16:1 سورة النحل بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ــــ اتى امر الله فلاتستعجلوه سبحانه وتعالى عما يشركون


TransliterationAta amru Allahi fala tastaAAjiloohu subhanahu wataAAala AAamma yushrikoona
LiteralGod's order/command came so do not hurry/rush/hasten Him , His praise/glory and (He is) high, mighty, exalted and dignified about what they share/make partners (with God).

Yusuf Ali(Inevitable) cometh (to pass) the Command of Allah: seek ye not then to hasten it: Glory to Him, and far is He above having the partners they ascribe unto Him!
PickthalThe commandment of Allah will come to pass, so seek not ye to hasten it. Glorified and Exalted be He above all that they associate (with Him).
Arberry God's command comes; so seek not to hasten it. Glory be to Him! High be He exalted above that they associate with Him!
ShakirAllah's commandment has come, therefore do not desire to hasten it; glory be to Him, and highly exalted be He above what they associate (with Him).
SarwarGod's help will certainly support (the believers), so pagans do not (seek) to hasten it. God is too Glorious and Exalted to be considered equal to idols.
KhalifaGOD's command has already been issued (and everything has already been written), so do not rush it. Be He glorified; the Most High, far above any idols they set up.
Hilali/KhanThe Event (the Hour or the punishment of disbelievers and polytheists or the Islamic laws or commandments), ordained by Allah will come to pass, so seek not to hasten it. Glorified and Exalted be He above all that they associate as partners with Him.
H/K/SaheehThe command of Allah is coming, so be not impatient for it. Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him.
MalikAllah’s commandment has come, so do not seek to hurry it on. Glory be to Him and Exalted be He above the shirk (associating other gods with Allah) that they practice! [1]
QXPAllah's Command has come. Stop and think over these Messages and hasten not in comprehending the Qur'an. Glorified, Exalted He is, High above what people associate with Him.

AsadGOD'S JUDGMENT is [bound to] come: do not, therefore, call for its speedy advent!` Limitless is He in His glory and sublimely exalted above anything to which men may ascribe a share in His divinity!



an-Nahl 016:002

16:2 ينزل الملائكةبالروح من امره على من يشاء من عباده ان انذروا انه لااله الا انا فاتقون


TransliterationYunazzilu almala-ikata bialrroohi min amrihi AAala man yashao min AAibadihi an anthiroo annahu la ilaha illa ana faittaqooni
LiteralHe descends the angels with the Soul/Spirit from His order/command on whom He wills/wants from His worshippers/slaves, that warn/give notice, that He is, no God except Me, so fear and obey Me.

Yusuf AliHe doth send down His angels with inspiration of His Command, to such of His servants as He pleaseth, (saying): "Warn (Man) that there is no god but I: so do your duty unto Me."
PickthalHe sendeth down the angels with the Spirit of His command unto whom He will of His bondmen, (saying): Warn mankind that there is no Allah save Me, so keep your duty unto Me.
Arberry He sends down the angels with the Spirit of His command upon whomsoever He will among His servants, saying: Give you warning that there is no God hut I; so fear you Me!
ShakirHe sends down the angels with the inspiration by His commandment on whom He pleases of His servants, saying: Give the warning that there is no god but Me, therefore be careful (of your duty) to Me.
SarwarHe sends the angels with the Spirit to carry His orders to whichever of His servants He wants so that they would warn people that He is the only God and that people must have fear of Him.
KhalifaHe sends down the angels with the revelations, carrying His commands, to whomever He chooses from among His servants: "You shall preach that there is no other god beside Me; You shall reverence Me."
Hilali/KhanHe sends down the angels with inspiration of His Command to whom of His slaves He pleases (saying): "Warn mankind that La ilaha illa Ana (none has the right to be worshipped but I), so fear Me (by abstaining from sins and evil deeds).

Maulana AliHe sends down angels with revelation by His command on whom He pleases of His servants saying: Give the warning that there is no God but Me, so keep your duty to Me.

16:3 خلق السماوات والارض بالحق تعالى عما يشركون


TransliterationKhalaqa alssamawati waal-arda bialhaqqi taAAala AAamma yushrikoona
LiteralHe created the skies/space and the earth/Planet Earth with the truth, (He is) high, mighty, exalted and dignified from what they share/make partners (with God).

Yusuf AliHe has created the heavens and the earth for just ends: Far is He above having the partners they ascribe to Him!
PickthalHe hath created the heavens and the earth with truth. High be He Exalted above all that they associate (with Him).
Arberry He created the heavens and the earth in truth; high be He exalted above that they associate With Him!

an-Nahl 016:004

16:4 خلق الانسان من نطفة فاذاهو خصيم مبين


TransliterationKhalaqa al-insana min nutfatin fa-itha huwa khaseemun mubeenun
LiteralHe created the human/mankind from a drop/male's or female's secretion/little water, so then he (the human/mankind) is (a) clear/evident disputer/adversary .

