66:1  O Prophet, why do you consider forbidden that which Allah has made lawful for you just to satisfy your wives? Allah is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.
66:2  Allah has provided for you a release from your oaths. Allah is your protector. He is the All-knowing, the Perfectly Wise.
66:3  When the Prophet told a secret to one of his wives, she told someone. Allah let (the Prophet) find out. He acknowledged part of it and avoided another part. He told her (what he found out). She said, “Who told you about it?” He said, “I was informed by the All-knowing, the Fully Aware.”
66:4  If both of you would turn in repentance to Him, then let your hearts be so inclined. If you encourage each other against (the Prophet), truly Allah is his protector. Gabriel is also [his protector] as well as the righteous believers. In addition, the angels will support him.
66:5  It may be that, if he divorced you all, Allah would give him better wives than you. [They would] submit, believe, be devout, repent, worship, and fast. [They could be] previously married or virgins.
66:6  O Believers, save yourselves and your families from a fire with fuel of humans and brimstone. It is a fire over which are stern, severe angels. They do not flinch at the commands they receive from Allah, but do exactly what they are told.
66:7  [The angels will say:] “O Unbelievers, make no excuses this day. You are only being rewarded for all that you did.”
66:8  O Believers, turn to Allah with sincere repentance in the hope that your Lord will cover your sins and admit you to gardens beneath which rivers flow. On that day, Allah will not permit the humiliation of the Prophet and those who believe with him. Their light will radiate before them and from their right hands as they pray, “Our Lord, perfect our light and grant us forgiveness, for You have power over all things.”
66:9  O Prophet, struggle hard against the unbelievers and the hypocrites. Be stern with them. Their abode is Hell –a wretched goal.
66:10  Allah offers an example for the unbelievers: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. They belonged to two of Our righteous servants. They betrayed (their husbands), and they gained nothing before Allah because of their actions. They were told, “Enter the fire along with all those who enter.”
66:11  Allah offers an example for the believers: the wife of Pharaoh. She said, “My Lord, build for me, near to You, a home in Paradise. Save me from Pharaoh and his actions. Save me from the sinners.”
66:12  [Another example is] Mary, a daughter of Imran, who guarded her chastity. We breathed into her of Our Spirit. She testified to the truth of the words of her Lord and of His revelations. She was one of the devout.
