al-Mursalat 077:001

‏77:1 سورة المرسلات بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ والمرسلات عرفا

Transliteration	Waalmursalati AAurfan
Literal	And/by the messengers/sent/angles (F) , successively/sand dunes/elevated points .

Yusuf Ali	By the (Winds) sent forth one after another (to man's profit);
Pickthal	By the emissary winds, (sent) one after another
Arberry	By the loosed ones successively
Shakir	I swear by the emissary winds, sent one after another (for men's benefit),
Sarwar	By (the angels) sent forth with the commands of God,
Khalifa	(Angels) dispatched in succession.
Hilali/Khan	By the winds (or angels or the Messengers of Allah) sent forth one after another.
H/K/Saheeh	By those [winds] sent forth in gusts
Malik	By the emissary winds, which are sent forth one after another.[1]
QXP	Witness are these Messages (to the Sublime Truth), sent forth one after another.
Maulana Ali	By those sent forth to spread goodness!
Free Minds	By the winds which are sent.
Qaribullah	By (the wind) those sent (as horses') mane (in succession),

George Sale	By the angels which are sent by God, following one another in a continual series; and those which move swiftly,

Asad	CONSIDER these [messages,] sent forth in waves

al-Mursalat 077:002

‏77:2 فالعاصفات عصفا

Transliteration	FaalAAasifati AAasfan
Literal	So the stormy/turbulent winds , violently/turbulently.

Yusuf Ali	Which then blow violently in tempestuous Gusts,
Pickthal	By the raging hurricanes,
Arberry	storming tempestuously
Shakir	By the raging hurricanes,
Sarwar	by (the angels) as swift as blowing winds,
Khalifa	To drive the wind.
Hilali/Khan	And by the winds that blow violently,
H/K/Saheeh	And the winds that blow violently
Malik	By the raging hurricanes.[2]
QXP	As they gain strength like a tempest.
Maulana Ali	Then those driving off the chaff!
Free Minds	Then the gusts that blow.
Qaribullah	storming tempestuously

George Sale	with a rapid motion,
JM Rodwell	And the swift in their swiftness;

Asad	and then storming on with a tempest's force!

al-Mursalat 077:003

‏77:3 والناشرات نشرا

Transliteration	Waalnnashirati nashran
Literal	And/by the spreading/extending/winds (for clouds) , spreading out/extending.

Yusuf Ali	And scatter (things) far and wide;
Pickthal	By those which cause earth's vegetation to revive;
Arberry	by the scatterers scattering
Shakir	Which scatter clouds to their destined places,
Sarwar	by (the angels) spreading (the words of God) far and wide,
Khalifa	Stir up clouds.
Hilali/Khan	And by the winds that scatter clouds and rain;
H/K/Saheeh	And [by] the winds that spread [clouds]
Malik	By the winds that lift up and scatter the clouds to their distant places,[3]
QXP	And spread (the Truth) far and wide.
Maulana Ali	And those spreading (goodness), far and wide!
Free Minds	And all that is scattered about.
Qaribullah	and by the scatterers scattering (rain)

George Sale	and by those which disperse his commands, by divulging them through the earth;
JM Rodwell	By the scatterers who scatter,

Asad	Consider these [messages] that spread [the truth] far and wide,

al-Mursalat 077:004

‏77:4 فالفارقات فرقا

Transliteration	Faalfariqati farqan
Literal	So the separated clouds/separators of right and wrong , separating.

Yusuf Ali	Then separate them, one from another,
Pickthal	By those who winnow with a winnowing,
Arberry	and the severally severing
Shakir	Then separate them one from another,
Sarwar	by (the angels) who make a clear distinction between right and wrong
Khalifa	Distribute the provisions.
Hilali/Khan	And by the Verses (of the Quran) that separate the right from the wrong.
H/K/Saheeh	And those [angels] who bring criterion
Malik	then separate them one from another.[4]
QXP	While distinguishing the Right from Wrong with a clear distinction.
Maulana Ali	Then those making a distinction!
Free Minds	So the separators which divide.
Qaribullah	then the criterion (the verses of Koran), separating

Asad	thus separating [right and wrong] with all clarity,

al-Mursalat 077:005

‏77:5 فالملقيات ذكرا

Transliteration	Faalmulqiyati thikran
Literal	So the throwing/throwing away a reminder/remembrance (delivering messages).

