| Transliteration | Wa-innee khiftu almawaliya min wara-ee wakanati imraatee AAaqiran fahab lee min ladunka waliyyan |
| Literal | And that I, I feared the followers/dependents from behind/beyond me, and my woman (wife) was infertile to grant/present for me from at you a follower/friend . |

| Literal | You Zacharias/Zachary , that We, We announce good news to you with a boy , his name (is) John/Yahya , We did not make for him from before (an) equivalent/equivalent in height/position . |

| Literal | He said: "My Lord that how (could there) be for me a boy and my woman (wife) was infertile and I had reached from the old age exceeding the limit?" |

| QXP | Zachariah exclaimed, "My Lord! How can I have a son when my wife is barren and I am already infirm with old age?" |
| Maulana Ali | He said: My Lord, how shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I have reached extreme old age? |

| Qaribullah | 'How shall I have a son, Lord, ' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years? ' |

| Literal | He said: "Like that." Your Lord said: "It is on Me easy/light , and I had created you from before, and you were not a thing." |

| Yusuf Ali | He said: "So (it will be) thy Lord saith, 'that is easy for Me: I did indeed create thee before, when thou hadst been nothing!'" |

| Literal | He said: "My Lord, make/put for me a sign/evidence." He said: "Your sign/evidence (is) that you do not converse/talk (to) the people three nights straight ." |

| Yusuf Ali | (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." |

| Transliteration | Fakharaja AAala qawmihi mina almihrabi faawha ilayhim an sabbihoo bukratan waAAashiyyan |
| Literal | So he emerged on (to) his nation, from the center of the assembly/the prayers' niche , so he inspired/transmitted/signaled to them that praise/glorify (at) daybreaks/early mornings and evenings/first darkness/dinnertime. |

| Yusuf Ali | So Zakariya came out to his people from him chamber: He told them by signs to celebrate Allah's praises in the morning and in the evening. |
| Pickthal | Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night. |
| Arberry | So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' |

| Malik | After this Zakariya came out of the shrine and asked his people, through sign language, to glorify Allah in the morning and in the evening.[11] |
| QXP | Then Zachariah came out from the shrine and told his deputies by signs, "Keep striving in your mission morning and evening that his Glory be manifest to beholders." |
| Maulana Ali | So he went forth to his people from the sanctuary and proclaimed to them: Glorify (Allah) morning and evening. |

| Literal | You John/Yahya, take The Book with power/strength, and We gave/brought him the judgment/rule (as) a boy/child/infant. |

| Yusuf Ali | (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, |

| Sarwar | We commanded John, Zachariah's son, to follow the guidance of the Lord with due steadfastness. To John We gave knowledge and wisdom to John during his childhood. |

| Literal | He said: "'Like that,' said your Lord, it is on Me easy/light , and to make/put him (as) a sign/evidence to the people, and mercy from Us, and (it was) a matter/command accomplished/ executed .'" |

| Hilali/Khan | He said: "So (it will be), your Lord said: That is easy for Me (Allah): And (We wish) to appoint him as a sign to mankind and a mercy from Us (Allah), and it is a matter (already) decreed, (by Allah). " |
| H/K/Saheeh | He said, "Thus [it will be]; your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, and We will make him a sign to the people and a mercy from Us. And it is a matter [already] decreed.' " |
| Malik | The angel replied: "So shall it be -Your Lord says: `It is easy for Me. We wish to make him a Sign for mankind and a blessing from Us’ - and this matter has already been decreed."[21] |
| QXP | The angel answered, "Thus it is; but your Lord says, 'It is easy for Me, so that We make him a symbol for people and a grace from Us. (A symbol of belief and disbelief, with the grace of Revelation). And it is a thing decreed." (3:46-47). |

| Literal | So the labour/childbirth came to her to (at) the palm tree's trunk/stem, she said: "Oh I wish I would have died before this and I was forgotten (and long) forgotten." |

| Yusuf Ali | And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm-tree: She cried (in her anguish): "Ah! would that I had died before this! would that I had been a thing forgotten and out of sight!" |
| Pickthal | And the pangs of childbirth drove her unto the trunk of the palm-tree. She said: Oh, would that I had died ere this and had become a thing of naught, forgotten! |

| Khalifa | The birth process came to her by the trunk of a palm tree. She said, "(I am so ashamed;) I wish I were dead before this happened, and completely forgotten." |
| Hilali/Khan | And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a date-palm. She said: "Would that I had died before this, and had been forgotten and out of sight!" |
| H/K/Saheeh | And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree. She said, "Oh, I wish I had died before this and was in oblivion, forgotten." |
| Malik | The pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm-tree. She cried in her anguish: "Ah! Would that I had died before this, and been long forgotten!"[23] |
