5:1  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, fulfill your covenants. Livestock animals are made lawful to you as food, except for that which is recited to you (in this Glorious 'Qur’ān'). Hunting is not lawful for you during ‘Pilgrimage’ or 'Umrah’. Indeed, Allâh ordains whatever He chooses.
5:2  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, do not violate the sanctity of rituals of Allâh, or the ‘Sacred Month’, or the offerings, or the garlanded, or those repairing to the ‘Sacred House’ seeking the grace and pleasure of their Lord. When you are free from the duties of ‘Pilgrimage’, then you can go for hunting. Do not let your hatred of a folk- because they hindered you from entering into the ‘Sacred Mosque’ - lead you to commit aggression. Thus, cooperate with each other on righteousness and piety and collaborate not with each other on iniquity and transgression. Indeed, Allâh is extremely severe in punishment.
5:3  Forbidden to you for food are carrion, blood, the flesh of swine, the meat of animal of that which has been offered a sacrifice to other than Allâh (or on which the name of Allâh has not been mentioned while slaughtering), or that which is strangled to death, or that which is beaten to death, or that which has a fatal fall, or that which is gored by horns, or that from which the wild animal has eaten, except for what you are able to slaughter it before dying, or that which is sacrificed on stone altars. It is forbidden also to use arrows seeking luck or decision as this is grave disobedience. This day, those who indulge excessively in disbelief (in Allâh) have given up all hope of your faith. Therefore, fear them not, but show honor and reverence for Me. This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My Favor upon you; and I have chosen for you Islam as a religion. Consequently, whoever is forced by severe hunger with no intention of sinning, then (he must know that) Allâh is absolutely Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
5:4  They ask you, (O’ Muhammad), what is made lawful for them as food? Say (unto them), "It is made lawful for you to eat wholesome good food, and that which you have trained the birds and beasts of prey to catch. You train them according to what Allâh has taught you, so eat from that which they catch for you, pronounce the name of Allâh over it and act piously toward Allâh. Indeed, Allâh is extremely swift in reckoning."
5:5  This day all wholesome good things are made lawful for you. The food of those who have obtained the ‘Scripture’ (Jews & Christians) is made lawful for you, and your food is made lawful for them. It is made lawful for you (to wed) the chaste women from the ‘Monotheistic Believers’ and chaste women from those who have obtained the Scripture (the ‘Jews’ & the ‘Christians’) revealed before your time. Thus, (You can wed them) when you give them their due dowers in case you desire chastity, not seeking to commit lewdness or secret intrigues. Whosoever renounces his faith ; his deeds are worthless, and he will be among those who are doomed externally to perish in the ‘Hereafter’.
5:6  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, when you intend to perform Prayers, wash your faces, your forearms to the elbows, lightly rub your heads, and do wash your feet to the ankles. If it happens that you are in a state of ceremonial impurity, then you must wash your whole body. But if you are ill, or on a journey, or one of you comes from the privy, or you have been in contact with women, and you find no water, then seek wholesome dust and wipe your faces and your hands with it. Allâh does not intend to let you experience hardship, but He intends to purify you, and to complete His Favor upon you so that you may express your gratitude (to Him for His endless blessings).
5:7  Remember the favor of Allâh upon you and the covenant with which He bound you when you said: "We hear and comply (with everything Allâh has commanded)." Subsequently, act piously towards Allâh. Indeed, Allâh is All-knowing of that within the hearts.
5:8  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, be persistently standing firm for Allâh , witnesses in justice, and let not the hatred of a people prevent you from being fair. Act fairly and proportionately, that is nearer to unfeigned piety. Subsequently, act piously toward Allâh. Indeed, Allâh is Completely Aware of what you do.
5:9  Allâh has promised those who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism and do righteous acts ( in ‘this worldly life’) that they will have forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. ‘Al-Jannah’).
5:10  But those who indulge excessively in disbelief (in Allâh)., and refuse to give credence to Our ‘Revelations’ will be the ‘Denizens of the Gehenna’.
5:11  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, remember the favor of Allâh to you when some people determined to stretch out their hands against you, He restrained their hands from you. Subsequently, let the ‘Monotheistic Believers’ depend on Allâh with full trust.
