14:1  Alif, Laam, Raa. This is the Book that We have revealed to you, in order that you might lead humanity out of the depths of darkness into the light, by the permission of their Lord, to the way of Him, the Almighty, the Praiseworthy
14:2  It is God to Whom belongs all things in the heavens and on earth, but unfortunately for the unbelievers, their disbelief will bring them a terrible penalty
14:3  Those who love the life of the present more than the future, who hinder others from the path of God, and who seek therein something crooked. They are far astray
14:4  We did not send a messenger except to teach in the language of their people, in order to make things clear to them. And God leaves those to stray whom He pleases, and guides whom He pleases, and He is Exalted in Power, Full of Wisdom
14:5  We sent Moses with Our signs, “Bring your people from the depths of darkness into light, and teach them to remember the Days of God.” Indeed in this there are signs for those who are firmly patient and constant, grateful and appreciative
14:6  Remember Moses said to his people, “Call to mind the favor of God to you, when He delivered you from the people of Pharaoh. They gave you hard work and punished you, slaughtered your sons, and let your females live. This was a tremendous trial from your Lord.
14:7  And remember, your Lord caused to be declared, “If you are grateful, I will give you more, but if you show ingratitude, truly My punishment is terrible indeed.
14:8  And Moses said, “Do not show ingratitude, you and all those on earth, but God is free of all wants, worthy of all praise
14:9  Has the story not reached you of those who went before? Of the people of Noah, ‘Ad, Thamud, and of those after them? None knows of them but God. To them came messengers with clear signs, but they put their hands up to their mouths and said, “We deny the mission which you have been sent, and we are really in suspicious doubt as to that which you invite us.
14:10  Their messengers said, “Is there any doubt about God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth? It is He Who invites you in order that He may forgive you your sins, and give you respite for a term appointed.” They said, “You are no more than human, like us. If you wish to turn us away from the gods our parents used to worship, then bring us some clear authority.
14:11  Their messengers said to them, “True, we are human beings like you, but God grants His grace to whichever of his servants He pleases. It is not for us to bring you an authority except as God permits, and on God let all people of faith put their trust
14:12  “No reasons do we have why we should not put our trust in God. Indeed He has guided us to the ways we follow. We will certainly bear with patience all the hurt you may cause us, for those who are trusting should put their trust on God.
14:13  And the unbelievers said to their messengers, “We will certainly drive you out of our land, or you will return to our way.” But their Lord inspired this message to them, “Indeed We will cause the wrongdoers to perish
14:14  “And indeed We will cause you to live in the land and succeed them. This is for those who fear the time when they will stand before My tribunal, those who fear My punishment.
14:15  Although they sought victory, disappointed was every powerful, obstinate dictator
14:16  In front of them is hell, and he is given for drink foul water
14:17  In gulps will he drink it, but never will he be near swallowing it. Death will come to him from every angle, yet he will not die, and in front of him will be an unrelenting chastisement
14:18  The parable of those who reject their Lord is that their works are as ashes, on which the wind blows furiously on a tempestuous day. No power do they have over anything that they have earned, that is a straying far and away
14:19  Do you not see that God created the heavens and the earth? In truth, if He wills, He can remove you and put in your place a new creation
14:20  Nor is that for God any great matter
14:21  They will all be brought before God together. Then the weak will say to those who were arrogant, “We followed you, can you then avail us against the punishment of God?” They will reply, “If we had received the guidance of God, we would have given it to you. For us it makes no difference whether we rage, or bear it with patience, for us there is no way to escape.
14:22  And Satan will say when the matter is decided, “It was God Who gave you a promise of truth. I too promised, but I failed in my promise to you. I had no authority over you except to call you, but you listened to me. So do not blame me, but blame your own selves. I cannot listen to your cries, nor can you listen to mine. I reject your previous act of associating me with God, for wrongdoers there must be a terrible penalty.