Yusuf AliHe has created man from a sperm-drop; and behold this same (man) becomes an open disputer!
PickthalHe hath created man from a drop of fluid, yet behold! he is an open opponent.
Arberry He created man of a sperm-drop; and, behold, he is a manifest adversary.
ShakirHe created man from a small seed and lo! he is an open contender.
SarwarHe created the human being from a drop of fluid but the human being openly disputes His Word.
KhalifaHe created the human from a tiny drop, then he turns into an ardent opponent.

QXPHe created the human being out of male and female gametes. They should be humble before their Creator's Messages instead of being contentious.

an-Nahl 016:005

16:5 والانعام خلقها لكم فيها دفء ومنافع ومنها تاكلون


TransliterationWaal-anAAama khalaqaha lakum feeha dif-on wamanafiAAu waminha ta-kuloona
LiteralAnd the camels/livestock, He created it for you, in it (is) warmth, and benefits/uses, and from it, you eat.

Yusuf AliAnd cattle He has created for you (men): from them ye derive warmth, and numerous benefits, and of their (meat) ye eat.
PickthalAnd the cattle hath He created, whence ye have warm clothing and uses, and whereof ye eat;
Arberry And the cattle -- He created them for you; in them is warmth, and uses various, and of them you eat,
ShakirAnd He created the cattle for you; you have in them warm clothing and (many) advantages, and of them do you eat.
SarwarHe created cattle which provide you with clothes, food, and other benefits.
KhalifaAnd He created the livestock for you, to provide you with warmth, and many other benefits, as well as food.

Maulana AliAnd the cattle, He has created them for you. You have in them warm clothing and (other) advantages, and of them you eat.

Qaribullah And the cattle He created for you. In them, you have warmth and other uses, and of them you eat.

an-Nahl 016:006

16:6 ولكم فيها جمال حين تريحون وحين تسرحون


TransliterationWalakum feeha jamalun heena tureehoona waheena tasrahoona
LiteralAnd for you in it (is) beauty/grace/loveliness when/where you come or go in the evening/rest , and when/where you go out/depart freely .

Yusuf AliAnd ye have a sense of pride and beauty in them as ye drive them home in the evening, and as ye lead them forth to pasture in the morning.
PickthalAnd wherein is beauty for you, when ye bring them home, and when ye take them out to pasture.
Arberry and there is beauty in them for you, when you bring them home to rest and when you drive them forth abroad to pasture;
ShakirAnd there is beauty in them for you when you drive them back (to home), and when you send them forth (to pasture).
SarwarHow beautiful you find them when you bring them home and when you drive them out to graze.
KhalifaThey also provide you with luxury during your leisure, and when you travel.
Hilali/KhanAnd wherein is beauty for you, when you bring them home in the evening, and as you lead them forth to pasture in the morning.
H/K/SaheehAnd for you in them is [the enjoyment of] beauty when you bring them in [for the evening] and when you send them out [to pasture].
MalikHow pleasant they look to you when you bring them home in the evening and drive them to pasture in the morning.[6]
QXPAnd you find beauty in them when you drive them home in the evenings and when you take them out to pasture in the mornings.
Maulana AliAnd therein is beauty for you, when you drive them back (home) and when you send them out (to pasture).
Free MindsAnd for you in them is beauty, when you relax and when you travel.
Qaribullah In them there is beauty for you when you bring them home and when you lead them to pasture.

George SaleAnd they are likewise a credit unto you, when ye drive them home in the evening, and when ye lead them forth to feed in the morning:
JM RodwellAnd they beseem you well when ye fetch them home and when ye drive them forth to pasture:

Asadand you find beauty in them when you drive them home in the evenings and when you take them out to pasture in the mornings.



an-Nahl 016:007

16:7 وتحمل اثقالكم الى بلد لم تكونوا بالغيه الا بشق الانفس ان ربكم لرؤوف رحيم


TransliterationWatahmilu athqalakum ila baladin lam takoonoo baligheehi illa bishiqqi al-anfusi inna rabbakum laraoofun raheemun
LiteralAnd it loads/carries your loads/belonging (weights) to a country/land , you were not reaching it, except with the selves' difficulty/hardship, that your Lord (is) merciful/compassionate (E), merciful.

Yusuf AliAnd they carry your heavy loads to lands that ye could not (otherwise) reach except with souls distressed: for your Lord is indeed Most Kind, Most Merciful,
PickthalAnd they bear your loads for you unto a land ye could not reach save with great trouble to yourselves. Lo! your Lord is Full of Pity, Merciful.
Arberry and they bear your loads unto a land that you never would reach, excepting with great distress. Surely your Lord is All-clement, All-compassionate.
ShakirAnd they carry your heavy loads to regions which you could not reach but with distress of the souls; most surely your Lord is Compassionate, Merciful.
SarwarThey carry your heavy loads to lands which you would not have been able to reach without great difficulty. Your Lord is certainly Compassionate and All-Merciful.
KhalifaAnd they carry your loads to lands that you could not reach without a great hardship. Surely, your Lord is Compassionate, Most Merciful.
Hilali/KhanAnd they carry your loads to a land that you could not reach except with great trouble to yourselves. Truly, your Lord is full of Kindness, Most Merciful.
H/K/SaheehAnd they carry your loads to a land you could not have reached except with difficulty to yourselves. Indeed, your Lord is Kind and Merciful.
MalikThey carry your heavy loads to far-off towns that you could not otherwise reach without painful toil; indeed your Lord is Kind and Merciful.[7]
QXPThey carry your loads to places you could not reach without much hardship. Verily, your Lord is Compassionate, Merciful.
Maulana AliAnd they carry your heavy loads to regions which you could not reach but with distress to yourselves. Surely your Lord is Compassionate, Merciful.
Free MindsAnd they carry your loads to a place you would not have been able to reach except with great strain. Your Lord is Compassionate, Merciful.
Qaribullah They carry your loads to a land which you could not otherwise reach except by painful toil to oneself. Your Lord is the Clement, the Most Merciful.