5:12  Verily, Allâh took the covenant from the ‘Children of Israel’, and We raised up among them twelve leaders. Allâh said: "I am with you if it happens that you establish the regular Prayer, pay Zakāt (i.e. the prescribed purifying alms) and believe in My ‘Messengers’ while honoring and assisting them, and giving Allâh a good loan, I would definitely deliver you from all the consequences of your sins, and admit you into Gardens underneath which rivers flow. But whoever among you becomes impious after this, he has definitely gone astray from the virtuous path."
5:13  As a result of their breach of their covenant, We cursed them, and caused their hearts to grow hard. They alter the words from their genuine context and fail to look after a portion of that whereof they were admonished. You will always continue to witness a deceptive action from their part except that of a few. Thus, forgive and show clemency toward them. Indeed, Allâh demonstrates his own love for those who attain perfection in Righteousness/or in Faith.
5:14  Likewise, We also took a covenant from those who call themselves ‘Christians’, but they too have failed to look after a portion of that whereof they were admonished. For that reason, We stirred among them enmity and hatred, which will continue to exist up until the ‘Day of Resurrection’. Lo! Allâh will soon inform them of what they used to do.
5:15  O’ ‘People of the Scripture’, (Jews & Christians), indeed Our ‘Messenger’ has come to you to clarify for you much of what you used to conceal from the ‘Scripture’ and to pass over much which is no longer substantial. Verily, there has come to you from Allâh Light, (& enlightenment), and the most remarkable ‘Book’, (this Glorious 'Qur’ān').
5:16  Wherewith Allâh guides (into all the truth) all those who pursue His good pleasure to paths of peace, brings them out of darkness into light by His decree, and guides them into a straight path.
5:17  Verily those who say, “Allâh is indeed the ‘Messiah’, ‘son of Mary’.” have abandoned their (unfeigned) Faith. Say, (O’ Muhammad unto them): "Who possesses the power to prevent Allâh if He intends to cause the ‘Messiah’, ‘son of Mary’, to perish, as well as his mother, and all those who are on the earth together?" Unto Allâh, belongs the (absolute) sovereignty of the heavens, the earth and all that is between them. He creates whatever He wills. Allâh is capable of doing whatever He wills.
5:18  Both the ‘Jews’ and the ‘Christians’ say: "We are the children of Allâh and His loved ones." Say: “Why, then, does He chastise you for your sinful and immoral acts?” Nay, you are not more than human beings among those whom He has created. He forgives and shows clemency on whom He wills, and chastises whom He wills. Unto Allâh, belongs the (absolute) sovereignty of the heavens, the earth and all that is between them. And unto Him is the definitive course.
5:19  O’ ;People of the Scripture’, indeed Our ‘Messenger’ has come to you to clarify for you (some religious matters) after a cessation of the ‘Apostles’ lest you say: “There has not come to us neither any herald (to brings glad tidings of how to attain eternal salvation), nor a warner (to give sufficient warning about how to avoid Hellfire). Indeed, there has come to you a herald and a warner. Allâh is capable of doing whatever He wills.
5:20  (Mention) when ‘Moses’ said unto his people: "O’ my people, remember the favor of Allâh upon you when He raised ‘Prophets’ among you , made you kings, and gave you what He had not given anyone among the worlds.
5:21  O’ my people, enter the ‘Holy Land’ which Allâh has appointed to you. Turn not in flight, lest you turn back as losers.”
5:22  They said: "O’ ‘Moses’, it is indeed inhabited by people of great might and power, and we will not dare to make entry unless they depart from it. If it happens that they depart from it, then we will definitely make entry.”
5:23  Then two men of those who show honor and reverence for Allâh , and on whom Allâh bestowed His favor, said: “Enter in upon them by the gate, for when you have entered it, you will definitely be victorious. Therefore, depend on Allâh with full trust if you are inclined to profess a belief (in Allâh).”
5:24  They said: "O’ ‘Moses’, we shall never enter it as long as they are there. Thus, go, you and your Lord, and fight. We are definitely going to sit here."
5:25  ‘Moses’ said: “O’ my Lord, I have no authority over anyone, except over my brother and myself, so separate us from the sons of disobedience.”