Yusuf Ali	Then spread abroad a Message,
Pickthal	By those who bring down the Reminder,
Arberry	and those hurling a reminder
Shakir	Then I swear by the angels who bring down the revelation,
Sarwar	and by those who reveal revelations (to the prophets)
Khalifa	Deliver messages.
Hilali/Khan	And by the angels that bring the revelations to the Messengers,
H/K/Saheeh	And those [angels] who deliver a message
Malik	By those who bring down the reminder,[5]
QXP	In order to deliver the Reminder (into the hearts).
Maulana Ali	Then those offering the Reminder,
Free Minds	Then the remembrance that is found.
Qaribullah	and those (angels) dropping, reminding

George Sale	and by those which communicate the divine admonitions,

al-Mursalat 077:006

‏77:6 عذرا او نذرا

Transliteration	AAuthran aw nuthran
Literal	An excuse/fault or sins or (a) warning/notice.

Yusuf Ali	Whether of Justification or of Warning;-
Pickthal	To excuse or to warn,
Arberry	excusing or warning,
Shakir	To clear or to warn.
Sarwar	to provide excuses for some and to give warnings to others:
Khalifa	Good news, as well as warnings.
Hilali/Khan	To cut off all excuses or to warn;
H/K/Saheeh	As justification or warning,
Malik	either to remove the excuse or to convey the warning.[6]
QXP	Whether one erases his faults or sees the danger signs. ('Uzr' = Excuse = Justification = Good news = Reasoning = Attempt to get rid of one's shortcomings. 'Nuzr' = Warning = Posting danger signs).
Maulana Ali	To clear or to warn! --
Free Minds	An excuse or a warning.
Qaribullah	excusing or warning,

George Sale	to excuse, or to threaten:
JM Rodwell	To excuse or warn;

Asad	[promising] freedom from blame or [offering] a warning!

al-Mursalat 077:007

‏77:7 انما توعدون لواقع

Transliteration	Innama tooAAadoona lawaqiAAun
Literal	That truly what you are being promised (is) happening (E) .

Yusuf Ali	Assuredly, what ye are promised must come to pass.
Pickthal	Surely that which ye are promised will befall.
Arberry	surely that which you are promised is about to fall!
Shakir	Most surely what you are threatened with must come to pass.
Sarwar	that whatever with which you have been warned will inevitably come to pass.
Khalifa	What is promised will come to pass.
Hilali/Khan	Surely, what you are promised must come to pass.
H/K/Saheeh	Indeed, what you are promised is to occur.
Malik	Surely, that which you are being promised, shall be fulfilled.[7]
QXP	Behold, all that you are promised in this Writ will come to pass.
Maulana Ali	Surely that which you are promised will come to pass.
Free Minds	What you are being promised will come to pass.
Qaribullah	surely, that which you have been promised is about to fall!

George Sale	Verily that which ye are promised is inevitable.
JM Rodwell	Verily that which ye are promised is imminent.

Asad	BEHOLD, all that you are told to expect 4 will surely come to pass.

al-Mursalat 077:008

‏77:8 فاذا النجوم طمست

Transliteration	Fa-itha alnnujoomu tumisat
Literal	So when/if the stars/planets were eliminated/effaced .

Yusuf Ali	Then when the stars become dim;
Pickthal	So when the stars are put out,
Arberry	When the stars shall be extinguished,
Shakir	So when the stars are made to lose their light,
Sarwar	Then the stars will lose their light.
Khalifa	Thus, when the stars are put out.
Hilali/Khan	Then when the stars lose their lights;
H/K/Saheeh	So when the stars are obliterated
Malik	It is going to be fulfilled when the stars will lose their light,[8]
QXP	So when the stars lose their luster. (The small groups of opponents fade away).
Maulana Ali	So when the stars are made to disappear,
Free Minds	So when the stars are plunged.
Qaribullah	When the stars are extinguished,

George Sale	When the stars, therefore, shall be put out,
JM Rodwell	When the stars, therefore, shall be blotted out,

Asad	Thus, [it will come to pass] when the stars are effaced,

al-Mursalat 077:009

‏77:9 واذا السماء فرجت

Transliteration	Wa-itha alssamao furijat
Literal	And when/if the sky/space opened/split open .