George SaleAnd they carry your burdens to a distant country, at which ye could not otherwise arrive, unless with great difficulty to yourselves; for your Lord is compassionate and merciful.
JM RodwellAnd they carry your burdens to lands which ye could not else reach but with travail of soul: truly your Lord is full of goodness, and merciful:

AsadAnd they carry your loads to [many] a place which [otherwise] you would be unable to reach without great hardship to yourselves. Verily, your Sustainer is most compassionate, a dispenser of grace!



an-Nahl 016:008

16:8 والخيل والبغال والحمير لتركبوها وزينة ويخلق مالاتعلمون


TransliterationWaalkhayla waalbighala waalhameera litarkabooha wazeenatan wayakhluqu ma la taAAlamoona
LiteralAnd the horses and the mules and the donkeys, (are) to ride it and decoration/beauty , and He creates what you do not know.

Yusuf AliAnd (He has created) horses, mules, and donkeys, for you to ride and use for show; and He has created (other) things of which ye have no knowledge.
PickthalAnd horses and mules and asses (hath He created) that ye may ride them, and for ornament. And He createth that which ye know not.
Arberry And horses, and mules, and asses, for you to ride, and as an adornment; and He creates what you know not.
ShakirAnd (He made) horses and mules and asses that you might ride upon them and as an ornament; and He creates what you do not know.
SarwarHe created horses, mules, and donkeys for you to ride and as a means of beauty. He has also created things that you do not know.
KhalifaAnd (He created) the horses, the mules, and the donkeys for you to ride, and for luxury. Additionally, He creates what you do not know.
Hilali/KhanAnd (He has created) horses, mules and donkeys, for you to ride and as an adornment. And He creates (other) things of which you have no knowledge.
H/K/SaheehAnd [He created] the horses, mules and donkeys for you to ride and [as] adornment. And He creates that which you do not know.
MalikHe has also created horses, mules, and donkeys for you to ride and put on show, and He has created other things which are beyond your knowledge.[8]
QXPAnd He created horses, mules, and donkeys for you to ride and for joyful decor. And He will yet create things of which (today) you have no knowledge.
Maulana AliAnd (He made) horses and mules and asses that you might ride upon them and as an ornament. And He creates what you know not.

Qaribullah (He has created for you) horses, mules, and donkeys, which you ride and as an adornment; and He creates what you do not know.

George SaleAnd He hath also created horses, and mules, and asses, that ye may ride thereon, and for an ornament unto you; and He likewise createth other things which ye know not.
JM RodwellAnd He hath given you horses, mules, and asses, that ye may ride them, and for your ornament: and things of which ye have no knowledge hath he created.

AsadAnd (it is He who creates] horses and mules and asses for you to ride, as well as for [their] beauty: and He will yet create things of which [today] you have no knowledge.'



an-Nahl 016:009

16:9 وعلى الله قصد السبيل ومنها جائر ولو شاء لهداكم اجمعين


TransliterationWaAAala Allahi qasdu alssabeeli waminha ja-irun walaw shaa lahadakum ajmaAAeena
LiteralAnd on God (is) the path's/way's objective/direction , and from it, (there is) unjust/deviation , and if He willed/wanted He would have guided you all together .

Yusuf AliAnd unto Allah leads straight the Way, but there are ways that turn aside: if Allah had willed, He could have guided all of you.
PickthalAnd Allah's is the direction of the way, and some (roads) go not straight. And had He willed He would have led you all aright.
Arberry God's it is to show the way; and some do swerve from it. If He willed, He would have guided you all together.
ShakirAnd upon Allah it rests to show the right way, and there are some deviating (ways); and if He please He would certainly guide you all aright.
SarwarSome paths lead away from God but one must follow the path that leads to God. Had God wanted, He could have guided (all to the right path).
KhalifaGOD points out the paths, including the wrong ones. If He willed, He could have guided all of you.
Hilali/KhanAnd upon Allah is the responsibility to explain the Straight Path (i.e. Islamic Monotheism for mankind i.e. to show them legal and illegal, good and evil things, etc. so, whosoever accepts the guidance, it will be for his own benefit and whosoever goes astray, it will be for his own destruction), but there are ways that turn aside (such as Paganism, Judaism, Christianity, etc.). And had He willed, He would have guided you all (mankind).
H/K/SaheehAnd upon Allah is the direction of the [right] way, and among the various paths are those deviating. And if He willed, He could have guided you all.
MalikIt is up to Allah to show the Right Way, when there exist some crooked ways. If Allah wanted He could have guided you all.[9]
QXP(You see that these animals serve you and follow their instinct.) Allah alone can show the Right Path, but there are ways that turn aside towards wrong. If Allah willed, He could have guided all of you. (He could have created you driven by your instinct without the ability to make choices).
Maulana AliAnd upon Allah it rests to show the right way, and there are some deviating (ways). And if He pleases, He would guide you all aright.
Free MindsAnd to God shall be the path, but some are mislead. And if He wished, He could have guided you all.
Qaribullah It is for Allah to show the way. Some swerve from it, but had He willed, He would have guided all of you.