5:26  The Lord said, "Indeed, the land will certainly be forbidden them for forty years, (during which) they will wander in the earth perplexed. So grieve not over the sons of disobedience.
5:27  (O’ Muhammad) recite to them ( the ‘Jews’ & the ‘Christians’) the incident of the two sons of ‘Adam’ (‘Cain’ and ‘Abel’) when they both offered an offering, and it was accepted from one of them and was not accepted from the other. He said: “Indeed, I am going to kill you." (The other) said: "Allâh accepts only from those who are ‘Pious’(who show honor and reverence for Allâh).
5:28  But if it happens that you stretched out your hand against me so as to kill me, I will not stretch out my hand against you so as to kill you. Indeed, I show honor and reverence for the Lord of all the worlds.”
5:29  Indeed, I intend to let you bear the burden of my sins as well as yours, so you will be among the ‘Denizens of Hell’. This is (the divine) chastisement for the ones who keep on falling into sin.
5:30  His ego induced him to kill his own brother. Subsequently, he killed him and became of those who are doomed to eternal perdition.
5:31  Then Allâh sent a raven, which scratched the earth in order to show him how to bury the naked corpse of his brother. He says: "O’ woe is me! Am I unable to be like this raven, that I may bury the naked corpse of my brother? Thus, he became of those who express sincere regret.”
5:32  For that reason, We prescribed for the ‘Children of Israel’ that whoever kills a human being, unless it is in punishment for murder or for spreading corruption in the earth, it will be as if he killed all mankind. In the meantime, whoever saves a life; it will be as if he saved the whole of mankind. Verily, Our ‘Messengers’ came to them with full knowledge of the Truth, even then after that many of them became prodigals on the earth.
5:33  The rightful chastisement of those who wage war against (the religion of) Allâh and His ‘Messenger’, and endeavor to spread corruption on the earth, is that they should be murdered, or crucified, or their hands and feet should be cut off on opposite sides, or be expelled from the land. This will be their ignominy in this ‘worldly life’, and in the ‘Hereafter’, they will subjected to an extremely dreadful doom,
5:34  Except for those who express sincere regret before they fall into your power. In that case, you must know that Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
5:35  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, act piously towards Allâh , seek to come closer to Him, and strive hard in His cause, so that you my ultimately achieve a blissful life/or gain eternal salvation.
5:36  Indeed, those who persist in disbelief (in Allâh) - if they had all that is on the earth, and twice as much again and offered it to ransom their own selves from the (divine) penalty of the ‘Day of Resurrection’, it would not be accepted from them. Theirs will be an extremely painful doom.
5:37  They will have a strong wish to get out of the Inferno but they will never ever get out from there, and theirs will be a permanent doom.
5:38  The thief, male or female, who persists in stealing, cut off (from the wrist joint) the (right) hand as a retribution for what they have gained, an exemplary punishment from Allâh. He is All-Vigorous, All-Wise.
5:39  But whosoever expresses sincere regret after his wrongdoing and strives to amend his ways, then (he must know that) Allâh will forgive and show clemency towards him. Indeed, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
5:40  Are you unaware that unto Allâh belongs the (absolute) sovereignty of the heavens and of the earth? He forgives and shows clemency on whom He wills, and chastises whom He wills. Allâh is capable of doing whatever He wills.
5:41  O’ ‘Messenger’, let not those who blindly hasten towards disbelief ( in Allâh) distress you, of such as say with their mouths: "We profess a belief (in the Unity & Oneness of Allâh)," but their hearts have not attained to Faith. Of the ‘Jews’ who listen to mendacity, listening to other folk, who have not come to you, altering the words from their genuine context, saying: "If you are given this, then you must take it, but if you are not given this, then you must beware!" Whosoever Allâh intends to lead him into temptation, you will never have (the power to save) him against the (wrath) of Allâh. Those are the ones whose hearts Allâh intends not to purify. For them is ignominy in this ‘worldly life’, and for them an extremely dreadful doom in the ‘Hereafter’.
5:42  They show a keen interest in listening to mendacity and in devouring whatever is forbidden. So, if it happens that they come to you, (O’ Muhammad), then you can judge between them or you can turn away from them. However, if you decided to turn away from them, then they could never harm you at all. Subsequently, if you (decided to) judge, then judge with justice between them. Indeed, Allâh demonstrates his own love for those who treat people fairly and consistently.