14:23  But those who believe and work righteousness will be admitted to gardens with rivers flowing through them, to dwell therein forever by the permission of their Lord. Their greeting there will be “Peace.
14:24  Do you not see how God sets forth a parable? An excellent word is like an excellent tree, whose roots are firmly fixed, and its branches reach to the heavens of its Lord. Thus God sets forth parables for humanity, in order that they may receive advice
14:25  It brings forth its fruit at all times, by the leave of its Lord. So God sets forth parables for humanity, in order that they may receive advice
14:26  And the parable of an evil word is that of a harmful tree. It is torn up by the roots from the surface of the earth. It has no stability
14:27  God will establish in strength those who believe with the word that stands firm, in the present and in the hereafter, but God will leave to stray those who do wrong. God does what He wills
14:28  Have you not turned your vision to those who have changed the favor of God into blasphemy, and caused their people to descend to the House of Perdition
14:29  Into hell, they will burn therein, a miserable place to live
14:30  And they set up others as equal to God, to mislead the people from the path. Say, “Enjoy, because indeed you are heading to hell.
14:31  Say to my servants who have believed, that they should establish prayer, and give out of the sustenance we have given them, secretly and openly, before the coming of a day in which there will be neither bargaining nor befriending
14:32  It is God Who has created the heavens and the earth, and sends down rain from the skies, and with it He brings out fruits with which to feed you. It is He Who has made the ships subject to you, that they may sail through the sea by His command, and the rivers has He made subject to you
14:33  And He has made subject to you the Sun and the Moon, both diligently pursuing their courses, and the night and the day has he made subject to you
14:34  And He gives you all that you ask for, even if you count the blessings of God, never will you be able to number them, indeed humanity is given to injustice and ingratitude
14:35  Remember Abraham said, “O my Lord, make this city one of peace and security, and save me and my sons from worshipping idols
14:36  “O my Lord, they have indeed led astray many among humanity. Then he who follows my ways is like me, but he who did not follow me, well, You are indeed Oft-Forgiving, Mercifully Redeeming
14:37  “O our Lord, I have made some of my offspring to dwell in a valley without cultivation, by Your sacred house, in order O Our Lord, that they may establish prayer. So fill the hearts of some among humanity with love towards them, and feed them with fruits so that they may give thanks
14:38  “O Our Lord, truly You know what we conceal and what we reveal, for nothing is hidden from God, whether on earth or in heaven
14:39  “Praise God, Who has granted to me in old age Ishmael and Isaac, for truly my Lord is He, the Hearer of Prayer
14:40  “O my Lord, make me one who establishes prayer, and among my offspring, O Our Lord, and accept my prayer
14:41  “O our Lord, cover with Your forgiveness, me, my parents, and all believers on the day that the reckoning will be established
14:42  Think not that God does not heed the deeds of those who do wrong. He only gives them respite for a day when the eyes will fixedly stare in horror
14:43  They run forward with necks outstretched, their heads uplifted, their gaze returning not towards them, and in their hearts, a void
14:44  So warn humanity of the day when the punishment will reach them. Then the wrongdoers will say, “Our Lord, respite us for a short-term. We will answer Your call, and follow the messengers.” “What, had you not sworn before, to no end
14:45  “And you lived in the dwellings of people who wronged their own souls. You were clearly shown how We dealt with them, and We put forth parables for you.
14:46  Mighty indeed were the plots which they hatched, but their plots were within the Sight of God, even though they were enough to shake the hills
14:47  Never think that God would fail His messengers in His promise, for God is Exalted in Power, the Lord of Retribution
14:48  One day the earth will be changed to a different earth, and so will the heavens, and the people will be brought out before God, the One, the Irresistible
14:49  And you will see those who are corrupt that day, bound together in chains
14:50  Their garments of liquid pitch, and their faces covered with fire
14:51  That God may repay each soul according to what it deserves, and indeed God is swift in calling to account
14:52  Here is a message for humanity. Let them take warning from it, and let them know that He is One God. Let the people of understanding take heed