George SaleIt appertaineth unto God, to instruct men in the right way; and there is who turneth aside from the same: But if He had pleased, He would certainly have directed you all.
JM RodwellOf God it is to point out "the Way." Some turn aside from it: but had He pleased, He had guided you all aright.

AsadAnd [because He is your Creator,] it rests with God alone to show you the right path:' yet there is [many a one] who swerves from it. However, had He so willed, He would have guided you all aright.



an-Nahl 016:010

16:10 هو الذي انزل من السماء ماء لكم منه شراب ومنه شجر فيه تسيمون


TransliterationHuwa allathee anzala mina alssama-i maan lakum minhu sharabun waminhu shajarun feehi tuseemoona
LiteralHe is who descended from the sky water , for you from it (is) a drink, and from it (are) trees in it you graze/put (to) pasture .

Yusuf AliIt is He who sends down rain from the sky: from it ye drink, and out of it (grows) the vegetation on which ye feed your cattle.
PickthalHe it is Who sendeth down water from the sky, whence ye have drink, and whence are trees on which ye send your beasts to pasture.
Arberry It is He who sends down to you out of heaven water of which you have to drink, and of which trees, for you to pasture your herds,
ShakirHe it is Who sends down water from the cloud for you; it gives drink, and by it (grow) the trees upon which you pasture.
SarwarIt is God who sends down water from the sky for you to drink and produces plants as pasture for your cattle.
KhalifaHe sends down from the sky water for your drink, and to grow trees for your benefit.
Hilali/KhanHe it is Who sends down water (rain) from the sky; from it you drink and from it (grows) the vegetation on which you send your cattle to pasture;
H/K/SaheehIt is He who sends down rain from the sky; from it is drink and from it is foliage in which you pasture [animals].
MalikIt is He Who sends down water from the sky, which provides drinking water for you and brings forth fodder to pasture your cattle.[10]
QXPHe it is Who sends down water from the sky, from it you drink, and out of it grows the vegetation on which you feed your cattle.
Maulana AliHe it is who sends down water from the clouds for you; it gives drink, and by it (grow) the trees on which you feed.

Qaribullah It is He who sends down water from heaven, which provides drink for you and brings forth trees on which your herds feed.

George SaleIt is He who sendeth down from heaven rain water, whereof ye have to drink, and from which plants, whereon ye feed your cattle, receive their nourishment.
JM RodwellIt is He who sendeth down rain out of Heaven: from it is your drink; and from it are the plants by which ye pasture.

AsadIt is He who sends down water from the skies; you drink thereof, and thereof [drink] the plants upon which you pasture your beasts;



an-Nahl 016:011

16:11 ينبت لكم به الزرع والزيتون والنخيل والاعناب ومن كل الثمرات ان في ذلك لاية لقوم يتفكرون


TransliterationYunbitu lakum bihi alzzarAAa waalzzaytoona waalnnakheela waal-aAAnaba wamin kulli alththamarati inna fee thalika laayatan liqawmin yatafakkaroona
LiteralHe sprouts/grows for you with it the plants/crops and the olives and the palm trees and the grapes, and from all the fruits, that in that (is) a sign/evidence (E) to a nation thinking.

Yusuf AliWith it He produces for you corn, olives, date-palms, grapes and every kind of fruit: verily in this is a sign for those who give thought.
PickthalTherewith He causeth crops to grow for you, and the olive and the date-palm and grapes and all kinds of fruit. Lo! herein is indeed a portent for people who reflect.
Arberry and thereby He brings forth for you crops, and olives, and palms, and vines, and all manner of fruit. Surely in that is a sign for a people who reflect.
ShakirHe causes to grow for you thereby herbage, and the olives, and the palm trees, and the grapes, and of all the fruits; most surely there is a sign in this for a people who reflect.
Sarwar(With this water) He causes corn, olives, palm-trees, vines, and all kinds of fruits to grow. In this there is evidence (of the existence of God) for the people of understanding.
KhalifaWith it, He grows for you crops, olives, date palms, grapes, and all kinds of fruits. This is (sufficient) proof for people who think.
Hilali/KhanWith it He causes to grow for you the crops, the olives, the date-palms, the grapes, and every kind of fruit. Verily! In this is indeed an evident proof and a manifest sign for people who give thought.
H/K/SaheehHe causes to grow for you thereby the crops, olives, palm trees, grapevines, and from all the fruits. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.
MalikWith it He grows for you crops, olives, date-palms, grapes, and every kind of fruit: surely there is a great sign in this for those who think.[11]
QXPTherewith He causes crops to grow for you, corn, olives, date palms, grapes, vineyards, and all kinds of fruit. This is indeed a convincing sign for those who reflect on the Universal order.
Maulana AliHe causes to grow for you thereby herbage, and the olives, and the date-palms, and the grapes, and all the fruits. Surely there is a sign in this for a people who reflect.