5:43  How could it be possible to ask you to judge between them while they have the ‘Torah’ in which is the judgment of Allâh? Yet they turn back after that. These are the ones who are tempted to disbelieve ( in Allâh).
5:44  Indeed, We sent down the ‘Torah’ (unto ‘Moses’) in which was spiritual insight and light. The ‘Prophets’, who submitted (themselves completely to the authority Allâh), used to judge by it for the ‘Jews’. So did the Pious Preachers and Rabbis as they were required to preserve the ‘Scripture’ of Allâh; and they were witnesses thereto. Therefore, let not the fear of people overtake you, but beware of My wrath and exchange not My ‘Revelations’ for a small price. Whoever judges not according to what Allâh has revealed, they are (indeed) the Faithless people.
5:45  We ordained therein for them: Life for life, eye for eye, nose for nose, ear for ear, tooth for tooth, and for wounds retribution. But whoever remits the retribution as alms, it will be considered as atonement for him. Whoever judges not according to what Allâh has revealed, they are (indeed) the iniquitous.
5:46  We also caused ‘Jesus son of Mary’, to follow in the footsteps of those earlier ‘Prophets’, authenticating (the divine law) of the ‘Torah’ which was sent down before him. And we gave him the ‘Gospel’ containing divine insight and light, authenticating also (the divine law) of the ‘Torah’ which was given before it as a source of spiritual insight and admonition for the ‘Pious’(or to those who show reverence & obedience Allâh/ or to those who guard themselves against falling into temptation or sin).
5:47  Let, then, the people of the ‘Gospel’, judge according to what Allâh has revealed therein. Whoever judges not according to what Allâh has revealed, they are the sons of disobedience.
5:48  We have also sent down unto you (O’ Muhammad) the ‘Book’, (this Glorious 'Qur’ān') with truth, authenticating the ‘Scripture’ that came before it, and preserving the same safe from corruption. Thus, judge between them according to what Allâh has revealed, and take not in their self-deceived beliefs for the epistemic by swerving from the knowledge of truth that has come to you. To every one of you, We have prescribed a (divine) law, and a particular method. Had Allâh willed, He could have made you one community, but (His divine wisdom is) to try you in what He has given you respectively. Therefore, compete eagerly with each other in virtuous deeds, as you are all bound to return unto Allâh. Eventually, He will inform you of that in which you used to differ.
5:49  Thus, judge between them according to what Allâh has revealed, and take not in their self-deceived beliefs for the epistemic, but beware of them, lest they tempt you to swerve you from some of that which Allâh has revealed unto you. If they are tempted to turn away, ( then be sure) Allâh intends to chastise them for some of their sins. Indeed, most of the people are sons of disobedience..
5:50  What! Do they endeavor to maintain the judgment of the time of ignorance? But who is better than Allâh in judgment for a people who have have a definite faith.?
5:51  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, take not the ‘Jews’, or the ‘Christians’ as allies. They are but allies of one another. However, whoever among you takes them as allies has become one of them. Indeed, Allâh will not illuminate the path of those who deliberately keep on sinning.
5:52  Yet you can see those in whose hearts there is an infirmity hastening towards them, saying: “We fear lest a turn of fortune would impinge us." But perhaps Allâh will bring conquest or a command from Him, so they will express sincere regret about that which they stored secretly in their hearts.
5:53  Those who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism will say: “Are these the ones who swore by Allâh with their strongest oaths that they were with you?" Their works have become null and void, and they have become among those who are doomed to eternal perdition.
5:54  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, whoever of you apostatizes from his faith, then (he must know that) Allâh will bring other people whom He will love, and who will love Him; who will be humble towards the ‘Monotheistic Believers’, but stern towards those who do lack faith (in Allâh). They will strive hard for (serving) the cause of Allâh, and will not fear the fury and vitriol of the reproacher. This is the bounty of Allâh which He bestows on whom He wills. Allâh is All-Encompassing, All-Knowing.
5:55  Indeed, your guardian is Allâh, and also His ‘Messenger’, and the ‘Monotheistic Believers’ who establish the regular Prayer, pay Zakāt (i.e. the prescribed purifying alms), and bow down to worship.