Yusuf Ali	When the heaven is cleft asunder;
Pickthal	And when the sky is riven asunder,
Arberry	when heaven shall be split
Shakir	And when the heaven is rent asunder,
Sarwar	Heavens will rent asunder.
Khalifa	The sky is opened up
Hilali/Khan	And when the heaven is cleft asunder;
H/K/Saheeh	And when the heaven is opened
Malik	heaven will cleft asunder,[9]
QXP	And when the sky is rent asunder. (Every high tyrant is decimated).
Maulana Ali	And when the heaven is rent asunder,
Free Minds	And when the sky is opened.
Qaribullah	and when the sky is rent asunder

George Sale	and when the heaven shall be cloven in sunder,
JM Rodwell	And when the heaven shall be cleft,

Asad	and when the sky is rent asunder,

al-Mursalat 077:010

‏77:10 واذا الجبال نسفت

Transliteration	Wa-itha aljibalu nusifat
Literal	And when/if the mountains were uprooted and dispersed/exploded .

Yusuf Ali	When the mountains are scattered (to the winds) as dust;
Pickthal	And when the mountains are blown away,
Arberry	when the mountains shall be scattered
Shakir	And when the mountains are carried away as dust,
Sarwar	The mountains will be blown away as dust.
Khalifa	The mountains are blown up.
Hilali/Khan	And when the mountains are blown away;
H/K/Saheeh	And when the mountains are blown away
Malik	the mountains will crumble into dust,[10]
QXP	And when the mountains are blown away as dust. (The great ones who enslave the weak float around like flakes of wool). (20:105), (56:5).
Maulana Ali	And when the mountains are carried away as dust,
Free Minds	And when the mountains are destroyed.
Qaribullah	and the mountains scattered,

George Sale	and when the mountains shall be winnowed,
JM Rodwell	And when the mountains shall be scattered in dust,

Asad	and when the mountains are scattered like dust,

al-Mursalat 077:011

‏77:11 واذا الرسل اقتت

Transliteration	Wa-itha alrrusulu oqqitat
Literal	And when/if the messengers were appointed a time.

Yusuf Ali	And when the messengers are (all) appointed a time (to collect);-
Pickthal	And when the messengers are brought unto their time appointed -
Arberry	and when the Messengers' time is set,
Shakir	And when the messengers are gathered at their appointed time
Sarwar	The Messengers will receive their appointments.
Khalifa	The messengers are summoned.
Hilali/Khan	And when the Messengers are gathered to their time appointed;
H/K/Saheeh	And when the messengers' time has come…
Malik	and when the Messengers will be brought together at the appointed time.[11]
QXP	And when all Messengers are summoned at the time appointed. (The unanimity of the Message of all Messengers will become evident).
Maulana Ali	And when the messengers are made to reach their appointed time,
Free Minds	And when the messengers are gathered.
Qaribullah	and when the Messengers' time is set

George Sale	and when the Apostles shall have a time assigned them to appear and bear testimony against their respective people;

al-Mursalat 077:012

‏77:12 لاي يوم اجلت

Transliteration	Li-ayyi yawmin ojjilat
Literal	To which day/time it was delayed.

Yusuf Ali	For what Day are these (portents) deferred?
Pickthal	For what day is the time appointed?
Arberry	to what day shall they be delayed?
Shakir	To what day is the doom fixed?
Sarwar	If one asks, "To which day have such calamitous events been postponed?"
Khalifa	That is the appointed day.
Hilali/Khan	For what Day are these signs postponed?
H/K/Saheeh	For what Day was it postponed?
Malik	For what Day has all this been deferred?[12]
QXP	For what Day is the term delayed?
Maulana Ali
Free Minds	For what day has it been delayed?
Qaribullah	to what day shall they be deferred?

JM Rodwell	Until what day shall that time be deferred?

Asad	For what day has the term [of all this] been set?

al-Mursalat 077:013

‏77:13 ليوم الفصل

Transliteration	Liyawmi alfasli
Literal	To the Judgment Day/Separation Day/Resurrection Day .

Yusuf Ali	For the Day of Sorting out.
Pickthal	For the Day of Decision.
Arberry	To the Day of Decision.
Shakir	To the day of decision.
Sarwar	one will be told,"To the Day of Distinction".
Khalifa	The Day of Decision.
Hilali/Khan	For the Day of sorting out (the men of Paradise from the men destined for Hell).
H/K/Saheeh	For the Day of Judgement.
Malik	For the Day of Judgment![13]
QXP	For the Day of Decision!
Maulana Ali	To the day of Decision.
Free Minds	For the Day of Separation.
Qaribullah	Upon the Day of Decision!

al-Mursalat 077:014

‏77:14 وماادراك مايوم الفصل

Transliteration	Wama adraka ma yawmu alfasli
Literal	And what makes you know what the Judgment Day/Separation Day/Resurrection Day (is)?