16:12 وسخر لكم الليل والنهار والشمس والقمر والنجوم مسخرات بامره ان في ذلك لايات لقوم يعقلون


TransliterationWasakhkhara lakumu allayla waalnnahara waalshshamsa waalqamara waalnnujoomu musakhkharatun bi-amrihi inna fee thalika laayatin liqawmin yaAAqiloona
LiteralAnd He manipulated/subjugated for you, the night , and the daytime and the sun , and the moon , and the stars/planets (are) manipulated/subjugated with His order/command, that in that (are) signs/evidences (E) , to a nation reasoning/understanding.

Yusuf AliHe has made subject to you the Night and the Day; the sun and the moon; and the stars are in subjection by His Command: verily in this are Signs for men who are wise.
PickthalAnd He hath constrained the night and the day and the sun and the moon to be of service unto you, and the stars are made subservient by His command. Lo! herein indeed are portents for people who have sense.

an-Nahl 016:013

16:13 وماذرا لكم في الارض مختلفا الوانه ان في ذلك لاية لقوم يذكرون


TransliterationWama tharaa lakum fee al-ardi mukhtalifan alwanuhu inna fee thalika laayatan liqawmin yaththakkaroona
LiteralAnd what He created/seeded for you in the earth its colours (are) different, that in that (is) an evidence/sign (E) to a nation mentioning/remembering .

Yusuf AliAnd the things on this earth which He has multiplied in varying colours (and qualities): verily in this is a sign for men who celebrate the praises of Allah (in gratitude).
PickthalAnd whatsoever He hath created for you in the earth of divers hues, lo! therein is indeed a portent for people who take heed.
Arberry And that which He has multiplied for you in the earth of diverse hues. Surely in that is a sign for a people who remember.
ShakirAnd what He has created in the earth of varied hues most surely there is a sign in this for a people who are mindful.
SarwarAll that He has created for you on the earth are of different colors. In this there is evidence of the Truth for the people who take heed.
KhalifaAnd (He created) for you on earth things of various colors. This is a (sufficient) proof for people who take heed.
Hilali/KhanAnd whatsoever He has created for you on this earth of varying colours (and qualities from vegetation and fruits, etc. (botanical life) and from animal (zoological life)). Verily! In this is a sign for people who remember.
H/K/SaheehAnd [He has subjected] whatever He multiplied for you on the earth of varying colors. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who remember.
MalikIn the Earth He has created things of different colors: surely there is a sign in this for those who want to learn a lesson.[13]
QXPAnd all that He has created for you in the earth is of diverse colors and qualities. Therein is indeed a message for those who read the "Book of Nature".
Maulana AliAnd what He has created for you in the earth is of varied hues. Surely there is a sign in this for a people who are mindful.
Free MindsAnd what He has placed for you on Earth in various colors. In that are signs for a people who remember.
Qaribullah And what He has multiplied for you in the earth is of various hues; surely, in that there is a sign for a nation who remember.

George SaleAnd He hath also given you dominion over whatever He hath created for you in the earth, distinguished by its different colour. Surely herein is a sign unto people who reflect.
JM RodwellAnd all of varied hues that He hath created for you over the earth: verily, in this are signs for those who remember.

AsadAnd all the [beauty of] many hues-which He has created for you on earth: in this, behold, there is a message for people who (are willing to] take it to heart!



an-Nahl 016:014

16:14 وهو الذي سخر البحر لتاكلوا منه لحما طريا وتستخرجوا منه حلية تلبسونها وترى الفلك مواخر فيه ولتبتغوا من فضله ولعلكم تشكرون


TransliterationWahuwa allathee sakhkhara albahra lita/kuloo minhu lahman tariyyan watastakhrijoo minhu hilyatan talbasoonaha watara alfulka mawakhira feehi walitabtaghoo min fadlihi walaAAallakum tashkuroona
LiteralAnd He is who manipulated/subjugated the sea/ocean to eat from it soft/tender meat , and you bring out from it a jewel/ornament you wear/dress it, and you see the ships audibly cutting/shearing in it, and to wish/desire from His grace/favour, and maybe/perhaps you thank/be grateful.