5:56  Whoever chooses Allâh, and His messenger, and the Monotheistic Believers to be his guardians, (needs to know that) the party of Allâh will certainly be the triumphant.
5:57  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, do not take the ones who take your religion in ridicule and fun from among those to whom the ‘Scriptures’ were delivered before you, nor those who do lack Faith ( in Allâh) (as friends or allies), and act piously towards Allâh if you are (really) ‘Monotheistic Believers’ ( of unfeigned faith).
5:58  When the call is proclaimed to Prayer, they take it in ridicule and fun. That is because they are a people who possess no self- awareness that allows them to understand.
5:59  Say: "O’ ‘People of the Scripture’, (Jews & Christians), do you denounce and revile us for any other reason than because we profess a belief (in the Unity & the Oneness of) Allâh, and in the ‘Revelation’ which has been sent down to us and in that which has been sent down before us, and that most of you walk in the path of disobedience?
5:60  (O’ Muhammad), say: "Shall I inform you of something worse than this, as to the chastisement which you are going to have from Allâh? Among (the ancient ‘Jews’) who incurred the curse of Allâh and His wrath, those of whom (some) He transformed into apes and pigs, those who worshiped the devil (or the mythological deities) are in worse plight , and further astray from from the established course. “
5:61  When they come to you, they say: "We profess a belief (in the Unity & the Oneness of Allâh)." Yet they entered into your company with unbelief, and went forth from you with the same. But Allâh is Fully Aware of what they have stored secretly within themselves.
5:62  You can see many of them hastening to sin and transgression, and eating of things forbidden. Evil indeed is that which they have been doing.
5:63  Why do not the Pious Preachers and Rabbis forbid them from uttering evil words and from eating things forbidden? Evil indeed is that which they have been practicing.
5:64  And the ‘Jews’ say: “The hand of Allâh is tied up." May their own hands be shackled, and may they be anathematized for what they say. Nay, both His Hands are widely outspread. He expend as He wills. Indeed, the ‘Revelation’ which has been sent down unto you from your Lord will increase tyranny and disbelief of many of them. We have cast among them enmity and hatred until the ‘Day of Resurrection’. So often as they will kindle a fire for war, Allâh will extinguish it. And they seek to spread corruption on the earth, but Allâh demonstrates not his own love for those who seek to spread corruption.
5:65  If only the ‘People of the Scripture’ (Jews & Christians) had believed (in the truth about the Prophethood of Muhammad) and acted piously, We would definitely have delivered them from all the consequences of their sins, and admitted them into the Gardens of Delight.
5:66  If only they had established (the divine law of) the ‘Torah’, the ‘Gospel’, and what had been revealed unto them from their Lord, they would definitely have eaten of good things both from above them, and from under their feet. Among them, there is a party on the right course, but how evil is that which many of them do!
5:67  O’ ‘Messenger’, convey, (preach and promulgate the message) which has been sent down unto you from your Lord. And if it happens that you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. Allâh will establish and guard you against the (wicked) people. Indeed, Allâh will not illuminate the path of those who do lack faith (in Him).
5:68  Say, (O’ ‘Muhammad’): "O’ ‘People of the Scripture’, (Jews & Christians), you follow nothing unless you establish (the divine law of) the ‘Torah’, the ‘Gospel’, and what has been revealed unto them from your Lord. Indeed, the ‘Revelation’ which has been sent down unto you from your Lord will increase tyranny and disbelief of many of them. Thus, don’t grieve yourself too much for those who do lack faith (in Allâh).
5:69  Indeed, those who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism and those who are ‘Jews’, ‘Sabians’ and ‘Christians’, whoever of them believes in (the unity and oneness of) Allâh and the ‘Last Day’, and does righteous deed, there will come no fear on them, neither will they ever grieve
5:70  Verily, We took the covenant of the ‘Children of Israel’, and sent Our ‘Messengers’ to them. Whenever a ‘Messenger’ came to them with what they themselves did not desire, some of them they denied , and others they killed.
5:71  They assumed there would be no trail. Thus, they became blind, and deaf. Then Allâh turned unto them in forgiveness. Afterwards many of them again became blind and deaf. Allâh is the All-Seer of all what they do.