Yusuf Ali	And what will explain to thee what is the Day of Sorting out?
Pickthal	And what will convey unto thee what the Day of Decision is! -
Arberry	And what shall teach thee what is the Day of Decision?
Shakir	And what will make you comprehend what the day of decision is?
Sarwar	Would that you knew about the Day of Judgment!
Khalifa	What a Day of Decision!
Hilali/Khan	And what will explain to you what is the Day of sorting out?
H/K/Saheeh	And what can make you know what is the Day of Judgement?
Malik	And what will explain to you, what the Day of Judgment is?[14]
QXP	And what will enlighten you what that Day of Decision is?
Maulana Ali	And what will make thee comprehend what the day of Decision is?
Free Minds	And do you know what is the Day of Separation?
Qaribullah	Would that you knew what the Day of Decision is!

George Sale	And what shall cause thee to understand what the day of separation is?
JM Rodwell	And who shall teach thee what the day of severing is?

Asad	And what could make thee conceive what that Day of Distinction will be?

al-Mursalat 077:015

‏77:15 ويل يومئذ للمكذبين

Transliteration	Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeena
Literal	Calamity/scandal (on) that day to the liars/deniers/falsifiers .

Yusuf Ali	Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!
Pickthal	Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
Arberry	Woe that day unto those who cry it lies!
Shakir	Woe on that day to the rejecters.
Sarwar	On that day, woe will be to those who have rejected God's revelations!
Khalifa	Woe on that day to the rejectors.
Hilali/Khan	Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!
H/K/Saheeh	Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
Malik	Woe on that Day to the disbelievers![15]
QXP	Anguish on that Day for those who deny the Truth in practice! ('Kizb' = Lie = Belie = Deny the Truth in practical dealings = Deny by action. 'Kufr' = Frank denial in word and action).
Maulana Ali	Woe on that day to the rejectors!
Free Minds	Woe on that Day to the disbelievers!
Qaribullah	Woe on that Day to those who belied it!

George Sale	On that day, wo be unto them who accused the prophets of imposture!
JM Rodwell	Woe on that day to those who charged with imposture!

Asad	Woe on that Day unto those who give the lie to the truth!

al-Mursalat 077:016

‏77:16 الم نهلك الاولين

Transliteration	Alam nuhliki al-awwaleena
Literal	Did We not destroy the first/beginners?

Yusuf Ali	Did We not destroy the men of old (for their evil)?
Pickthal	Destroyed We not the former folk,
Arberry	Did We not destroy the ancients,
Shakir	Did We not destroy the former generations?
Sarwar	Did We not destroy the ancient people
Khalifa	Did we not annihilate the earlier generations?
Hilali/Khan	Did We not destroy the ancients?
H/K/Saheeh	Did We not destroy the former peoples?
Malik	Did We not destroy the former generations for their evil deeds?[16]
QXP	Did We not annihilate the former generations?
Maulana Ali	Did We not destroy the former generations?

Qaribullah	Did We not destroy the ancients

al-Mursalat 077:017

‏77:17 ثم نتبعهم الاخرين

Transliteration	Thumma nutbiAAuhumu al-akhireena
Literal	Then We make them followed (by) the lasts/others .

Yusuf Ali	So shall We make later (generations) follow them.
Pickthal	Then caused the latter folk to follow after?
Arberry	and then follow them with the later folk?
Shakir	Then did We follow them up with later ones.
Sarwar	and make others settle after them in their land?.
Khalifa	Then we made others follow them?
Hilali/Khan	So shall We make later generations to follow them.
H/K/Saheeh	Then We will follow them with the later ones.
Malik	And We shall do the same to later generations who will follow them.[17]
QXP	Then We made them followed by later generations.
Maulana Ali	Then We followed them up with later ones.
Free Minds	Then We made others succeed them?
Qaribullah	and let the latter follow them?

Asad	And We shall let them be followed by those of later times:

al-Mursalat 077:018

‏77:18 كذلك نفعل بالمجرمين

Transliteration	Kathalika nafAAalu bialmujrimeena
Literal	As/like that We make/do with the criminals/sinners.