Yusuf AliIt is He Who has made the sea subject, that ye may eat thereof flesh that is fresh and tender, and that ye may extract therefrom ornaments to wear; and thou seest the ships therein that plough the waves, that ye may seek (thus) of the bounty of Allah and that ye may be grateful.
PickthalAnd He it is Who hath constrained the sea to be of service that ye eat fresh meat from thence, and bring forth from thence ornaments which ye wear. And thou seest the ships ploughing it that ye (mankind) may seek of His bounty and that haply ye may give thanks.

SarwarIt is God who put the oceans at your disposal so that you could find therein fresh fish for food and ornaments with which to deck yourselves with. You will find ships that sail for you so that you may travel in search of the bounties of God and give Him thanks.
KhalifaAnd He committed the sea to serve you; you eat from it tender meat, and extract jewelry which you wear. And you see the ships roaming it for your commercial benefits, as you seek His bounties, that you may be appreciative.
Hilali/KhanAnd He it is Who has subjected the sea (to you), that you eat thereof fresh tender meat (i.e. fish), and that you bring forth out of it ornaments to wear. And you see the ships ploughing through it, that you may seek (thus) of His Bounty (by transporting the goods from place to place) and that you may be grateful.
H/K/SaheehAnd it is He who subjected the sea for you to eat from it tender meat and to extract from it ornaments which you wear. And you see the ships plowing through it, and [He subjected it] that you may seek of His bounty; and perhaps you will be grateful.
MalikIt is He Who has subjected the sea to your service, that you may eat fresh meat therefrom and that you may bring out of it ornaments to wear; and you see that ships plough their course through it. He has done all this so that you may seek His bounty and so that you may pay thanks to Him.[14]
QXPAnd He it is Who has made the sea subservient. You eat from it tender fresh meat and take from it gems which you may wear. And on that very sea you see the ships roaming through the waves so that you might seek of His bounty and be appreciative.
Maulana AliAnd He it is Who has made the sea subservient that you may eat fresh flesh from it and bring forth from it ornaments which you wear. And thou seest the ships cleaving through it, so that you seek of His bounty and that you may give thanks.

16:15 والقى في الارض رواسى ان تميد بكم وانهارا وسبلا لعلكم تهتدون


TransliterationWaalqa fee al-ardi rawasiya an tameeda bikum waanharan wasubulan laAAallakum tahtadoona
LiteralAnd He threw in the earth/Planet Earth anchors/mountains that (E) it sways and leans/moves and unsettles with you, and rivers/waterways and ways/paths , maybe/perhaps you be guided.

Yusuf AliAnd He has set up on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you; and rivers and roads; that ye may guide yourselves;
PickthalAnd He hath cast into the earth firm hills that it quake not with you, and streams and roads that ye may find a way.
Arberry And He cast on the earth firm mountains, lest it shake with you, and rivers and ways; so haply you will be guided;
ShakirAnd He has cast great mountains in the earth lest it might be convulsed with you, and rivers and roads that you may go aright,
SarwarGod has fixed the mountains on earth lest you should be hurled away when it quakes. Therein He has also made rivers and roads so that you will find your way.
KhalifaAnd He placed stabilizers (mountains) on earth, lest it tumbles with you, as well as rivers and roads, that you may be guided.
Hilali/KhanAnd He has affixed into the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you, and rivers and roads, that you may guide yourselves.
H/K/SaheehAnd He has cast into the earth firmly set mountains, lest it shift with you, and [made] rivers and roads, that you may be guided,
MalikHe has set mountains on the earth - lest it should move away with you. He also made rivers and roads so that you may find your way;[15]
QXPAnd He has placed firm mountains on earth, lest it sway with you, and rivers and paths, so that you may find your way. (21:31), (31:10). (Mountains are the most vivid evidence of the geological history of the earth. With the earth's interior still being almost a molten fluid, the earth crust cooled off becoming hard and mountains came into being like pegs as the crest shrank (78:7)).
Maulana AliAnd He has cast firm mountains in the earth lest it quake with you, and rivers and roads that you may go aright,
Free MindsAnd He has cast into the Earth stabilizers so that it does not sway with you, and rivers, and paths, perhaps you will be guided.
Qaribullah He set firm mountains upon the earth lest it should shake with you; and rivers, and roads, in order that you are guided.

an-Nahl 016:016

16:16 وعلامات وبالنجم هم يهتدون


TransliterationWaAAalamatin wabialnnajmi hum yahtadoona
LiteralAnd signs/identification marks, and with the star/planets, they be guided.

Yusuf AliAnd marks and sign-posts; and by the stars (men) guide themselves.

Qaribullah And waymarks; and by the star they are guided.

George SaleAnd He hath likewise ordained marks whereby men may know their way; and they are directed by the stars.

Asadas well as [various other] means of orientation: for [it is] by the stars that men find their way. '



an-Nahl 016:017

16:17 افمن يخلق كمن لايخلق افلا تذكرون


TransliterationAfaman yakhluqu kaman la yakhluqu afala tathakkaroona
LiteralIs who creates as/like who does not create, so do you not mention/remember ?

Yusuf AliIs then He Who creates like one that creates not? Will ye not receive admonition?
PickthalIs He then Who createth as him who createth not? Will ye not then remember?
Arberry Is He who creates as he who does not create? Will you not remember?
ShakirIs He then Who creates like him who does not create? Do you not then mind?