5:72  They have certainly blasphemed (against Allâh), who say: “Allâh is indeed the ‘Messiah’, son of Mary,” while ‘Christ’ himself said: "O’ ‘children of Israel’, worship Allâh, my Lord and your Lord." Indeed, he who associates others with Allâh (must know that) Allâh will exclude him from ‘Al-Jannah’, and his habitation will be Gehenna. Those who deliberately keep on sinning will have none to help them.
5:73  They have certainly blasphemed (against Allâh), who say: “Allâh is indeed the third of three,” when here is no God, besides one God. If they do not refrain from what they say, an extremely painful doom will definitely be inflicted on those who persist in disbelief (in the Unity & Oneness of Allâh).
5:74  So will they not turn towards Allâh in repentance, and seek His forgiveness? And Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
5:75  ‘Christ, son of Mary’, is not more than a ‘Messenger’, like the other ‘Messengers’ who have preceded him. His mother was a veracious woman of integrity. They both eat food. Look how We show them clearly (and impartially) the signs; and then look how they are deceived ( into going away from the established course.
5:76  Say, (O’ Muhammad): "How could you worship besides Allâh, that which possesses for you neither harm nor profit? But Allâh is the One who is the All-Hearer, All-Knowing."
5:77  Say, (O’ Muhammad): "O’ ‘People of the Scripture’, (Jews & Christians), exceed not the limits in your religion beyond the truth and do not follow the self-deception of a people who have gone astray before, and who misled many, and have gone astray from the virtuous path."
5:78  Those among the ‘Children of Israel’ who refused to profess belief (in the Unity & the Oneness of Allâh) were anathematized by the tongue of ‘David’, and of ‘Jesus, son of Mary’. (This befell them) because they refused to comply (with what Allâh has commanded) and used to transgress.
5:79  They did not prohibit one another from wrongdoing that they did. Evil indeed was that which they used to do. (in Allâh)
5:80  You can see many of them taking those who do lack Faith (in Allâh) as their guardians. Evil indeed is that which their own selves have sent before them. For that reason the wrath of Allâh abides upon them, and they will remain in the doom forever.
5:81  However, if they had believed in (the unity & oneness of) Allâh, in the ‘Prophet’, and in that which has been revealed unto him, they would not have dared to take them as their guardians. But many of them are walking in the path of disobedience.
5:82  You will certainly find the most intense of the people in animosity towards those who adhere to Islamic monotheism are the “Jews” and those who associate others with Allâh. And you will find the nearest of them in affection to those who adhere to a belief are the ones who say: "We are indeed ‘Christians." That is because there are priests and monks among them; and because they do not display an arrogant attitude (towards Faith).
5:83  When they hear what has been revealed to this ‘Messenger’, you could see their eyes overflowing with tears, because of the truth which they have recognized. They say: "Our Lord, we adhere to faith, so write us down among the witnesses;
5:84  And why should we not believe in Allâh and in the truth which has come to us? We earnestly hope that our Lord would enroll us among the righteous people?
5:85  Therefore, Allâh will reward them for what they said with Gardens beneath which rivers flow. Therein they will abide. Such is the reward of those who attain perfection in Righteousness /or in Faith
5:86  But those who excessively indulge in disbelief (in Allâh), and give no credence to Our ‘Revelations’ are the ‘Denizens of the Inferno’.
5:87  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, do not forbid the wholesome good things which Allâh has made lawful for you, and do not to transgress. Indeed, Allâh demonstrates not his own love for the transgressors.
5:88  Eat of the things which Allâh has provided for you, lawful and wholesome, and act piously towards Allâh in whom you believe.
5:89  Allâh will not call you to account for that which is unintentional in your oaths, but He will call you to account for breaking the oaths which you take in earnest. The atonement thereof, then, is the feeding of ten poor persons with such average food as you feed your own families with, or the clothing of them or the freeing of a slave. But whosoever finds not the means will have to Fast for three days. This is the atonement of your oaths when you have sworn. Keep your oaths! This is how Allâh shows you clearly his ‘Revelations’ so that you may be grateful.
