| | Hamid S. Aziz rendition of Surah The Winnowing Winds, The Scatterers(adh-Dhariyat) --- |
|---|
| 51:1 | | (I swear) By the wind that scatters far and wide, |
| 51:2 | | And those that lift and bear heavy loads, |
| 51:3 | | And those that flow with ease and gentleness, |
| 51:4 | | And those that distribute and apportion by Our command; |
| 51:5 | | That of which you are warned is most surely true, |
| 51:6 | | And the judgment must most surely come about. |
| 51:7 | | Swear by the heaven (sky) full of paths (orbits). |
| 51:8 | | Most surely you are in doctrines (opinions, teachings, ideologies) discordant (or inconsistent or contradictory), |
| 51:9 | | He is turned away by them from truth, who would be (or wishes to be) turned away. |
| 51:10 | | Cursed be the conjecturers (or lie-mongers), |
| 51:11 | | Who flounder heedless in an abyss (of ignorance and confusion). |
| 51:12 | | They ask, "When will be the day of judgment?" |
| 51:13 | | It is the day on which they shall be tried at the Fire. |
| 51:14 | | Taste you your torment! This is what you sought to hasten. |
| 51:15 | | Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in Gardens and Springs. |
| 51:16 | | Taking joy in what their Lord gives them; surely they were before that, the doers of good. |
| 51:17 | | They used to sleep but little in the night. |
| 51:18 | | And in the morning they prayed for forgiveness. |
| 51:19 | | And in their wealth a portion was allotted for him who asked (the needy) and to him who was denied (the outcast, the deprived person or the one who could not ask). |
| 51:20 | | And in the earth there are signs for those who have sure faith, |
| 51:21 | | And also in your own souls; will you not then see? |
| 51:22 | | And in the heaven is your sustenance and that which you are promised. |
| 51:23 | | And by the Lord of the heavens and the earth! It is most surely the truth, even as you speak. |
| 51:24 | | Has there come to you information about the honoured guests of Abraham? |
| 51:25 | | When they entered his presence they said, "Peace. Peace." Said he, "What a strange people." |
| 51:26 | | Then he turned aside to his family secretly and brought a fat (roasted) calf, |
| 51:27 | | And placed it before them. He said, "What! Will you not eat?" |
| 51:28 | | (When they did not eat) he conceived in his mind a fear of them. They said, "Fear not." And they gave him the good news of a son endowed with knowledge. |
| 51:29 | | Then his wife came up in great grief, and she struck her face and said, "An old barren woman!" |
| 51:30 | | They said, "Thus says your Lord: Surely He is the Wise, the Knowing." |
| 51:31 | | He said, "What is your errand then, O Messengers!" |
| 51:32 | | They said, "Surely we are sent to a guilty people, |
| 51:33 | | "That we may send down upon them stone of clay (or brimstones), |
| 51:34 | | "Sent forth from your Lord for the extravagant (those who transgress beyond bounds)." |
| 51:35 | | Then We brought forth such believers as were therein. |
| 51:36 | | But We found not therein but one house of those who had Surrendered (Muslims). |
| 51:37 | | And We left therein a sign for those who fear the grievous penalty. |
| 51:38 | | And in Moses (was another sign). When We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority. |
| 51:39 | | But he turned away with his forces and said, "A sorcerer or a mad man." |
| 51:40 | | So We seized him and his hosts and hurled them into the sea and his was the blame. |
| 51:41 | | And in A´ad (was another sign). When We sent upon them the destructive wind. |
| 51:42 | | It spared naught on which it blew, but made it like dust. |
| 51:43 | | And in Thamud (was another sign). When it was said to them, "Enjoy yourselves for a while." |
| 51:44 | | But they revolted against the commandment of their Lord, so the rumbling (thunderbolt or stunning noise of an earthquake) overtook them while they looked. |
| 51:45 | | And they were not able to rise up, nor could they defend themselves. |
| 51:46 | | And the people of Noah (were also a sign) before that, surely they were a transgressing people. |
| 51:47 | | And the heaven, We raised it high with power, and it is We that expand the vastness of space (or We are the expanders of it). |
| 51:48 | | And the earth, We have spread it out; how gracious was the Spreader thereof. |
| 51:49 | | And of all things have We created pairs, that you may reflect (or receive instruction). |
| 51:50 | | Therefore flee unto Allah, surely I am a plain Warner to you from Him. |
| 51:51 | | And set not up with Allah another God: surely I am a plain Warner to you from Him. |
| 51:52 | | Thus there did not come to those before them a messenger but they said, "(He is) A sorcerer or a mad man." |
| 51:53 | | Is this the legacy (or tradition) they have transmitted to each other? Nay! They are a people extravagant (transgressing beyond bounds). |
| 51:54 | | Then turn your back upon them for you are not to blame; |
| 51:55 | | And continue to teach (or remind), for surely the reminder profits the believers. |
| 51:56 | | And I have not created the jinn and mankind except to worship (serve) Me. |
| 51:57 | | No sustenance do I require from them, nor do I require that they should feed Me. |
| 51:58 | | Surely it is Allah Who is the Bestower of sustenance, the Lord of Power, the ever Steadfast. |
| 51:59 | | And lo! Those who do wrong shall have a portion like the portion of those of earlier generations, therefore let them not ask Me to hasten. |
| 51:60 | | Woe to those who disbelieve because of their Day which they are promised. |