Maulana AliIs He then Who creates like him who creates not? Do you not then mind?

Qaribullah Is He who creates as he who does not create? Will you not remember?

George SaleShall God therefore who createth, be as he who createth not? Do ye not therefore consider?

AsadIS, THEN, HE who creates comparable to any [being] that cannot create? Will you not, then, bethink yourselves?



an-Nahl 016:018

16:18 وان تعدوا نعمة الله لاتحصوها ان الله لغفور رحيم


TransliterationWa-in taAAuddoo niAAmata Allahi la tuhsooha inna Allaha laghafoorun raheemun
LiteralAnd if you count God's blessing/goodness you do not compute it , that God (is) forgiving (E), merciful.

Yusuf AliIf ye would count up the favours of Allah, never would ye be able to number them: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
PickthalAnd if ye would count the favour of Allah ye cannot reckon it. Lo! Allah is indeed Forgiving, Merciful.
Arberry If you count God's blessing, you will never number it; surely God is All-forgiving, All-compassionate.
ShakirAnd if you would count Allah's favors, you will not be able to number them; most surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
SarwarEven if you wanted to count up all of God's blessings, you would not be able to. God is All-forgiving and All-merciful.
KhalifaIf you count GOD's blessings, you cannot possibly encompass them. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.
Hilali/KhanAnd if you would count the graces of Allah, never could you be able to count them. Truly! Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
H/K/SaheehAnd if you should count the favors of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
MalikIf you want to count the favors of Allah, you will never be able to number them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful,[18]
QXPIf you count Allah's Universal blessings, you cannot possibly reckon them. Allah is indeed Forgiving, Merciful. (His blessings encompass all Universe. He is the Absolver of imperfections. And He bestows means of physical and mental protection of humans as well as their individual and collective nourishment).
Maulana AliAnd if you would count Allah’s favours, you would not be able to number them. Surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
Free MindsAnd if you count the blessings of God you will not be able to fathom them. God is Forgiving, Merciful.
Qaribullah If you count the favors of Allah, you could not number them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and the Most Merciful.

George SaleIf ye attempt to reckon up the favours of God, ye shall not be able to compute their number: God is surely gracious, and merciful;
JM RodwellAnd if ye would reckon up the favours of God, ye could not count them. Aye! God is right Gracious, Merciful!

AsadFor, should you try to count God's blessings, you could never compute them! Behold, God is indeed much-forgiving, a dispenser of grace;



an-Nahl 016:019

16:19 والله يعلم ماتسرون وماتعلنون


TransliterationWaAllahu yaAAlamu ma tusirroona wama tuAAlinoona
LiteralAnd God knows what you keep secret and what you publicize/announce .

Yusuf AliAnd Allah doth know what ye conceal, and what ye reveal.
PickthalAnd Allah knoweth that which ye keep hidden and that which ye proclaim.
Arberry And God knows what you keep secret and what you publish.
ShakirAnd Allah knows what you conceal and what you do openly.
SarwarGod knows all that you conceal or reveal.
KhalifaAnd GOD knows whatever you conceal and whatever you declare.

an-Nahl 016:020

16:20 والذين يدعون من دون الله لايخلقون شيئا وهم يخلقون


TransliterationWaallatheena yadAAoona min dooni Allahi la yakhluqoona shay-an wahum yukhlaqoona
LiteralAnd those whom they call from other than God, they do not create a thing, and they, they are being created.

Yusuf AliThose whom they invoke besides Allah create nothing and are themselves created.

16:21 اموات غير احياء ومايشعرون ايان يبعثون

LiteralDeads other than alive, and they do not feel/know/sense when they are being sent/resurrected/revived.

Yusuf Ali(They are things) dead, lifeless: nor do they know when they will be raised up.
Pickthal(They are) dead, not living. And they know not when they will be raised.
Arberry dead, not alive; and are not aware when they shall be raised.
ShakirDead (are they), not living, and they know not when they shall be raised.

QXP(Powerless are the so-called saints, mystics and monks, whom you make holier and holier with the passage of time.) They are dead, disintegrated bodies, not living. They are not even aware when they will be raised. (And you still call upon them for help!)
Maulana AliDead (are they), not living. And they know not when they will be raised.

Qaribullah They are dead, not living; and they do not know when they will be raised (to life).

an-Nahl 016:022

16:22 الهكم اله واحد فالذين لايؤمنون بالاخرة قلوبهم منكرة وهم مستكبرون


TransliterationIlahukum ilahun wahidun faallatheena la yu/minoona bial-akhirati quloobuhum munkiratun wahum mustakbiroona
LiteralYour God (is) one God, so those who do not believe with the end (other life), their hearts/minds (are) defiant of God and His orders/obscene , and they are arrogant.