5:90  O’ you who adhere firmly to monotheism, the intoxicants, the game of chance, (sacrifices at) altars and divining arrows are only the abomination of ‘Satan’. So shun each one of them so that you may ultimately achieve a blissful life/or gain eternal salvation.
5:91  The devil (‘Satan’) intends only to create enmity and hatred among you by means of intoxicants and game of chance, and to keep you back from celebrating the Praises of Allâh and declaring His indefinite glory, and from Prayer. So, will you not then refrain?
5:92  Obey Allâh and the Messenger, and be cautious and alert. But if it happens that you turn away, then you must know that the duty of Our ‘Messenger’ is to convey clearly and openly the Message.
5:93  Those who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism and do righteous act would not be at fault in what they ate (in the past) if they act piously, and do righteous acts, and again they act piously toward Allâh and profess a belief (in the Unity & Oneness of Allâh), yet again act piously and pursue righteousness. Lo! Allâh demonstrates his own love for those whose heart is perfect towards Him.
5:94  O’ who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, Allâh will certainly try you in respect of some game which your hands and lances can reach, so that Allâh may identify the one who shows honor and reverence for Him in secret. Whosoever, therefore, transgresses after this, will have an extremely painful doom.
5:95  O’ who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, kill not game while you are in a state of ‘Pilgrimage’. Whosoever among you kills it intentionally, its indemnification is a quadruped like to that which he has killed, as determined by two just men from among you, as an offering to be brought to ‘Ka’bah’, or as an atonement, he must feed a number of needy people, or the equivalent of that in fasting, so that he may taste the consequence of his deed. Allâh has pardoned what is past. But whoever reverts to it, Allâh will take retribution from him.
5:96  It is made lawful for you to hunt and to eat (fish) of the sea as a provision for you and for the travelers, but it is forbidden to you to hunt as long as you are in the state of ‘Pilgrimage’. Therefore, act piously towards Allâh to whom you are (destined) to be gathered.
5:97  Allâh has appointed the ‘Ka'bah’, the ‘Sacred House’, to be an establishment for mankind, and the sacred month, and the offering, and its garlands. That you may know that Allâh knows all that is in the heavens and on the earth, and that Allâh is the All-Knowing of all things.
5:98  Know that Allâh is extremely severe in punishment and that Allâh is also Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
5:99  The sole duty of the ‘Messenger’ is to convey ( & promulgate the message). Allâh knows whatever you disclose and whatever you conceal.
5:100  Say, (O’ Muhammad): "Not equal are the malicious and the wholesome, even though the abundance of malicious things may please you." Therefore, act piously towards Allâh, O’ men of intellect, so that you may ultimately achieve a blissful life/ or gain eternal salvation.
5:101  O’ who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, do not ask about things which, if they are made known to you, would cause you trouble, though if you ask about them while the 'Qur’ān' is being sent down, then they will be made known to you. Allâh has left them out on purpose. Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Forbearing.
5:102  A people before you asked about such things, some more later on they abandoned their faith.
5:103  Allâh has not ordained any 'Bahīra' (a she-camel whose milk was spared for the mythological deities and nobody was allowed to milk it) or 'Sā’iba' (a she-camel let loose for free pasture for their mythological deities and nothing was allowed to be carried on it) or ‘Wasīla' (a she-camel set free for the mythological deities because she has given birth to a she-camel at its first delivery and then again gives birth to a she-camel at its second delivery) or 'Hām' (a stallion-camel freed from work for their mythological deities. But those who those who do lack faith in (Allâh) invent lies against Allâh, and most of them do not possess self- awareness that allows them to understand.
5:104  When it is said unto them: "Come to that which Allâh has revealed and to the ‘Messenger’," They say: ”Sufficient for us is that wherein We found our fathers." What! Even though their fathers knew nothing, or sought not to attain spiritual insight.
5:105  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, keep yourselves safe. He who goes astray cannot harm you when you yourselves are rightly guided. Eventually, you are all (destined) to return unto Him, then He will inform you of what you used do.
5:106  O’ you who adhere firmly to Islamic monotheism, testimony should be taken among you when death draws nigh to one of you, at the time of making the will, two just persons from among you, or two others from among others than you, if it happens you are travelling through the land and the calamity of death befalls you. If you have doubt (about their testimony), detain them after their Prayer and let them swear by Allâh (saying): “We will not exchange our oath for any price, even if it should be a relative, and we would not hide the testimony of Allâh, for then we would surely be of the sinful." towards Allâh.