Yusuf Ali	Thus do We deal with men of sin.
Pickthal	Thus deal We ever with the guilty.
Arberry	So We serve the sinners.
Shakir	Even thus shall We deal with the guilty.
Sarwar	Thus do We deal with the sinful ones.
Khalifa	This is what we do to the criminals.
Hilali/Khan	Thus do We deal with the Mujrimoon (polytheists, disbelievers, sinners, criminals, etc.)!
H/K/Saheeh	Thus do We deal with the criminals.
Malik	Thus do We deal with the guilty.[18]
QXP	Thus do We always deal with the guilty.
Maulana Ali	Thus do We deal with the guilty.
Free Minds	It is such that We do to the criminals.
Qaribullah	As such shall We deal with the sinners.

George Sale	Thus do We deal with the wicked.
JM Rodwell	Thus deal we with the evil doers.

Asad	[for] thus do We deal with such as are lost in sin.

al-Mursalat 077:019

‏77:19 ويل يومئذ للمكذبين

Transliteration	Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeena
Literal	Calamity/scandal (on) that day to the liars/deniers/falsifiers.

Yusuf Ali	Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!
Pickthal	Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
Arberry	Woe that day unto those who cry it lies!
Shakir	Woe on that day to the rejecters.
Sarwar	On that day, woe upon those who have rejected God's revelations!
Khalifa	Woe on that day to the rejectors.
Hilali/Khan	Woe that Day to the deniers (of the Day of Resurrection)!
H/K/Saheeh	Woe, that Day, to the deniers.
Malik	Woe on that Day to the disbelievers![19]
QXP	Anguish on that Day for those who deny the Truth in practice!
Maulana Ali	Woe on that day to the rejectors!

Qaribullah	Woe on that Day to those who belied it!

al-Mursalat 077:020

‏77:20 الم نخلقكم من ماء مهين

Transliteration	Alam nakhluqkum min ma-in maheenin
Literal	Did We not create you from despised/humiliated (discarded) water?

Yusuf Ali	Have We not created you from a fluid (held) despicable?-
Pickthal	Did We not create you from a base fluid
Arberry	Did We not create you of a mean water,
Shakir	Did We not create you from contemptible water?
Sarwar	Did We not create you from an insignificant drop of fluid
Khalifa	Did we not create you from a lowly liquid?
Hilali/Khan	Did We not create you from a worthless water (semen, etc.)?
H/K/Saheeh	Did We not create you from a liquid disdained?
Malik	Have We not created you from an unworthy fluid,[20]
QXP	Did We not create you from a humble fluid? (How, then, you forget your common origin and being humble to one another?)
Maulana Ali	Did We not create you from ordinary water?
Free Minds	Did We not create you from a fragile water
Qaribullah	Did We not create you from a weak water,

George Sale	Have We not created you of a contemptible drop of seed,
JM Rodwell	Have we not created you of a sorry germ,

Asad	Did We not create you out of a humble fluid

al-Mursalat 077:021

‏77:21 فجعلناه في قرار مكين

Transliteration	FajaAAalnahu fee qararin makeenin
Literal	So We made/put it in a highly positioned/established settlement/affixation .

Yusuf Ali	The which We placed in a place of rest, firmly fixed,
Pickthal	Which We laid up in a safe abode
Arberry	that We laid within a sure lodging
Shakir	Then We placed it in a secure resting-place,
Sarwar	and place it in a secure place
Khalifa	Then we placed it in a well-protected repository.
Hilali/Khan	Then We placed it in a place of safety (womb),
H/K/Saheeh	And We placed it in a firm lodging
Malik	which We placed in a secure resting- place (womb),[21]
QXP	Which We then kept in a safe place. (23:13).
Maulana Ali	Then We placed it in a secure resting-place,
Free Minds	Then We made it in a place of protection
Qaribullah	which We placed within a sure lodging

al-Mursalat 077:022

‏77:22 الى قدر معلوم

Transliteration	Ila qadarin maAAloomin
Literal	To a known predestiny/estimation .

Yusuf Ali	For a period (of gestation), determined (according to need)?
Pickthal	For a known term?
Arberry	till a known term decreed?
Shakir	Till an appointed term,
Sarwar	for an appointed time?.
Khalifa	For a specific period.
Hilali/Khan	For a known period (determined by gestation)?
H/K/Saheeh	For a known extent.
Malik	for an appointed term?[22]
QXP	For a term appointed.
Maulana Ali	Till an appointed term,
Free Minds	Until a time that is predetermined?
Qaribullah	for an appointed term?

