignorant ( who are spiritually blind).
7:200  If an incitement from the devil incites you, then seek refuge in Allâh. Surely, He is All-Hearer, All-Knowing.
7:201  Verily, those who act piously, whenever any evil suggestion from ‘Satan’ touches them, they celebrate the praises of (Allâh) and declare His infinite glory. Then behold, they begin to see things clearly.
7:202  The brethren (the wicked ones) draw them into error and then they do not relax their vigorous attempts.
7:203  When you bring not to them a (miraculous) sign, they say: "Why have you not brought it?" Say: "I follow only that which is revealed unto me from my Lord. This (Glorious 'Qur’ān') is spiritual insight from your Lord, a guidance (into all the truth) and a (divine) clemency for a people who are inclined to believe (in Allâh).”
7:204  When this (Glorious) 'Qur’ān' is recited, listen to it attentively and remain silent, so that you may be delivered from all the consequences of your sins.
7:205  Remember your Lord in your mind with humility and reverence, and in a low voice in the mornings and evenings; and be not of those who are neglectful.
7:206  Surely those who are near to your Lord (the ‘’Angels’), turn not away with pride from His worship, but they celebrate His Praise and declare His infinite glory, and prostrate themselves before Him.