5:107  But if afterwards it gets known that these two were guilty of the sin of perjury, let two others stand forth in their places, from among those who are the most deserving, nearest in kinship, and they both swear an oath by Allâh (saying): "We affirm that our testimony is more rightful than the testimony of the other two, and that we have not trespassed the truth, for then indeed we should be among the those who are grossly unfair and morally wrong.
5:108  Thus, it is more likely that they will bear true witness or fear that other oaths will be taken after their oaths. Act piously towards Allâh and listen attentively (to that which you are admonished). Allâh will not illuminate the path of sons of disobedience.
5:109  They day will come when Allâh gathers the ‘Messengers’ together and say unto them: "What response did you receive?" They will answer, "We have no knowledge. Indeed, you are best Knowing of the unseen.”
5:110  Allâh will say: "O’ ‘Jesus son of Mary’, remember My Favor upon you and upon your mother when I invigorated you with the ‘Spirit of Holiness’ so that you would be able to speak unto the people in the cradle, and when of middle age; and when I taught you the ‘Scripture’, the wisdom, the ‘Torah’ and the ‘Gospel’, and when you fashioned a creation out of clay, in the likeness of a bird, by My Permission, then you breathed into it a new spirit , and it became a bird by My Permission, and you were able to heal the night-blind and the leprous by My Permission, and when you raised the dead by My permission, and when I restrained the ‘Children of Israel’ from putting you to death when you came to them with the full knowledge of the Truth. And those who lack faith in (Allâh) from among them said: “This is nothing but an appreciable sorcery (and devilry).”
5:111  (Remember) when I inspired the ‘Disciples’ to believe in Me and in My ‘Messenger’, they said: 'We profess a belief (in the Unity& Oneness of Allâh), and bear witness that we have submitted ourselves (entirely to the authority of Allâh).
5:112  (Remember) when the ‘Disciples’ say: "O’ ‘Jesus, son of Mary’, is your Lord capable of sending down to us a ‘Table Spread’ with food from heaven? He said: “Act piously towards Allâh if you were (indeed) believers (of unfeigned faith).”
5:113  They said: "We desire to eat from it, in order that our hearts may attain a definite faith and we may know that what you have told us is the truth, and that we may be thereby among the witnesses."
5:114  ‘Jesus, son of Mary’, said: "O’ Allâh, our Lord! Send down for us a ‘Table Spread’ with food from the heavens, that it may be to us a festival, to the first of us and to the last of us, and a sign ( of Allâh's power and glory) from you, and provide sustenance for us, for you are the Best of Sustainers.”
5:115  Allâh said: "I am going to send it down unto you; but whosoever of you fall into disbelief (in the Unity& Oneness of Allâh) afterwards- I will definitely chastise him with a chastisement by which I have not chastised anyone among the worlds."
5:116  Allâh will Ask (‘Jesus’ on the ‘Day of Judgment’): "O’ ‘Jesus, son of Mary’, did you tell the people to worship you and your mother as two gods besides Allâh? He will answer: "All Glory and Perfection be to You! I could never say that which I had no right. If I had said it, you would have definitely known it. You know what is in inner self while I do not know what is in Yours. It is You alone who are the Knowing of all hidden things.
5:117  I said nothing to them except that which you commanded me to say: ‘Worship (& venerate) Allâh, my Lord and your Lord’ and I was a witness of them so long as I was among them, but since you caused me to die, You have been the Watcher over them, and you are a Witness to all things.
5:118  If You intend to chastise them, then they are certainly Your servants. And if You intend to deliver them from all the consequences of their sins, then You are certainly the One who is All-Mighty, All-Wise."
5:119  Allâh will say: "This is the day when only the truthful will profit by their truthfulness”. For them are Gardens beneath which rivers flow; therein shall they abide. Allâh is well pleased with them, and they are well pleased with Him; that indeed is the most ultimate success and the supreme one.
5:120  Unto Allâh belongs the (absolute) sovereignty of the heavens, of the earth and of whatsoever is therein, and He is capable of doing whatever He wills!