George Sale	until the fixed term of delivery?
JM Rodwell	Till the term decreed for birth?

Asad	for a term pre-ordained?

al-Mursalat 077:023

‏77:23 فقدرنا فنعم القادرون

Transliteration	Faqadarna faniAAma alqadiroona
Literal	So We evaluated and measured precisely, so blessed/praised (are) the capable/able .

Yusuf Ali	For We do determine (according to need); for We are the best to determine (things).
Pickthal	Thus We arranged. How excellent is Our arranging!
Arberry	We determined; excellent determiners are We.
Shakir	So We proportion it-- how well are We at proportioning (things).
Sarwar	Thus did We Plan and how excellent is Our planning!
Khalifa	We measured it precisely. We are the best designers
Hilali/Khan	So We did measure, and We are the Best to measure (the things).
H/K/Saheeh	And We determined [it], and excellent [are We] to determine.
Malik	We have estimated its term - how excellent an estimator We are![23]
QXP	Thus We have determined (all things). How excellent is Our determining! (Appointing due measure of all things).
Maulana Ali	So We determined -- how well are We at determining!
Free Minds	So We measured, and We are the best to measure.
Qaribullah	We determined, how excellent a Determiner are We!

George Sale	And We were able to do this: For We are most powerful.
JM Rodwell	Such is our power! and, how powerful are We!

Asad	Thus have We determined [the nature of man's creation]: and excellent indeed is Our power to determine [what is to be]!

al-Mursalat 077:024

‏77:24 ويل يومئذ للمكذبين

Transliteration	Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeena
Literal	Calamity/scandal (on) that day to the liars/deniers/falsifiers.

Yusuf Ali	Ah woe, that Day! to the Rejecters of Truth!

Literal	And We made/put in it anchors/mountains high/towering , and We gave you drink (from) very sweet/fresh water.

Yusuf Ali	And made therein mountains standing firm, lofty (in stature); and provided for you water sweet (and wholesome)?
Pickthal	And placed therein high mountains and given you to drink sweet water therein?
Arberry	Set We not therein soaring mountains? Sated you with sweetest water?
Shakir	And made therein lofty mountains, and given you to drink of sweet water?

Yusuf Ali	(It will be said:) "Depart ye to that which ye used to reject as false!
Pickthal	(It will be said unto them:) Depart unto that (doom) which ye used to deny;
Arberry	Depart to that you cried was lies!
Shakir	Walk on to that which you called a lie.
Sarwar	Proceed to that (the Day of Judgment) which you have rejected.
Khalifa	Go to what you used to disbelieve in.
Hilali/Khan	(It will be said to the disbelievers): "Depart you to that which you used to deny!
H/K/Saheeh	[They will be told], "Proceed to that which you used to deny.
Malik	On the Day of Judgment it will be said to the disbelievers: "Walk on to hell which you used deny![29]

‏77:30 انطلقوا الى ظل ذي ثلاث شعب

Transliteration	Intaliqoo ila thillin thee thalathi shuAAabin
Literal	Leave/go/set out to shade of three branches/three off shoots .

Yusuf Ali	"Depart ye to a Shadow (of smoke ascending) in three columns,
Pickthal	Depart unto the shadow falling threefold,
Arberry	Depart to a triple-massing shadow
Shakir	Walk on to the covering having three branches,
Sarwar	Proceed to that shadow, rising in three columns

Transliteration	La thaleelin wala yughnee mina allahabi
Literal	Not shading and nor enriches/suffices (protects) from the flame of a smokeless fire.

Yusuf Ali	"(Which yields) no shade of coolness, and is of no use against the fierce Blaze.
Pickthal	(Which yet is) no relief nor shelter from the flame.
Arberry	unshading against the blazing flame
Shakir	Neither having the coolness of the shade nor availing against the flame.
Sarwar	which neither gives shade nor protects one from the flames.
Khalifa	Yet, it provides neither coolness, nor protection from the heat.
Hilali/Khan	"Neither shading, nor of any use against the fierce flame of the Fire."
H/K/Saheeh	[But having] no cool shade and availing not against the flame."

‏77:32 انها ترمي بشرر كالقصر

Transliteration	Innaha tarmee bishararin kaalqasri
Literal	That it truly throws with sparks as (big) as the castle/palace .