Yusuf AliYour Allah is one Allah: as to those who believe not in the Hereafter, their hearts refuse to know, and they are arrogant.
PickthalYour Allah is One Allah. But as for those who believe not in the Hereafter their hearts refuse to know, for they are proud.
Arberry Your God is One God. And they who believe not in the world to come, their hearts deny, and they have waxed proud.
ShakirYour Allah is one Allah; so (as for) those who do not believe m the hereafter, their hearts are ignorant and they are proud.
SarwarYour Lord is only One. The hearts of those who do not believe in the life hereafter dislike (the truth). They are puffed up with pride.
KhalifaYour god is one god. As for those who do not believe in the Hereafter, their hearts are denying, and they are arrogant.
Hilali/KhanYour Ilah (God) is One Ilah (God Allah, none has the right to be worshipped but He). But for those who believe not in the Hereafter, their hearts deny (the faith in the Oneness of Allah), and they are proud.
H/K/SaheehYour god is one God. But those who do not believe in the Hereafter their hearts are disapproving, and they are arrogant.
MalikYour God is One God; as for those who do not believe in the hereafter, they have faithless hearts and are puffed up with arrogance.[22]
QXPYour God is One God. Those who call upon others are practical deniers of the life to come, since they ignore the tough accountability that awaits them. They are too proud to submit to the Supreme Authority.

16:23 لاجرم ان الله يعلم مايسرون ومايعلنون انه لايحب المستكبرين


TransliterationLa jarama anna Allaha yaAAlamu ma yusirroona wama yuAAlinoona innahu la yuhibbu almustakbireena
LiteralUndoutably/surely that God knows what they keep secret and what they publicize/announce , that He does not love/like the arrogant.

Yusuf AliUndoubtedly Allah doth know what they conceal, and what they reveal: verily He loveth not the arrogant.
PickthalAssuredly Allah knoweth that which they keep hidden and that which they proclaim. Lo! He loveth not the proud.
Arberry Without a doubt God knows what they keep secret and what they publish; He loves not those that wax proud.

LiteralAnd if (it) was said to them: "What (did) your Lord descend?" They said: "The firsts'/beginners' myths/baseless stories ."

Yusuf AliWhen it is said to them, "What is it that your Lord has revealed?" they say, "Tales of the ancients!"
PickthalAnd when it is said unto them: What hath your Lord revealed? they say: (Mere) fables of the men of old,
Arberry And when it is said to them, 'What has your Lord sent down?' they say, 'Fairy-tales of the ancients.'

QXPAnd when it is said to them, "What has your Lord revealed?" They say, "Fables of ancient times!" (When the Qur'an is presented to them, their clergy claim that its Verses apply not to them, but only to Jews and Christians and the idolaters of Arabia).

16:25 ليحملوا اوزارهم كاملة يوم القيامة ومن اوزار الذين يضلونهم بغير علم الا ساء مايزرون


TransliterationLiyahmiloo awzarahum kamilatan yawma alqiyamati wamin awzari allatheena yudilloonahum bighayri AAilmin ala saa ma yaziroona
LiteralTo carry/burden their sins/burdens complete (on) the Resurrection Day, and from the sins/burdens (of) those who they misguide them without knowledge. Is it not bad/evil/harmful what they sin/carry/bear ?

Yusuf AliLet them bear, on the Day of Judgment, their own burdens in full, and also (something) of the burdens of those without knowledge, whom they misled. Alas, how grievous the burdens they will bear!

16:26 قد مكر الذين من قبلهم فاتى الله بنيانهم من القواعد فخر عليهم السقف من فوقهم واتاهم العذاب من حيث لايشعرون


TransliterationQad makara allatheena min qablihim faata Allahu bunyanahum mina alqawaAAidi fakharra AAalayhimu alssaqfu min fawqihim waatahumu alAAathabu min haythu la yashAAuroona
LiteralThose from before them had cheated/deceived/schemed, so God came (and) destroyed their buildings/structures from the foundations/bases, so the roof/ceiling fell down on them from above them, and the torture came to them from where/when they do not feel/know/sense.

Yusuf AliThose before them did also plot (against Allah's Way): but Allah took their structures from their foundations, and the roof fell down on them from above; and the Wrath seized them from directions they did not perceive.

KhalifaOthers like them have schemed in the past, and consequently, GOD destroyed their building at the foundation, causing the roof to fall on them. The retribution struck them when they least expected.

TransliterationThumma yawma alqiyamati yukhzeehim wayaqoolu ayna shuraka-iya allatheena kuntum tushaqqoona feehim qala allatheena ootoo alAAilma inna alkhizya alyawma waalssoo-a AAala alkafireena
LiteralThen (on) the Resurrection Day He shames/scandalizes/disgraces them, and he says: "Where (are) my partners those who you were making animosity/revolting/disobe ying in (because of) them?" Those who were given the knowledge said: "That the shame/scandal/disgrace, today , and the bad/evil/harm (is) on the disbelievers."

Yusuf AliThen, on the Day of Judgment, He will cover them with shame, and say: "Where are My 'partners' concerning whom ye used to dispute (with the godly)?" Those endued with knowledge will say: "This Day, indeed, are the Unbelievers covered with shame and misery,-