Yusuf Ali	"Indeed it throws about sparks (huge) as Forts,
Pickthal	Lo! it throweth up sparks like the castles,
Arberry	that shoots sparks like dry faggots,
Shakir	Surely it sends up sparks like palaces,
Sarwar	The fire will shoot out sparks as big as huge towers
Khalifa	It throws sparks as big as mansions.
Hilali/Khan	Verily! It (Hell) throws sparks (huge) as Al-Qasr (a fort or a Qasr (huge log of wood)),
H/K/Saheeh	Indeed, it throws sparks [as huge] as a fortress,

‏77:33 كانه جمالة صفر

Transliteration	Kaannahu jimalatun sufrun
Literal	As though it (is) camels yellow .

Yusuf Ali	"As if there were (a string of) yellow camels (marching swiftly)."
Pickthal	(Or) as it might be camels of bright yellow hue.
Arberry	sparks like to golden herds.
Shakir	As if they were tawny camels.
Sarwar	and yellow camels.
Khalifa	As yellow as the color of camels.
Hilali/Khan	As if they were Jimalatun Sufr (yellow camels or bundles of ropes)."

Yusuf Ali	Nor will it be open to them to put forth pleas.
Pickthal	Nor are they suffered to put forth excuses.

Shakir	And permission shall not be given to them so that they should offer excuses.

Literal	That (is) the Judgment Day/Separation Day/Resurrection Day We gathered/collected you and the first/beginners.

Yusuf Ali	That will be a Day of Sorting out! We shall gather you together and those before (you)!
Pickthal	This is the Day of Decision, We have brought you and the men of old together.
Arberry	'This is the Day of Decision; We have joined you with the ancients;
Shakir	This is the day of decision: We have gathered you and those of yore.
Sarwar	That is the Day of Judgment. We will bring you together with all the ancient peoples.
Khalifa	This is the Day of Decision. We have summoned you and the previous generations.
Hilali/Khan	That will be a Day of Decision! We have brought you and the men of old together!
H/K/Saheeh	This is the Day of Judgement; We will have assembled you and the former peoples.
Malik	Such will be the Day of Judgment. We shall assemble you and your past generations.[38]

Maulana Ali	This is the day of Decision; We have gathered you and those of yore.
Free Minds	This is the Day of Separation where We have gathered you with the ancient people.
Qaribullah	Such is the Day of Decision. We will gather you with the ancients.

Asad	that Day of Distinction [between the true and the false, when they will be told]: "We have brought you together with those [sinners] of olden times;

‏77:39 فان كان لكم كيد فكيدون

Transliteration	Fa-in kana lakum kaydun fakeedooni
Literal	So if (there) was for you (a) plot/conspiracy , so plot/conspire against Me .

Yusuf Ali	Now, if ye have a trick (or plot), use it against Me!
Pickthal	If now ye have any wit, outwit Me.
Arberry	if you have a trick, try you now to trick Me!'
Shakir	So if you have a plan, plan against Me (now).
Sarwar	If you have any plans, use them.
Khalifa	If you have any schemes, go ahead and scheme.
Hilali/Khan	So if you have a plot, use it against Me (Allah )!
H/K/Saheeh	So if you have a plan, then plan against Me.
Malik	Now if you have a plot, use it against Me.[39]

Yusuf Ali	As to the Righteous, they shall be amidst (cool) shades and springs (of water).
Pickthal	Lo! those who kept their duty are amid shade and fountains,
Arberry	Truly the godfearing shall dwell amid shades and fountains,
Shakir	Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be amid shades and fountains,
Sarwar	The pious ones will rest amid the shade, springs,
Khalifa	The righteous will enjoy shade and springs.
Hilali/Khan	Verily, the Muttaqoon (pious - see V.2:2) shall be amidst shades and springs.
H/K/Saheeh	Indeed, the righteous will be among shades and springs
Malik	Surely the righteous shall dwell amidst cool shades and springs[41]

Transliteration	Wafawakiha mimma yashtahoona
Literal	And fruits from what they desire/crave .

Yusuf Ali	And (they shall have) fruits,- all they desire.

Arberry	and such fruits as their hearts desire:
Shakir	And fruits such as they desire.

Literal	Eat and drink pleasurable/wholesome because (of) what you were making/doing .

Yusuf Ali	"Eat ye and drink ye to your heart's content: for that ye worked (Righteousness).
Pickthal	(Unto them it is said:) Eat, drink and welcome, O ye blessed, in return for what ye did.
Arberry	'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working.'
